Can a sealant be used on this?

Asked by Jaime February 14, 2021
1
Answer

Yes, we recommend “click seal” by titebond. This can be used around the perimeter of the planks to seal the tongues and grooves of each plank. For the perimeter of the room, you can use a silicone sealant. Be sure to maintain a 10 mm to 12 mm expansion space. Do not use any kind of sealant on the surface of the product

No, this floor is meant to float

Would this flooring be a good ideal to lay in a bathroom around water

Asked by Boom January 10, 2021
1
Answer

The surface of the product is waterproof, but the joints are not. If you are going to install in a bathroom, you will need to seal the joints with a silicone based sealant like "Clickseal" by Titebond. This sealant should be applied to the joints of every plank, it will waterproof the joints. Additionally, the 1/2" expansion space in the perimeter of the room should be filled with silicone to prevent water from getting behind or under the floor.

Answer

Best to discuss directly with an in-store representative from a local Home Depot. They will be able to walk thru the details of your specific job and what is needed. The installation company would perform the necessary preparation for your new floor. In some cases, it is not necessary to remove the existing tile. For example, the product you are inquiring about (Castle Gray Oak) can be installed over existing tile in many cases. If you are buying the material from Home Depot and having it installed on your own, it will be best to contact a local flooring installation company to survey your job prior to ordering material. They will give you direction on what you will need to do.

Great looking floor
I first ordered a small sample and then having liked what I saw, purchased one box for about 35.00 and laid it out to get a broader feel. Each box has a coupe dark planks a couple light planks and a couple in between. We took the wood out for climate acclimation and stacked it against the wall in those three shades so we could pick the planks we wanted to use as we went to maximize color variation. The locking mechanism worked fine. Make sure to get a rubber tapping block and tap as you go to get a good lock. For the price I think the overall look is great and we get lots of compliments.

Do not waste your money
Do NOT buy this floor. Total waste of money. It has been installed for exactly 3 weeks today. Last week we started noticing random chunks of floor missing with no known cause. Now the floor is expanding and cracking. There are about 100 hairline cracks in the floor and about 100 splits in the floor which must be from expanding or from the floor not holding up. 3 weeks was all this lasted and we have over 1400 sqft of this floor on our entire first floor. Do not waste your money on this!

Castle Gray Oak – Engineered Hardwood Flooring Home Decorators Collection Item:...
Castle Gray Oak – Engineered Hardwood Flooring Home Decorators Collection Item: 1003079284 Disappointed with the quality of some boards, I found ends with what looks like drops of multi-color paint, some had yellow, some had blue, some had black, this may have been from the production process manufacturing these boards and may have slipped thru quality control (that is if any final inspection happens). Laying out the floor I did my best to use these boards by cutting off the problem when possible. Another issue I had was simply assembling the floor. I was trying to install it with past experience from another floor job I did, it was not going together well at all. Not happy and frustrated, but then decided to read the directions (included in each box) and found out I was assembling incorrectly. Once I read their directions the boards assembled just fine. Although the locking design is not as good as the past floor I did it was satisfactory and the final result was fine, it is a good-looking floor. If you purchase this type of flooring, I recommend reading the instructions first, open several boxes to plan your layout and identify and problem boards (paint on end). Prior to assembly make sure the locking channels are clear of any manufacturing small pieces that may cause problems assembling for a smooth fit. The nice thing about this floor no tools required, you can simply assemble per the instructions for a tight smooth fit. (Of course, tools for cutting, measuring, etc. are required.) Would I recommend the purchase of this floor? Many choices of flooring are out there, they all range in price and quality. What you purchase is up to you I suggest some research on the quality of the product and how it assembles since all manufactures are not the same. As to this floor my only real disappointment was finding several boards with manufacturing defects (multi-color paint spots on ends). which caused some not to be used. Overall this flooring for my budget worked out fine, the competed job looks great and I'm happy with the final results, as far as holding up over the years I cannot answer.

Castle Gray Oak Engineered Hardwood Flooring is beautiful, and looks and feels like real oak flooring. We chose a gray, textured style to match our kitchen tile, which is gray ceramic. This will be used in an adjoining room. I have not installed it yet, as we just received a sample piece to review, so I can't review the installation. It comes with a 20 year residential warranty. See pics below.

If you like Engineered Laminate Flooring this is probably as good as any other. This flooring has a nice appearance and is relatively easy to install if you're careful. First, the specifications say 1/2" think, but it's really just over 5/16" thick. I suppose if you put some type of layer under it you would get to 1/2". There are a couple of things to know about these "floating" floors. I can tell when I walk on it that it's not a solid floor, as there is some movement. Probably not a big deal, but I just don't think it feels as solid as a floor that is attached at all points. Installation is relatively easy, but you really have to watch you don't ding any of the edges or the ends or they won't completely connect together. I have a floor where I didn't quite get the butt joint together and didn't see it until I was done. I suspect I have a small particle of material in the joint because I just can't get it tight. My final concern is spills. Even though many of these laminates say they can handle water, I'm skeptical. I worry about the laminate expanding and then leaving a high spot in the floor - hasn't happened, but I am concerned about it.

What a nice piece of wood. I like the quality of the engineered wood, but it doesn't have that great feel of wood that I get with some other engineered woods. I like how it has the grooves to install easily like a puzzle piece. Also, it is thin so doesn't add much depth to the flooring if you want to install over tile. You can also use this wood for other applications such as a drink coaster. It is very versatile. The color is a gray and it does go well with almost all the colors in my house. I think this is great for a closet or small spaces.

Beautiful
I love, love, love this floor. It is much better than anticipated. Have had it a week, seems very durable especially with a dog chasing his ball around - not a scratch. I used 1/4 in cork underlayment and it is very solid and not noisy at all. Love the GREENGUARD GOLD certification!! This was very important to me. The only downside is the sloppy installer Home Depot sent out. Dinging up the wood, left huge gaps and didn’t bother to trim out the closets. I contacted the store on Monday and sent pics of the horrible install, a week later and several follow-up emails, have not heard back. Very dissapointing

Trash
Ordered 12 cartons for small home office. I am experienced with flooring installs, and floated floors. The issue is that the actual wood is very thin and the rest is the cheap particle board. Now the last floor was that same material and was fine, but this has some of the locking tongues falling off as you pick it from the carton. It doesn't "click" or "lock at all" simply overlaps itself loosely. Very poor QC. It is unfortunate because the color is nice. I had expected a plywood like material. This is pretty much cardboard. Will be returning and getting something made of wood.
