Can HL139P be put down without gluing or nailing?

Although the pieces need not be glued or nailed down, however they will need to be glued together. I installed the pieces as a floating floor over radiant heat padding and it worked fine. Glueing the pieces together was easier than I thought it would be, using a thin line of glue in each slot. Flip board over and run the glue line so it runs down into slot when it is turned back over. Use glue sparingly so it does no come up seam and is not noticeable after installation. Any excess glue can be wiped off right away.

Nails, use a good nail gun, don't use Staples. May guess is Staples will have more of a chance of splitting the boards Tung.

What coordinating pieces match this product?

After I installed I realized they don’t offer matching finish pieces. I tried matching the color/grain but wasn’t happy with the look. I wound up going with ebony finish pieces and painted stairs the same. Nice look, matches the dark knotting of the floor.

Answers

You need the expansion gap for seasonal expansion/contraction between the floor and any vertical obstructions. T-Molding is needed only if you are doing a floating installation for a floor spanning more than 35 feet (long or wide) or doorways or passageways 5 ft. wide or less. This will decrease the stress on the tongue & groove from the additional movement.

Does this have to acclimate prior to installing?

Asked by Lola July 2, 2017

Answers

Yes ..best to get cases into area that your are installing. And open up all cases. I know if you open more than 4 cases you can not return the full order. Opening all cases is best and you are saying at that point, I am not returning any of the cases. Best to open to acclimate.

How thick is the actual hickory layer (minus HDF)? can this be resanded?

Asked by Valhalla November 19, 2013

Answer

This product is not suitable for resanding to the point of staining. The product can be "resurfaced" but not "refinished."

Installed this in my home a few years back. The clear coat is chipping off everywhere. Looks like trash. Went round and round with Home Depot and Home Legend and finally Home Legend sent an "independent inspector" out (yeah, independent, I bet) and he said the areas where the chipping was are "high traffic" areas and they couldn't honor the warranty. We have two small kids and their play room is in the basement. No pets. 4 people (two of them under 40 lbs) is not "high traffic", that's absurd. Will never buy Home Legend again.
