Hello, If you are measuring the pipe the outside diameter will be larger than 3/4". But the pipe will be marked 3/4". Note you cannot use PVC fittings or valves with CPVC pipe.
I do not think you can change it. If there is a small cap in the middle pry that out and there should be a screw that secures it. The newer ones I think are glued in place.

Hi Ron! I don't think I would use this valve for that. I would install a Brass threaded Valve instead. I used a lot of these in my Fruit Orchard outside where I could easily get to them for replacement and small leaks did not matter due to the fact they were on a timer. Stephen 4/20/2020.
