Q:I have a flat roof that was originally coated with Henry 587 Dura-bright and then re-coated years later with 287 Solar Flex. I'm getting ready to re-coat the entire roof again. Can I use this Henry 869 over the top of the old coats of 587 and 287?

Great Product compared to others
1st time I purchased a few buckets of 869, Sales Rep at store helped me with the purchase, great for ponding water which is what I had as an issue. Must Mix since the Aluminum sits on bottom of bucket. Much more brighter than Apoc which we used before, more thicker than Apoc which covers less but looks better!

BRWL01, we are sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with our Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum roof coating. Henry 869 is an outstanding premium, highly reflective, waterproof roof coating that will last for 12 year. However, just like you never apply a solvent based paint over an acrylic, the same rule applies here. Henry 869 has aggressive solvents and should only be used on surfaces like roofs that have been previously coated with asphalt emulsion, or aluminum coatings, metal roofs or or Modified Bitumen roofs.

This product worked perfectly for me. I had a leaking...
This product worked perfectly for me. I had a leaking rubber roof and this was my last option. I applied around the seams roof and areas that most likely leaks and it worked. It's a little bit expensive but it works.

Roof Coating Really Does Reflect the Heat
I applied this product over a new bituminous rubber roof I had done last August, and it went on fairly easily but the coverage was less than listed so I used about 13 gallons on about 780 SF of roof with short parapets. Coating the edges, parapets and around skylights was the most time consuming. Took me about 3 hours overall.
The cost is not cheap, but I could feel difference on inside next day. Be sure to wear strong strong sunglasses when coating as the reflection will blind you.

PhillyRicardo-Actually, according to it's posted coverage rate of '100 sq ft per 1.5-2 gal'; 13 gallons is about right. If you take the mid-point of "1.5-2 gallons", 1.75 gallons and multiply it out; it comes to 13.65 gallons. Got The Job Done
They make the same product for a 7yr warranty, but if you do the math on product costs, this 12yr coating costs less per warranty year and why I chose this more expensive 12yr coating.
Quality is fair (hence, my rating). I found cured color differences (depends on how sunlight is reflecting and what time of day) between the 5 - 5gal buckets I applied. Ambient temp, mixing and application method were all very consistent while power rolling this product on my metal roof using my airless paint sprayer. Maybe the color difference between buckets will fade and blend closer together as time goes on, hopefully. If it were a flat roof I wouldn't care about color being inconsistent, but this is a sloped roof that I visually see every day and it looks obvious -_-
Product has a strong roof tar odor, so I suggest using a respirator while applying. First 5gal bucket I didn't and became dizzy/headache. Remaining 4gal used a respirator and I was fine.
Once applied and cured for many, many...many days, do not walk on roof!! No matter how careful you are with your footing, you will leave dark marks (tarrish dark brown product underneath aluminum top coat). You'll find yourself re-coating those areas! Coating is and stays soft; more so if on a warm/hot day.
Don't know how Henry can call this product 'rubberized' on bucket when really it's Henrys typical roof tar product with aluminum mixed in, hence the strong odor while applying and curing, plus how it stays soft after cured.
All in all, this product seemed to have done the job. Temperature is cooler underneath roof than before, which is a plus. Time will tell how well it holds up to their stated 12 year warranty. Believe it or not I'm optimistic it will, being Henry does make good roof tar-based products.

Great roof coating
The elastomeric roof coating was easy to apply with an 18 inch roller. It went on smoothly and with a minimum of effort. The result looks very good and is a large improvement. I do not anticipate any spreading of rusted spots.
