Questions & Answers

Can HL139P be put down without gluing or nailing?

Can HL139P be put down without nailing or gluing?
Asked by: LB1957
Although the pieces need not be glued or nailed down, however they will need to be glued together. I installed the pieces as a floating floor over radiant heat padding and it worked fine. Glueing the pieces together was easier than I thought it would be, using a thin line of glue in each slot. Flip board over and run the glue line so it runs down into slot when it is turned back over. Use glue sparingly so it does no come up seam and is not noticeable after installation. Any excess glue can be wiped off right away.

My previous question was not adequately answered. Why is butting up to a door threshold acceptable for nailed down, but must leave ½ gap around wall for the perimeter of the room. If this is a natural product that expands and contracts, what makes the door threshold different than the wall? Previous Question: When installing as nailed down, why is a 1/2 perimeter expansion gap still required? If it is for expansion, why are "T" transition strips not required? Previous Response: This is a natural product that will expand and contract based on the season, so the expansion gap is still required around the perimeter of the floor and between floor and all vertical obstructions. The T-Molding is only required if you are floating the installation for floor spanning greater than 35 feet in length or width; doorways or passageways 5 ft. wide or less which will reduce the stress on the tongue & groove from the additional movement.

You need the expansion gap for seasonal expansion/contraction between the floor and any vertical obstructions. T-Molding is needed only if you are doing a floating installation for a floor spanning more than 35 feet (long or wide) or doorways or passageways 5 ft. wide or less. This will decrease the stress on the tongue & groove from the additional movement.

Does this have to acclimate prior to installing?
Asked by: Lola
Yes ..best to get cases into area that your are installing. And open up all cases. I know if you open more than 4 cases you can not return the full order. Opening all cases is best and you are saying at that point, I am not returning any of the cases. Best to open to acclimate.

Distressed Barrett Hickory 3/8 in.x3-1/2 in. and 6-1/2 in. Varying Length Engineered Hardwood Floor (26.25 sq. ft./case) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Distressed Barrett Hickory Flooring Distressed Barrett Hickory 3/8 in.x3-1/2 in. and 6-1/2 in. Varying Length Engineered Hardwood Floor (26.25 sq. ft./case)I recently did a self installation of 21 case of the Distressed Barrett Hickory. I have installed many hardwood flooring over many years. And this is the best I've ever installed. The manufacturer did a great job in packaging, not 1 board was damaged. Not one plank was warped. Installed straight as an arrow over one run which is almost 40 feet long. All planks slide together with very little effort. Finished installation looks fantastic. My hats off to this manufacturer. This is a 5 star product. Only downside was time of delivery. It took almost 4 weeks to get it delivered to my local Home Depot. The tracking was near to impossible for this online order. The receiving store had no way of tracking my online order. Home Depot has to make improvements for tracking an online order by the receiving store. Home Depot drops the ball for tracking ones order. All this said, fantastic product. Would order again.

I am going to use it again in my lake house in the very near future. Contrary to some reviews below, it is great with water(my cats are sloppy) and I don't have a scratch in the whole house! It is very warm and rich looking! Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product! We recently ordered 925 SF of this flooring and have been very happy with it. We have it in our living room and kitchen. It looks great- a bit rustic but pulled together. The only surprise was that it does look a bit hand scraped- that was not what we were looking for, but are still pleased. Cleans up great- it's a dream for homes with little ones!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT buy this flooring I have had this flooring for a few years now, so I can speak of how it has held up. At this point, I would love to have it replaced. It is not durable by any means. It is very easily damaged by water, and the result is the top few layers peeling off. The layers mimic cardboard, IMO. It looked great in the beginning, but I felt the need to share so the consumer was aware of this. If I had to do over again, my choice would be vinyl or REAL hardwoods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great floor I completely disagree with a previous review - we bought and installed this flooring in our $600K house in April of 2015 and we love it - the look, the feel and durability.

I should have went with the click lock, depot has samples of the click lock but not the engineered and the sample seemed a lot more durable. and when I ordered it at home depot the sales person said the engineered clicked together but he was wrong and it needs glue. get a sample of each and test them for yourself.
