Why is there 9 full 72 inch pieces and 1 piece 2 different sizes? Its like this in all 37 boxes

Asked by jayson May 11, 2020

Answers

The different sizes make it easier for staggered installation. If the pieces are all even, you will need to cut more and ends up wasting more pieces.

Asked by mz October 24, 2018

Answer

The recommended radiant heat system for an engineered bamboo is the Hydronic Radiant Heating System. This allows for even temperatures throughout the floor and a balanced humidity throughout the house. This prevents the floor from drying out too rapidly and causing splitting and face checking. You can contact the Home Decorator's customer service team at 800-986-3460 to request a written copy of the warranty which provides detailed terms of coverage and limitations.

Does this floor shrink? how can I deal with that? and also, is it scratch resistant?

Asked by Gabs May 1, 2018

Answers

Wood flooring can shrink and expand, so make sure your installer allows for that (our allowance was under the base board ds). Also, make sure that you give it at least two weeks to acclimate before you install (i.e. take it out of the box and cross stack in the room you’re going to install it in for two weeks). And I would also advise to use a good underpayment, we used the orange one from Home Depot).

Can this floor be used below grade

Asked by Scott April 28, 2018
1
Answer

It can be installed Below grade, But be careful and use a Home Depot approved moisture barrier at least 6mm vapor barrier/with a Good pad to help minimize noise reduction. Make sure you do a moisture test on your Concrete subfloor and record the test, you will need it in the future to prove you did it. Also do a moisture test on the bamboo boards and let them acclimate for as much time needed to get acclimated to the conditions. Humidity levels should be 40-60% if more than that get a dehumidifier to suck up any excess moisture levels. Concrete should be 6 to 9% and no more. Bamboo should be 7 to 9% when installed.

Is this floor waterproof?

No, it is not water proof. It is rather water resistant. We’ve had water/drinks spilled on it and clean up was a breeze. However, you should clean up the spill when it happens, you wouldn’t want standing liquid for a period of time.

What is the best product to use to clean these floors

We installed these in December and noticed the same thing. Currently the best thing we have found is the Bona wood cleaning system. We did a lot of research and this seems to be the recommended method amongst all bamboo floor owners.

According to the installation instruction, it's either "float" or glue-down installation. In my opinion, the tongue of the material is a little "fragile" to take a nail or a staple and may split apart. I have floated my installation and it seems to hold up fine, just make sure you "acclimate" your flooring first before installation, for my installation I let it sat for 2 weeks before installation. I also "relief" cut the back of my flooring for the narrow area such as hallway & closet, I'm sure doing this will void the warranty, but it seems to stabilize the material from warping.

I very rarely leave product reviews, but we had such disastrous results with this product I felt compelled to warm others. We had this flooring installed throughout the entire home following a fire- initially, it looks absolutely beautiful with a very rich dark color. However, within 3 months, we began to experience severe buckling of the product. We removed much of it and it was reinstalled, ensuring that there was ample room for expansion. 3 months later, we began to have the same buckling issues again- it was so bad that it actually popped the quarter round molding off the baseboard. We also began to notice mystery spots- it appeared that ANY small trace of water would result in the wood layer flaking off and it also scratched very easily. We are small family- two adults and a teenage son with no pets, we are not very hard on the floor- however, after 6 months (much of which we were not living in the home as it is was still being restored) the floor looked to be 3-4 years old. After doing a lot of research, I have come to find that humid weather and bamboo are not a good fit. Since we do live in Florida, it seems like we were fighting a losing battle with this floor. Ultimately, we were quite fortunate that we were able to have the entire flooring replaced as the insurance company conceded to the issues. We ended up install a dark cherry wood like tile (also from Home Depot) and could not be happier with this choice. I leave this review as a warning to anyone seriously considering this product- it appears to be poorly made and does damage quite easily. Perhaps in a different climate things would have been better, but if you live in an area prone to high humidity, I would steer clear!

Easily installed and looks good. Only complaints: 1)packaging was not very substantial. Arrived pretty banged up but planks were not unusable. 2) this is sold as 6 foot planks but several boxes had 2 piece planks consisting of a 4' and a 2' piece.

I recently installed about 325 sq. ft. of this wood (3/8" click lock in Java) and overall I'm pleased with the ease of installation and how the floor looks. First, let me start with a few of the 'bad' items I came across. One of the boxes of wood I received had issues with the veneer top. Every time I made a cut with my miter saw the top of the wood around the edge would detach giving it a milky appearance. This seemed to be a problem with the entire box, though I didn't encounter this with wood from any of the other boxes so I don't believe it was the blade on my saw. Ultimately I used each piece from this box for edges underneath baseboard moulding and closet pieces to keep them from view. Not a deal breaker by any means. The only other negative I came across was a few warped pieces here and there, maybe 3-4 that couldn't be used as full length pieces that ultimately were used as cut pieces. Again, not a deal breaker for only 3-4 pieces of wood. Now the good. First, I think this product looks great installed. I've never used click lock before, I'm impressed at the precision of the locking mechanism. There are really no gaps between any boards, this wood seems to me machined well. Cuts from my miter saw and table saw came out clean minus the one box I mentioned earlier with veneer issues. My jigsaw has a cheap blade, cuts from it were rough though they're all hidden under door jambs and floor registers. After installation, the floor feels very solid. I haven't noticed any boards that feel like they're floating. I have a few pieces where I can hear the underlayment crackle when I step on them, this should subside after awhile. Installation is an absolute breeze. On day one I did an entire bed room (130 sq. ft.) in about 4 hours without any help. I'm by no means an expert, just a weekend DIYer. It's nice to not be tethered to a pneumatic nailer, definitely speeds up the process. The boards go together easily and I mostly used a hard whack with my hand to get them into place. A few places in closets and around door jambs required a mallet and tapping block. Last thing I want to mention is durability. I've only had this wood installed for a few weeks but so far I see no scratches. I feel that it is as durable as I expected... my 30lb. dog doesn't scratch it, a few random drops on the floor have not caused any damage. I had my shop vac rolling around it and again, no issues. Based on my issues with one of the boxes having a messed up veneer I don't expect this to be super durable wood but at $2/sq. ft., I feel like I got what I paid for.

beautiful floor!! easy install
This flooring product was just awesome. A breeze to instal with the click lock feature and best of all bo glue mess or staples needed. This board has a plywood base MDF center and a pretty thick veneer of bamboo on top. Defintley excited that i did not get the one offered in other popular yellow stores that had a paper thin veneer. I would not be surprised if this can be refinished. Anyway get yourself a nice underlayment. I live in south florida so humidy is an issue. To bot void warranty i installed 6mil vapor barrier and robert felt underlayment on top of that. Beautiful solid floor!!
