On the upside, the finished product looks nice enough. It was easy to assemble even though when I first opened the box it was intimidating to me. The directions were very clear and the parts well labeled. There were not extra hinge screws and I dropped one but only one missing won't ruin the piece. The hardware quality was good - hinges and pulls. And it was sturdy once constructed. It moves around more easily than I expected from the weight of the package when delivered. It was well packed and came in excellent condition. Lots of styrofoam sheets between pieces of the cabinet. It took a couple of hours to assemble and I did it without any help. The shelves sit on L shaped pieces that poke into the side of the sides and can be adjusted as needed to different heights. On the down side it is pressboard construction with wood look plastic laminate. It is assembled with cams that tighten on screwed in extensions. Not sure how long it will last. Good for a quick easy case but it won't become an heirloom piece. I gave it 4 stars because of the logical well planned out construction and ease of assembly.

I was really happy when I unpacked the pieces for this bookcase. The finish was great, the style very clean and the pieces fit square together. So why am I so unhappy. The Cam Locks provided in kit were all PLASTIC and broke as soon as I tried to tighten on the Cam Lock Bolts. So I had to come up with a different idea to hold the bookcase together, which was corner brackets I went and purchased. UGH. All to save pennies the manufacturer made this bookcase almost unusable. I do not recommend this bookcase.

This Home Decorators Collection Bradstone Bookcase is large and heavy. It has a lot of shelf space and a very nice looking walnut brown finish. The unassembled product has 16 wood parts and over 125 pieces of hardware. I have experience assembling furniture, but unfortunately I had a very difficult time when trying to assemble this product. The written instructions are not great, but include pictures. As the instructions state; you should have 2 people to assemble this bookcase. The 6 ft. long side panels are heavy and aligning and securing them to the other panels is tricky even with a helper. The real problem though is several of the locking hardware parts either bent or broke when I tried to tighten them and because of the broken parts, I was unable to secure the supports to the side panels and complete the assembly.

The instructions for assembling the Home Decorators Bradstone 6' bookcase say that "two people are required". Believe them. I assembled the bookcase by myself and it was not a great experience. I spent a little over two hours, and I think that I could have cut the time well in half if I'd had a helper. Such things as lining up the two sides once the cam lock bolts and cam locks are installed is a trudge singlehanded - getting two 6' sides lined up with 4 shelves can be tricky. Two people would have an easier time of it. Shipping weight was, I believe, just under a hundred pounds. Get a partner. To cover the "cons" of the bookcase: There were a couple of surface defects right out of the box (see photos below). These weren’t the result of poor packing; the packing of the bookcase was exceptional. These defects simply slipped past quality control. To be fair, once the bookcase was fully assembled and in use you'd have to look pretty close to see any problems. The front valance and bottom shelf were off in tolerance - see photo. I had to work pretty hard to get all of the pieces to fit without showing a noticeable gap. Quality here could have been a bit better. The back panel had no pre-drilled holes in the bookcase, although the back itself had holes. See photo. Getting all of the screws into the bookcase without predrilled holes, using a handheld screwdriver, even with a partner is going to be a trudge. Working by myself I elected to use a cordless bit driver. Once the first screws were in the top corners, the rest was easy. You want to be careful using a power tool - it's very easy to over torque the fastener and strip it out. . The area in the case where the door hinges attach has pre-drilled holes, but the holes were too shallow to allow the hinge fasteners to be installed. The fasteners went in about 3/4 of the way and then would not go any deeper. I removed the door and tried running a fastener in and it was apparent that it was 'bottoming out' before the head was fully flush with the case frame. I used a cordless drill with a bit of the proper size and drilled the holes a little deeper. Use caution here - you only want to go as deep as the fastener is long. Going deeper could cause the drill bit to go through the exterior of the bookcase. Once I had drilled the "predrilled" holes the hinges attached to the case without a problem. The numbered stickers for each part are a bit difficult to remove. A hair dryer or heat gun (be careful, you don't want to mar the finish or burn your fingers!) helped loosen the adhesive. The "pros" - Once assembled and in use the case looks good, 3 shelves are supplied that can be moved up or down as desired, and the doors add a nice touch. Most importantly, my wife likes it. The "hardware" package includes spare parts. If you drop a part and it rolls away there's likely a spare in the bag. (Not doorknobs; you only get two). The Bradstone comes with a 3-year warranty against defects. I imagine that, had I called the company about the few surface blemishes on the case, some arrangement for replacement would have been offered - but for our usage it simply wasn't worth the bother. Overall I can't fault Home Decorators for the assembly time - they warn in the assembly instructions to get a partner. And the blemishes either disappeared when the bookcase was assembled (being turned towards the inside) or are too minor to be concerned over. I really do consider the market price when judging quality. So - keeping the hints I listed above for assembly in mind - would I recommend this bookcase? Absolutely. It looks pretty good and it works as advertised. One final note - the hardware kit includes anchors and straps for securing the bookcase to a wall. I'd heavily recommend doing that. Having a kid pull over a full bookcase while trying to reach a book on the highest shelf should be avoided. Once you have the case where you want it, do yourself a favor and secure the thing to the wall. HTH Regards, Jim

Very pleased with the product. The only help my husband needed was for me to hold something while he got it in place. Took him about 1-1/2 to 2 hours to put together.

The bookcases were perfect. They are very sturdy and we’re easy to assemble. They are just as they were pictured online. I would not hesitate to purchase them again.
