What is the recommended underlayment if using the click/lock on a concrete basement floor? Also....is the top veneer thicker in the 1/2 inch model vs the 3/8 inch model?
Asked by: theotherguy
Over concrete a 6 mil polyethylene sheeting should be used. The 1/2'' flooring has a thicker wear layer.

I was replacing carpet and was installing this product on concrete (used padded underlayment). If you're looking for glossy flooring, this is definitely not it. It is a satin finish at best. The oak grain is very prominent. I purchased 19 boxes, but only used 18 for my two bedrooms and a connecting hallway. I have never installed wood floors before, but found installation of this product was very easy (with the exception of installing at the undercut doorframes. That is very tricky. Out of the 18 boxes that I used, I only had two boards that where "rejects". Because I had numerous boxes being used, I had plenty of variances of lengths. This click and lock product is very DIY friendly, but I would advise watching instructional videos online if this is your first time installing. My floors look beautiful. My photos were taken before reinstalling my baseboard. Would I use this product again? Yes. I will probably be putting it in my living room and master bedroom. If I don't use this finish, I will use another Heritage Mill product because I liked their click and lock system.

Have installed several floating engineered wood floors from other manufacturers. The finishes on those floors were great and they 'snapped' together easily for a tight, professional look. However, the Heritage Mill product was a nightmare. What was most troublesome was that all the planks were not true, meaning you could 'lock' one end to the adjacent already installed plank with a clean, tight fit, but the other end would not lock because the plank was off, consequently leaving a gap between planks at one end. After encountering this problem several times and then cutting and gluing adjacent planks to force them to fit, I quit and returned the product for flooring by a different manufacturer. Would not recommend Heritage Mill products.

I ordered it and was told it would be delivered in about a week. We live only one state away from the manufacturer but were still very pleased that we received it in only 2 days! The quality was good and the boxes include varied grain and board sizes (although most boards were either long or short, not a lot of medium). The color was consistent throughout the 6 boxes we ordered. I helped my husband install it...my husband is fairly knowledgeable, but we are not even close to being experts. We followed the instructions and were able to install it fairly quickly. We chose this for our daughter's bedroom, and we've only had it for about 2 weeks so I can't speak to the durability of the product. But if it wears as good as it looks we are thinking of using it throughout the house!

I was worried as I had purchased some 6 months earlier than the last batch. One minor annoyance was the number of short pieces in several boxes was high. I had read reviews of this and did buy extra boxes to address this and they were needed.
