I brought mine last month. I notice it didn't ring with the ring bell when I tested to see if it was connected correctly. The color caught my eye instead of the white it wasn't too expensive a reasonable price

check to make sure that the switch wires aren't interfering with the chime mechanism. also, make sure that you have enough voltage from your transformer. i think that it should be 18 to 23 VAC.

Found this solution at the other home improvement site, for a VERY similar product (who we all wired it right and still on got Dong).....the simple solution (and seems happen when you install if horizontally as see in the product pic)...just stretch out the spring a little on the right side striker! Duh, so simple in retrospect. Just pull off the top metal bar and the striker just pulls right out. It only needs and 1/8 or so more length.

it's a doorbell and it works fine
I bought this chime as a straight out replacement for our electronic chime that began to malfunction. The electronic chime was more expensive but did not last more than a few years, so decided to go back to the old "ding-dong" type. Replacement was relatively easy and straightforward. I just need to the area taken up by the old larger chime. The chime works fine; ding-dong for the front door and ding for the back door. Two minor issues: As one reviewer wrote, the cover only loosely fastens to the mounting plate - but (in my case) it does fasten well enough. Also, the wall anchors supplied were too large for the screws so they would spin and not seat firmly. Had to use the old toothpick trick to get some grip in there. Overall - it's a doorbell and it works fine.

This doorbell (chime) is a decent item. It's inexpensive, looks pretty good and functions well. First, the cover ("brushed nickel") is plastic-know that up front. Doesn't look bad but doesn't have the distinctive metal finish to it that a truly metallic cover might. Second, it's a mechanical door bell. I like mechanical door bells. They don't sound 'tinny' and are not pretentious like some electronic door bells. Next, this door bell can handle two door bell buttons (presumably front and side/back doors) and you can wire it with the traditional "ding-dong" or just a "ding". Wiring is easy, install is easy and, though one reviewer had to make cuts to accommodate his Ring doorbell module, I did not (see picture). The Ring doorbell module I had had an adhesive pad on it and stuck to the housing with no problems or obstructions. All in all - I like it.

We bought this house in Aug 2017. The prior owner dry walled over the opening for the previous door bell chime. So i purchased the cheaper version of this chime which had digital recordings which didn't sound too good. So i got this new one and installed it. Sorting the wiring out on the new one was a little different then the smaller digital one. But using a low voltage tester i identified all the wires, wired it up and works like a charm. Has two physical metal bars which are struck with little hammers. Sounds like old school door bell now!

My main issue with this doorbell is that the cover doesn't securely fasten to the mounting plate on the wall. I had to use gorilla tape to keep the cover on, so it doesn't fall off with normal house vibrations. The cover is supposed to snap on to the plate, but the fit is far from perfect. My other issues were mostly because I had to modify the housing so I could hide the Ring adapter for our front doorbell. That is pretty standard for any replacement doorbell. The finish on the doorbell is nice, but if you want a sturdy replacement, I would look for something else.

We wanted to replace the off-white door chimes that the builder put in our foyer and since we had recently been replacing all the brass in our house with nickel, this was the perfect choice. At less than $20 this is a great bargain. I noticed that the chimes unit itself was nearly identical to the one that I uninstalled, so this unit has a "builder's" quality to it. The outside cover I believe is spray-painted and the cover on the unit we received has a noticeable scuff mark on it (see photo). I will eventually need to repaint it but I just didn't happen to have any nickel looking paint on hand. Being a low-voltage device, you need to install this in conjunction with a 16 volt transformer which converts your home's 120vac to 16vac. The chimes can be connected to two doorbells; one (with a "ding-dong" chime) for the front door, and the second one (with a single "ding" chime) for the back door. Of course, you can wire a single doorbell if you like. This chime took a grand total of 10 minutes to install including the time needed to remove the old chimes. All in all I am pleased with this but will be more pleased once I repaint it.
