BRK has been the top choice of contractors in the commercial market for over 50 years. Marketed to builders, electrical contractors serving single family, multifamily, hotel/motel, RV and manufactured homes channels. The contractor-friendly product and packaging design sets the professional standard. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by 50% and that's important because a home structure fire was reported every 86 seconds. Whereas carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are like the flu and you might not even know you're in danger. The SC9120B hardwire alarm comes with 2-in-1 protection to detect CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air, as well as first signs of a potential fire. This alarm works exceptionally well by using ionization sensor technology to detect fast flaming fires that spread quickly. Sources of these fires include cooktop grease or wastebasket fires. It also includes battery backup for power outages and features a Test/Silence button to check if the alarm is functioning properly as well as silence unwanted or nuisance alarms. This BRK SC9120B Hardwire Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm is an essential product in protecting those who matter most.

As stated here, First Alert recognized the 3 beeps as a malfunction within the unit. my unit was under warranty from 2012. They did go ahead and replace the unit free of charge, no shipping fee.

Hardwired Interconnected Smoke and CO Alarm with Battery Backup is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 331.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hardwire's types malfunction 1: just page back to the picture of the device and you can see the battery door trapping the battery (this is a real design problem) replacing the battery is a major problem. 2: The hardwired BRK devices made in Mexico DO NOT have enough sine noise filters. In the instructions they point this out. (to late for you if you have the instructions in your hands). 3: Of 170 units Ive installed My alarm-age rate has tripled. some due to "tenant goofs" but mostly due to blinky CFL bulbs, noisy transformers, Tenant mancave beer signs. half worn light switches. And last but not least Medically Implanted pace makers trigger this device. I have to stop and drop everything to go and MANUALLY RELATCH THE BRKS so they continue functioning. These devices should not GO OFF with any of these electrically noisy products. These devices with high malfunction rates should be pulled from the market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Atleast the hardwired types need to be pulled" If We are to exit the building every-time the BRK goes off we might as well live outside. Mr Maintenance of 170 unit rentals

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shelf Life for SC9120B First Alert Combo Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Be aware and forewarned when purchasing this product of the manufacture date on the back of the alarm unit. Customer service at First Alert (800-323-9005) tells me that there is a shelf life of only 5 years on units manufactured before May 2011. We have apartment buildings and In January 2016, we purchased eight units from Home Depot for replacement on units that were starting to chirp. The units we purchased had a stamped manufacturing date of April 25, 2011. Here it is August 2016 and we are having to replace all the units we just recently replaced as all the new units started chirping and will not cease chirping even after replacing with new batteries, twice (thinking perhaps the batteries were defective). The batteries are fine. It is the units that are at the end of their shelf life so I am told by customer service at First Alert; and unless I can produce the receipt, First Alert customer service cannot/will not assist me. 2015 taxes were filed and receipts are with accountant. I feel that First Alert should have not only the manufacture date on the back, BUT, should also have the expiration date stamped alongside. Had we known these units have a shelf life/expiration dates, we would not be buying in bulk and replacing expired units with more expired (but new) units. I am also disappointed that the big box stores are selling expired merchandise that should be pulled off the shelves!!!

We only needed to replace the alarm units, the part that screeches, not our hard-wired bases. These fit perfectly. Easy plug-in design. We’re grateful BRK maintained their design so we didn’t have to put in new bases.
