Questions & Answers

Does this product really make noises as you walk on it?

What about the guarantee --- what is guaranteed? Is it necessary to glue it down?
Asked by: tjksales
Yes. Yes it does pop. We have no small children or pets and the floor is still pretty after 3 years, but we do "baby" it. We had professionals install the flooring. The wood is soft and scratches and dents easily so we try to be careful about moving things. Our house was built in the 70s and so we pretend the popping is like that of floors in old houses, but it does make noise in some areas and periodically - especially at night - it gets on my nerves.

how do you install this floor over a concret floor? do you need a plywood sub-base? or glue? or is it floating?

Asked by: Henry
This is a floating floor, you don't need plywood if it is already level and dry. Just a good underlayment and you are good to go.

what flooring can be installed in a bathroom

Asked by: jason
I assume you mean what works best, obviously you can install whatever you want. TIle is probably the best choice, but in certain circumstances wood floor is ok too. Laminate can also work, but tiles is definitely your best choice.

Hand Scraped Maple Modena 3/8 in.Thick x 4-3/4 in.W x 47-1/4 in. Length Click Lock Hardwood Flooring (24.94 sq.ft./case) is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product disappoints We had professional installation of this product and the appearance is as expected. The unexpected is the sound when walked upon--sounding like bubble wrap. When we contacted Home Legends the response was very scripted, "The noise will stop within a month of installation." It didn't quiet and the service about our complaint has been negative, an adjustor came to our home and gathered info and now the manufacturer says it was incorrectly installed, that our floor was unsuitably uneven, that there is no fault in the product. We used the best underlayment and while there is one uneven place in the concrete below, the entire floor continues to creak and pop five months later. We feel we have no recourse but to replace it with another product at our expense--meanwhile we feel as if we have a poorly made modular addition we're embarrassed to invite friends into because of the noise. We will not replace with this product but don't know what to do since it'll be at our expense--including installation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good, but... There are some details that I wish I had known prior to buying this flooring. I ordered about 26 boxes online and also purchased several boxes in store. There appear to be two different box types for this flooring, one has ONLY full length pieces and one has some smaller "random" length pieces and also full length pieces. If you are picking boxes in store look for boxes that are marked as "length planks" on the side, these are the boxes with ONLY full length planks. Boxes don't have this marking also have the shorter pieces. Also, be careful when installing, some planks do not lock together well. It appears that different batches can have small differences in the locking groves which prevent the boards from lying flat when locked together. This will create bubbles in the floor. And one more thing. The finish variation between the boxes can be pretty large. Some have a lot of red in the finish and some are more grey. Seems like the quality control is pretty loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good, scrapes a little I installed this floor about a year ago in our master bedroom and throughout the hallway. I installed it by myself in about 8 hours, so not too bad at all. It looks really nice and I have overall been happy with it. We have two dogs, and it has stood up to them pretty well. In some places if you get down on your knees and look sideways in the right light you can see some scratches but nothing when you are walking on it. We have no problems with it cracking or anything like that, and I used the cheapest underlayment I could find. It will definitely scratch if you drop heavy things on it, I was moving the top part of a heavy wooden desk and it fell and left a mark, but I think that would have happened with regular hardwood floors too. Overall a good value and I am happy with it. For those looking for a reasonably priced solution for not having carpet, I honestly would consider laminate floors over these though, they make some really nice laminates that look like real wood floors basically and are almost indestructible. Just something to consider.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy We put this flooring throughout our entire house. We are very happy with it. We put home depots premium underlayment beneath the flooring and we dont have problems with noise that others have mentioned. There are a couple boards that creak when you walk on them but we feel that is from when we installed it we didnt tap each joint so its a joint that isnt as tight as it could and should be. We have 100lb and 50lb dogs that are always inside with us and yes there are scratches but its in on the surface not all the way through the wood. You have to expect that with any engineered hardwood. If you are worried about that you should go with laminate which is a lot more resistant to wear and tear. We have had this flooring for almost 4 years and are very happy with it. We would purchase it again without a second thought.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would NEVER buy again The first day this floor was installed I thought I made the right decision! Gorgeous......for only ONE day. If you want to live in your house, have guests over, if you have children, or own a dog, DO NOT BUY this floor. I thought I would actually be able to walk on this floor (imagine that?), but you can not do anything of the sort without it getting scraped, worn, or blotchy. My floor has so many scratches in it I could cry! For the record- I am a neat and clean nut , so the wear is not negligence. The floor just simply can not handle normal, everyday, wear and tear!!!!! We take shoes off etc..... I just moved the throw carpet and under it the stain has been removed from the floors and is now a lighter color. I have floors with solid wood in other rooms that are still in good shape after ten years. I am stuck with this floor and extremely disappointed with it! Btw it is only 3 months new!

Purchased this product in 2015, a year later in two areas the surface finish started to disappear, living patches of unprotected wood. HomeDepot initially denied this to be a warranty claim, based on images I shared, they never visiting our house. After confronting the store manager, he promised to have someone visiting our residence, but this never happened. When I call, I get the response: we are sending someone soon. Obviously HomeDepot does not stand to their products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than I expected. I have installed a lot of locking flooring and this was by far the easiest installation I have ever experienced. Note this is not solid hardwood, but rather 1/32 inch veneer on hardboard. Having said that, I believe this is a very durable flooring that will last for many years. This has a scrapped finish which means that no two pieces are identical in appearance or texture. Also it comes in 4 different lengths so there is no repeating pattern. During the installation, I had to repair several nicks and dents caused by the installer (me). I used furniture repair marking pens and the repairs are nearly invisible. Nobody but me will ever see them. This is a rather dark finish and I was concerned about dust showing easily, but since this has a finish that is between semi-gloss and satin, dust does not show as bad as with the high gloss cherry finishes. Considering the affordable price, this was an excellent investment. I gave it 4 stars for quality because, in my opinion, there were several damaged boards that should never gotten by quality control. I was able to use most of them at the start of a row or the end of a row, but quality control should have rejected them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product crackles when you walk on it Floor was installed on dry, level concrete slab by a professional with Home Depot purchased padding beneath. The wood was stored in the room and acclimated before installation. Joints on boards have a tacky waxy substance on them to make the tongue and groove "click" system stick together. When you walk on the floors they make a crackling noise everywhere you step caused by the " joint adhesive" binding. Awful product. If you buy it, glue it down, maybe you'll have better results.
