What kind of batteries does it take? Is it possible to easily convert it into a power cord instead?

Asked by: Matt
Uses AA batteries but can be swapped/modified for a power supply of equal voltage.

Does this easily disassemble and fit into a (relatively) small box for storage?
Asked by: Mike
Not really, no. The legs are somewhat slender, but quite long, and the head and body are bulky. So you can (and I have personally done this) split the pieces into 2 boxes, a long narrower one for the legs, and a large cube for the head and body, but it's not much more compact than the huge box it come in. When we say Gargantuan we really mean it!

Looking forward to displaying it in front of my house. So, I picked this up at Home Depot. The box was pretty huge, same dimensions as the skeletal T-Rex box with a double cardboard box on the inside. The difference between the T-Rex box and this one is that this box is completely and snugly packed full of appendages/carapace/head. I could not fit the box in my car so I took everything out of the box in the parking lot-no parts by themselves were really huge. The biggest piece was the front section of the head and that could easily sit in the front passenger seat of any car (everything else went into the trunk). I did get some disapproving stares from people in the parking lot (maybe they don't like spiders). The empty cardboard packing box itself was the hardest thing to put in my car (bring a box cutter). The body and legs are made out of *thick* plastic: Superior to the skeletal animals... The entire thing is plastic with the exception of the bolts and the braces that connect to the metal stand. That being said: the adjustable joints are also made out of plastic and a brief test of the assembled item indicates that there is definitely very defined limits to the range of movement of the legs. (I may have damaged one of them - just testing range of motion). I expect over time and UV/Heat/Cold exposure the plastic joints will lose their flexibility and they will not move at all, but, nothing lasts forever. Also: I wouldn't plan on having the legs posed crazy unless I had something large to prop it up on to balance it (and it is big). The base is pretty good, I weighed mine down with bricks. With the 8 legs spread out touching the ground, I doubt I would need much in terms of additional support to protect from the wind. Pictures are attached. I assembled it, and disassembled it to test difficulty. Fast and Easy. I just took the legs off as 8 separate pieces and stored the head/body on the base. It will take all of 3 minutes to set it up on my hill after the initial assembly stage. Hope we get more items in the future like this.

We picked this up after dark and I was so excited to see what it looked like put together, we tried to put it together in the house....It is too big to put together in the house...LoL.. I took a pic of my two legged spider in the kitchen. Humongous Prop! Love it.. Putting the legs together is a little time consuming but way worth it.. I would definitely recommend this spider to anyone that loves to decorate for Halloween. The kids love it... the pics I posted to fbook got tons of likes and positive comments.. It's really cool!

Ok so other then one great review on here with pictures there isn't much information on this guy so for those out there like myself who are interested in buying this i am also adding a review to help you all. Just picked up mine today , put together and have to disassemble still and store until Halloween. As far as assembly wasn't really tough since all the screws are the same size and the legs are made up of 3 different sections. The only trouble i had was with the top sections (G) as i had to thread the screw through the small opening before connecting it to head and screwing on. It seems like the holes weren't completely drilled out so takes a bit of force, on one i actually had to use a utility knife and scrape some of the plastic out of the hole so the screw could properly thread in. Also the metal pegs on the poles didn't fully pop thru as they are supposed to but im sure with the weight and them still in most of the way should be fine. Also was tough on some legs with that first G part to screw in since isn't much room in some spots to use the Allen key. first set up definitely took me a while by myself but now that holes are threaded thru with screws in place should be much faster next time around. Thats the only negative things i have with this. It is amazing in size and detail. I dont care what some of these people out there are saying, bottom line THIS IS WORTH THE MONEY!!! you can go buy an animatronic for 200$ just about anywhere and i own many but this is on a whole new level, doesn't need movement, its straight from my childhood nightmares it looks like a movie prop more then a Halloween decoration you bought at a home depot of all places. The way the posing works is you loosen the larger screws already on the legs and can move them to different angles which is an added bonus to customize how you want this to look in your haunt. Had a bunch of little kids get of the school bus just now, saw the spider on my lawn and ran down the block screaming. Im telling you if you buy this you WILL NOT be dissapointed. I hope the depot has props of this quality for years to come this is way better then every single prop that Spirit Halloween sells( even though i plan on buying the giant clown). happy haunting everyone. FYI quality is way better not cheap plastic that wont last more then a year or 2 this thing is heavy duty will last at least 10+ years easily. extra ideas might be hooking up a spitter pneumatic below its mouth or some way to shoot silly string :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One word: AMAZING!!!! Very cool Prop! Gargantuan is right! It's gonna be a very cool piece in our display. I love that the volume has a control. It's a bit of a pain to put together as there is a bolt for each joint that you lock into place with an Allen wrench. It's very high quality. Made of thick pvc plastic, will last for years to come! I'm sooooo thrilled with this purchase! :)

I will be adding something to cover the leg joints though. I don’t like they look also make sure all legs touch the ground so as not to put stress on the main body.

Assembly was very easy - in fact my 13 yr old son assembled at least 70% by himself. Its been a favorite so far this year. Yesterday, I had a bicyclist who stopped and asked to have his picture taken lying underneath it. He was trying to reenact a scene from the Lord of the Rings with Shelob the spider.

The beast of a spider was easy to assemble and had it mounted and ready to go in 45 min. I placed the creature on the roof of our house to scare the little kiddies for Halloween. It did, just as I suspected. Some of the tricker treaters were hesitant to approach the house but finally did, while others were dragged by their guardians as they cried, some just decided to pass by unscathed rather than be put through the wrath of the gargantuan spider, but a few approached eagerly to see up close the eight glowing eyes and hear the erie sounds the beast emitted. Overall it was a hit and was glad to add it to my Halloween display.
