I have a concrete subfloor. I would prefer to use underlayment instead of glue. Is that ok? If so, what kind of underlayment?

Asked by Tsnellwood March 19, 2021

Answer

Thank you for your question. A floating installation without glue is the primary installation method for this flooring. If installing over a concrete subfloor, a 6 mil polyethylene film should be used. Please see the installation instructions in the box or on the product's page on HomeDepot.com for more details.

I’ve had this floor in my kitchen and the most of the downstairs for almost 3 years and have had no water issues. When I was looking for flooring I tested several samples by leaving water on it overnight and this one did fantastic. Some of the others started to peel. I absolutely love this floor!

What cleaning products work best? And what can i use to remove glue residue?

I can't answer for the glue question, but for general cleaning I use Orange Glow every day cleaner for hardwood and laminate floor. I spray it on the floor and use a dusting "mop" that has a removable cover, one side is microfiber, (this is the side I use) and the other side has little blue microfiber "fingers" on it. most of the time there is no streaking.

Does this floor have an AC rating for wear ?

Asked by John December 19, 2019

The Home Legend Distressed Kinsley Hickory is a engineered hardwood floor. It is not a laminate flooring therefore it doesn't have a AC rating for wear. I've had my floor for about 3 years and I've only noticed maybe 2 small scratches since its been installed. Since the floor has a distressed look the scratches can be hidden with any stain stick that's a close match to your floor. Google the difference between laminate flooring and engineered hardwood.

Has anyone used store bought cleaner on the engineered hardwood home legend distressed. I wash with recommended alcohol

Asked by Lucy April 4, 2019

Don't go overboard cleaning the floor. Sweep, dust, use a spray bottle with some water and a squirt of dishwashing soap to get spots where food was spilled. Alcohol doesn't leave any residue. I just used 100% alcohol on a left over plank and ....nothing. Maybe the well water is an issue. Try bottled water. The flooring is easy to care for. Use a swiffer type dry duster with a squirt bottle attached. Shouldn't need anything more than a spray here and there to help gather the dust and lift the occasional spot.

Has anyone installed over above grade concrete and ifso what was your method.

Placed it over above grade in a condo. This was a replacement for an engineered Bruce floor. I reused the existing vapor barrier.

What interior entry door floor mat do you recommend to use with this flooring?

Asked by Bildeb January 24, 2019

I use a nylon low-level loop entry mat with a rubber non-slip backing. It's machine washable (don't put it in the dryer or the backing will melt) and looks smart.

it looks really good, couldn't be happier from that aspect. the only con is that is makes a noise when walked on. not a squeak, more of a crackle and not on every step. I am hoping it will settle down, it's only been in a couple of weeks.

I've done three rooms so far with this flooring using a 2mm purple foam underlayment. The underlayment is harder to put down than the flooring - it curls, it doesn't line up easily, it tears easily. The flooring goes down nicely - locks well. Very few damaged pieces. Most can be cut to remove the damage and used as the first or last piece in a row. Because it is thin (3/8") and floating, I notice creaking here and there but I don't care about it. I grew up in a house with oak flooring that creaked more. I scratched several pieces accidentally after installation. I used Minwax oil based walnut stain on the scratch and followed up by wiping on some polyurethane spar varnish which dries yellowish. Can't see where the scratches were except one where the scratch was deep into the wood underneath and there is a thin dark line of stain. Not bad, though. Where the flooring meets tile I put down a T strip using Loctite PL375 Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive. It worked better for me than Liquid Nails Floor Adhesive which seemed rubbery when it dries.

Beautiful Looking Floor
Beautiful looking flooring! I just put in 500 Sq. Ft. Very easy installation. I wasn't sure about using 3/8" (had to add a thin layer of subfloor under to get it to match up with a tiled floor). Now that it is in I would not have a problem recommending the 3/8" planks. The only complaint I have is one box was labeled correctly but it had the wrong planks in it! I had ordered extra so I will return the wrong material. So make sure you order extra so you will have enough for you project in case you get a wrong box of planks!

I love my new floor!!!
What a great deal on solid hardwood flooring. The wood is beautiful!! I had this flooring installed in my kitchen, and the floor does not show dirt. The flooring is very durable and easy to clean. I would recommend this flooring to anyone looking for hardwood that looks fantastic and does not need a lot of work. It actually made the room look larger. The sample that I was given was exactly how it looks. Also, I would like to mention that the Home Depot Installer did an excellent job.

Beautiful floor
We installed this flooring on all of our bedrooms and offices. The floors were easy to install and very little unusable boards. We had all full pieces never any smaller pieces in the boxes. We purchased 35 boxes. We had them ship to store some did come in damaged but in Home Depot still no problems with the returns. The floor have added a real richness and warms to the room and seem to be very durable. Besides dusting them I use the Bruce hardwood floor spray about every 3 weeks . We were able to take our time and complete this with ease. Only tools really needed to put the floor in was a mallet, miter saw, level and the spacers for keeping correct distance from wall. You do need to add a underlayment but that was easy and order it right from Home Depot on line and had it delivered to the door for free. We added white quarter round. The threshold were done using and unfinished threshold and stained to match.
