How much does this weigh and how durable is it
Asked by: Katie
I don't recall what the weight showed on the shipping box, but I believe if you look at the specifications section for this product on Homedepot's website, the weight will be listed. It appears to me to be very durable--and it was heavy. My husband and I assembled it in the livingroom and needed to use furniture sliders to get it to the bedroom where we placed it.

First, let me say this is a heavy piece, which is a good thing, It comes in two boxes and you really should consider getting help to transport. The assembly was typical modular furniture build, finished particle board special fasteners, etc. no surprises. having a helper will make this go faster. Assembly took me over two hours alone. nothing was damaged in shipment, whch was a pleasant surprise. There are a few pieces in this colection so you do have the ability to add complimentary pieces. I used this in aour back hallway, which is like a mud room, we added some baskets to the cubbies and store shoes, gloves etc. there is more than enough room now and it really dressed up the area. overall it is well made and should hold up under normal use. It does not rock and is fairly firm with no issue of tipping over. i

This organizer now serves as a credenza (sans writing surface) in my home office. Much better than an ordinary bookcase, the cubicles retain my active files and folders or ready references. The divided storage lends itself to accepting projects that I open and close. So ongoing work items also can be flanked by objets d'art or, in my case, specimens from open jobs. I also have field kits with various measuring and test equipment and safety gear that I can toss in the cubicles. The top is a proud presentation for those 'desk trophies,' while the two double door bottom storage spaces hide bulk office supplies, stationary, batteries and bulbs, camera equipment, portable lanterns. and a small repair kit. The finest aspect of this organizer is its flexibility. Its compartments all fill and empty independently as I commence new and finish old jobs. It's always in demand and is a great improvement over my old office 'piling' system. It is deep enough to store folders and notebooks on edge or face-up. Unlike totes and trans-files, the cubicles (with a retaining lip) let me cluster paperwork and publications alongside related specimens and gadgets in full view with only limited necessity to label containers and sort through stacks. The overall unit is high enough to be a good place for a table lamp casting general illumination into the room. The organizer is generously wide and stands proudly against a wall adjoining a window. It is not so long to look massive/imposing or commercial (because of its redundancy). The white finish is solid without holidays or blemishes. If you believe it to be too stark - and would like better to match your decor - I believe the finish readily would accept overcoating.

I have to say, it was cumbersome to put together--so many screws and bolts but all pieces except the backboard lined up well. The backboard was quite a disappointment, since the boards (3 of them) didn't fit perfect in the riveted area, so to get them in, the panels had to be bowed a bit. After bowing them, they went into the riveted area well enough but the holes for the screws didn't line up on all the pieces which caused some of the screws to puncture through to the right side. I had to cover those with white putty. I wish the manufacturer had put the same quality into the backboard as they did with the rest of the unit. The doors lined up very well when I installed them. You definitely need two people when putting this organizer together, or you risk snapping some partitions off their screws. Overall I'm happy with this organizer, in spite of the backboard issue. if I needed a second one, I would buy another. The quality is good, it looks good, it's very sturdy and practical. And it comes with the hardware to attach it to the wall to prevent tipping. Instructions were good and all necessary hardware was included (and complete).

The rear back panels screw holes do not line up with the predrilled holes in the frames. We thought the panels might be mislabeled for their positions but we tried them in different order which didn’t help. A major problem are the doors. They do not fit due to overlap at the middle/between each side and excess rubbing on the top sides. The unit frames and the overal structure is level. The position of the predrilled holes for the hinges on the frames or the doors themselves appear to be the problem. My father was a cabinet maker and I have tried all his tricks with no success. I will attempt to add new holes for the door placement. I will do an update if successful. The center leg is too long causing the unit to teeter. It must be cut off so unit is level. If you attempt to over tighten the female in the bottom will tear out.
