What is the weight limit that someone should be to sit on this bench? I'd like to use it for an entryway for people to sit down and tie their shoes. I can't find that anywhere. Has anyone ever used this bench? Have you ever had a problem with people sitting on it?

We've had this bench in our kid's bathroom for over 3 years. My husband who is 6'4 300+ has sat on it with no problem. I regularly use when helping the kids bathe and it's wonderful. It has held up and looks almost new after 3 years.

I have the medium bench. It's 36 wide, 14 1/2 deep, and I believe 21 high. It's at another residence, so I'm not sure of the height, but width and depth I know for sure..............on the medium sized bench.

Customer Reviews

Madison White Lift-Top Storage Bench is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 153.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Storage Bench The product was delivered ontime. The size, color, and style was what I was looking for. I am using it in front of a king size bed. I was able to fit 6 queen quilts and 4 lap quilts. Cons: It took several hours to assemble and the instructions were hard to read since literally all pieces went together at once. I needed my husband to help hold pieces. Also, one section had been minorly damaged either in the factory or through shipping but I was able to paint it and you can hardly notice. I buy a lot of furniture that needs to be assembled from various stores and this seems to be a common occurance - usually the corner of something is slightly damaged. (Though this one was slightly damaged on the front panel, it seemed like too much of a hassle to ship it back for another one just for the small damage). I decided to repair it myself and can live with the results. I also wish it came with a cushion but it didn't, so I will make one to fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from very hard to assemble I am a master Ikea assembler, so the other reviews about the difficult assembly didn't phase me. But about four pages into the instructions, it's true: there is an exact order that the sides, back and front must be assembled in order for the pegs to align, and the instructions simply do not give any clarity on the matter. It's all trial-and-error from that point on. And, in our case, mostly error. We ended up scratching the front twice in our attempts to flip the half-assembled unit this way and that, and I'm glad our kids were sleeping because the language issuing forth was not pretty. We did finally succeed, and the finished piece--though particle board--does look nice, especially given the price. But it was a headache to assemble. And judging by how easily the front scratched during assembly, I don't have high hopes that the thin finish will last long in our daughter's room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted Although I originally ordered this storage bench in February to use for taking off boots, it didn't arrive until May. It was extremely frustrating to put together. My husband started it and after about 2 hours of grumbling I came to help him and discovered that the back was upside down. We found the holes and pegs did not line up in several places and determined we would have to redo it or the other pieces wouldn't fit. He gave up and my sister took his place. It took us at least another 2 hours of putting it together and taking it apart until we finally got it right (my husband was very impressed). But now that it's together it looks really good, well-made, not cheap at all. Just remember to line up all the holes and pegs before assembling it. I have it in my mudroom, right by my garage door. It's even great in the warm weather as I use it to put down my purse, packages, groceries, etc. instead of using the floor when I come in. And it will be perfect to use to take off boots in the winter as it is very sturdy. Now if I can only remember it's right at the door and not hit my knee every time I come in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The bench is very sturdy with better hardware than I have seen in similar products. It is bright white and does look nice when assembled. There were a few minor flaws in the wood. The downfall is the assembly instructions. They do not give a clear order in which to assemble pieces. Assembly is not difficult but would be much easier if the order was listed. I found it worked to attach front to bottom first - however, in that the front will be parallel to the ground, this can not be done without a second set of hands or something to support the front panel while attaching other pieces. The top and top back piece should also be put together. Next the sides are attached to front, top and bottom at the same time. Lastly the back is attached. I found the cam locks need to be straight and flush with the surface of the piece. All holes/locks matched up very well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EXACTLY what I needed for my foyer!!! We just moved into a new house and knew I wanted to purchase a bench with storage room. So when the Madison lift-top storage bench went on sale (as did the Madison Etagere) I HAD to purchase them...and I am VERY happy I did!!! I had been eye-balling these pieces for a while...but no room to put them...so it was just meant to be!!! For the price the quality is very nice. My son put both pieces together within an hour, and aside from the fact there were a couple of times when it definitely took two people to assemble them (just to hold a section in place...nothing major) it was a snap!!! The pieces are a perfect fit for me and make my foyer look very warm and inviting without costing me an arm and a leg!!! Thanks for making them affordable!!! You've earned a customer for life!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works It fits the space in my kitchen where I wanted seating, looks nice, and functions just fine. My toddler won't close it on her fingers because it has a safety hinge. The directions for assembly are pretty bad. And the holes have been painted over, which makes getting some of the pieces to fit slightly challenging, or at least confusing. I am a very petite female and I managed to put the whole thing together all by myself, but it took 2 hours and I scraped one knuckle. I do tend to go slowly though on assembly to make sure I am not making a mistake. If I assembled another one now, it would probably only take 25 minutes. The instructions look like a New Yorker cartoon - step one: open box, step two: magically simultaneously fit a million pieces together somehow.
