Q:Anyway to replace the control rope inside the tubing that raises and lowers the umbrella?? Mine broke after less than a year of use. Very disheartening for a supposed good quality umbrella.

Also, is there a way to "lock" the umbrella in place when it's open? Or does it always swing in the wind?

Q:Hi. My umbrella fell off recently. Upon examination, seems like the 4 holes in the base (cross bar) got weak & cracked. The screws in the umbrella were intact. Any chance I can get a replacement base (/crossbar) so that I don?t have to throw the umbrella.

Buyer Beware
These didn’t last two years. We live in Michigan. That’s important because it means these umbrellas see the sun 3-4 months out of a year. Here is a photo of ours, bringing them out of INDOOR storage for the very start of the third summer.

Sunbrella faded, and broke in less than 9 months!
After a very mild Northern California winter, we attempted to open up our less than one year old umbrella, and discover it has been horrifically faded, and when attempting to crank it open, we discovered the mainline had broken and retracted up inside the frame.
Do not get a dark color like the Sunbrella Henna. I’ve never seen Sunbrella fabric fade and degrade so quickly. I think they’re lying about the actual material.

Great while it lasted!
We love this umbrella and it served us well for about 9 months. The LED lights are a beautiful touch! Unfortunately, a component on the umbrella broke this weekend making it unusable.
I’ll contact the manufacturer to see if we can replace this component

Meh...only time will tell
I had another sun shade that I bought roughly 6 years ago. It lasted 4 years before it faded and started to tear. The material on the Hamilton Bay that I just purchased is noticeably thinner and I doubt it'll last more than 2 years in Texas heat. Time will tell...
Price at time of purchase was $329 (on sale), regular price $499 (definitely NOT worth $499).

Very pleased with the umbrella. Enjoy that it can quickly fold down and swing out of the way in windy weather. Not difficult to put together but you need to decide its location prior to filling the sand bags; hard to move afterwards. Wish the base came in lighter colors (painted mine).

No cover included?!!! Come on, Hampton Bay....
For the price, it's extremely disappointing that Hampton Bay couldn't bother to include a proper SOLAR PANEL COMPATIBLE COVER for this patio umbrella, taking into consideration it has a solar panel for the LED lights. If you buy an aftermarket cover, there's no clear polyvinyl "window" at the top so the solar panel won't keep the lights charged!!! This is a major oversight on Hampton Bay's part and not easily forgivable, making the Solar LED lights almost useless unless it's left out in bright sun for several days (which in turn causes you to leave it exposed to the elements when not in use). Additionally, the solar panel and batteries are a sealed system, so you cannot remove the batteries to charge them manually on a house charger. When the batteries fail (and they WILL fail), you are left with a paperweight. They also suggest moving it to a covered area when not being used, yet if you load the base with the 220 pounds of sand as required, YOU CANNOT MOVE IT. Your only recourse is to unmount the entire umbrella from its base and bring it inside. Other assorted musings: LED's are fairly dim, and they are the harsh "blue white" type, which does NOT make for a pleasant ambiance. Quality of the umbrella canvas is OK, though it does NOT block UV rays completely, so sitting underneath this for an extended period of time may result in getting a burn. Overall, this umbrella is "meh". Definitely do NOT pay full price for it. Even the sale price is a bit steep for what you get. As for the photos - sorry I couldn't show it extended - was way too windy the day I set it up (which takes about an hour to build - the base and sand being the most time consuming).

buy when it's on sale - worth the investment
LOVE MY SOLAR UMBRELLA!! I got this on sale for $300 which is still expensive but was so worth it for protection from the intense Colorado sun, SOLAR lighting, and added privacy from my neighbors.
