Questions & Answers

Is the pattern of the Burnished Straw Plank Cork planks printed on or are they the natural bark grain?

Asked by: Gman
Definitely natural bark grain and texture.

can cork flooring be used in a bathroom?

Asked by: Jessie
The cork itself handles moisture well, but I would only install it if I thought I could prevent moisture from getting under the flooring and causing mold or rot. With a good toilet seal, good bathroom ventilation, and an eye toward leaving as much water as possible in the tub or shower, I'd say yes.

Can this cork flooring be put down over an existing linoleum kitchen floor and if so should I put down barrier sheet over linoleum?

Asked by: Kat56
Probably, but consult the flooring manufacturer to be sure, and follow any recommendations they may have. When in doubt, ALWAYS check first.

vapor barrier really needed?

I plan to replace family room carpet with this cork flooring. Currently pad and carpet over slab, no vapor barrier. No issues with moisture, floor is fine. Do I really need vapor barrier as recommended under this flooring?
Asked by: stevepet
Yes, a minimum 6 milimeter polyethylene sheeting is required under all floors being installed over concrete slabs. Carpet/pad will let vapor pass through freely; hardwood and cork floors will hold moisture eminating from the slab, resulting in swelling, buckling, etc. Failure to install a proper vapor barrier will void warranty coverage on the product.

Slate Plank 13/32 in. Thick x 5-1/2 in. Wide x 36 in. Length Cork Flooring (10.92 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 211.

The finish on these cork planks is so thin and delicate that even the slightest scratch or scrape mars the surface leaving the light underlay exposed. The description of the product says that no additional sealing is required. It probably isn't needed if you're happy with ugly gouges all over the floor. We will be replacing numerous panels and then applying a polyurethane sealant. The floor didn't even last a week. We are very unhappy with this product and are surprised that Home Depot would carry a product of such low quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, nice looking floor I was skeptical about cork flooring, but my wife talked me into it. I must say, now that its installed, I love the result! I installed this floor in a large great room -- about 450 square feet. The installation was easy. The product has a built-in cork underlay, so no additional foam underlay was needed. which saved time. The planks seemed lighter weight than some other laminate floors I've installed, it was easy to cut, and easy to click together. The floor looks beautiful. It looks like a rich, exotic wood floor, yet it is VERY comfortable to walk on, and easy to keep clean, too !

The floor help up beautifully. I did not stress about it one bit and when I moved out the floors looked great even with the beating they took. I purchased it for my second floor (bedrooms) at the new house and the floor is still beautiful and feels great on your feet; HOWEVER, it seems like they scratch so easily! so, beautiful but I'd certainly be careful where you install it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy installation no gluing, also only one to have... easy installation no gluing, also only one to have sealant on it and it's guaranteed for 30 years, looks great. will fade with UV light and it happens fast so can't worry about that too much or put in room without much light. some worry with it's softness and marks from heavy furniture so not sure for future but the ease of installation and overall look and the fact that it acts as a sound barrier and for comfort i decided to go for it and see what happens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We needed to replace our old vinyl... We needed to replace our old vinyl flooring in our kitchen. We have real medium colored oak cabinets and black appliances so a dark flooring would not look good with the appliances and oak flooring looked too much like the cabinets, so we decided to go with this Cork Flooring and it worked quite well. It's snap lock so its easy to install and cut as needed...we are happy with this floor, it's hard but not as hard as a true hardwood, has a little give/cushion to it when you walk across it., not much just a little. Would not hesitate to install this again...although I'd recommend that you put a sealer on after install as right out of the box the cork is porous and can be damaged with water. However, once it is sealed it is quite durable and spills wipe up with no worries. Plus termites hate cork so they'll never eat this floor. : )

The click and lock didn't click and lock correctly as planned, so we had to glue down the flooring. Kind of defeats the purpose of a click and lock, but overall it turned out okay and looks and feels nice on the feet. Unless you have a totally even subfloor, the click and lock mechanism can be problematic. I also like the renewable aspect of this flooring.

This was not a not a minor lot variation. Was trying to match an existing installation of the same product. Tried to contact manufacturer to see if color formulation was changed but got no response. Home Depot professional in flooring was totally useless. See photo for color variation. Plank on the right was from previous installation and is a close match to the stock photo. The plank on the left is what was delivered (and it was labeled as Burnished Straw, so not a case of wrong product being sent).

I fell in love with cork flooring when I stayed at a B&B in Oregon, so when I saw a pallet of it at Home Depot I knew I had to get it for my office. It was easy to install once we learned each piece needed an extra tap to seed in. It looks great and is so much quieter than the laminate I have in other areas of the house.
