If you don't want to use the bag, how is your feet and legs protected when grass is discharged from mower?

Answer This Question

Hi Debbie, You would simply slide the Clip Director to the Bag position, remove the bag, and pull the discharge guard down to allow the clippings to fall directly behind the mower as shown in the HRN216VKA Lawn Mower Operation video at the 6:55 mark. https://youtu.be/RH0iVhZQ-Hg

What is the difference between models HRN216VYAD and HRN216VKAD?

      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi Joseph, The primary difference between the HRN216VYA and the HRN216VKA is the HRN216VYA model offers the convenient Roto-Stop® feature that stops the blades without stopping the engine, which is perfect for emptying the bag or removing debris. Super easy to start and the dual blades do a great job of mulching up the clippings.

2nd time using and both times have been more than pleasant. I’m hoping the good impression that Honda mowers have will benefit me! So far so good! Highly recommend!

It does the job, but feels cheap.
I have a lawn care business and use a lot of mowers, I only use this one as a back up and for very small yards. It feels cheaper compared to the older Honda mowers, lots of plastic parts, when changing cut height levers feel cheap, and same with the mulch to bag lever. The motor will out live everything else on it, but it leaves a good cut, decent power, and very lightweight. Can’t complain to much for the price, but the toro recycler 22 in my opinion is built better and stronger than this.

If you must walk, this is your mower!
My John Deere riding mower broke down, and needed rebuilt. I needed something else to use in the meantime. Almost everything out there is junk. Then I checked Home Depot's website, and saw this Honda mower. I know how high the quality of Honda small engines are, so I was immediately interested. I bought one, and it has all the features you want, and yes, it starts easily with a gentle pull, on the first pull. And, it lets you reach areas that a rider won't reach!

1st gas mower that I could pull start!
We live on a farm and there is always fences to edge around and as an approaching 60 year old woman, I do not have the strength or time to weed eat all that. Battery mowers couldn’t hold up to the use. In our business we make machines with Honda motors so I knew the motor would be good. I just wanted a mower that I could pull start all by myself. 1st pull was like cutting through butter-shockingly easy and caught the first time. I read where Honda is not producing these anymore put parts would be available. With free and fast shipping to your door-that’s a no-brainer! With small mechanical skills, I unboxed it where the driver left it using a family member to lift it out. I could have cut the box down and rolled it out I suppose. Performance has been amazing-cuts down thick and tall weeds plus thick grass. I was a little shocked at the $549 price but hey, I’m shocked at the grocery checkout these days too! Very pleased! Get one now before they are gone!

                    What I been missing!
In case you're on the fence about this mower, they have it for rent. Rent before you buy if needed. My grass was 4 weeks overgrown. This mower cut like it was nothing! Big mounds of tough grass was super easy, and it never choked down. The self propel is great! Instead of being "all or nothing", it has a "gas pedal" on the handle you use with your thumb(and adjustable). The harder you push, the faster it goes. When you let off, it turns into a regular push mower without resistance.

                      Pros and cons
Overall it is a good mower. I had uneven yard and It did a good job. See photos below before and after. It got stuck a few times (maybe because I had very long grass), so I had to restart it again. I had bought a rechargeable mower another brand from another store, it wasn`t good for my yard. I returned it and bought this Honda. Happy so far.

Mower came to my house but the blade was hitting the deck as I attempted to mow. I’m normally pleased with Honda but this seemed like a production or assembly problem. I returned it to my local HD. Delivery was very simple and service was exceptional.

Drive Belt broke, taking the engine with it
I purchased this mower from Home Depot a little over 3 years ago. Just as the 3 yr warranty expired, the drive belt broke, and became tangled in the Engine belt guide, which ripped from the crankcase cover, taking a piece of the crankcase with it, and dumping the oil. I understand that belts break, but when they do, it shouldn't destroy the engine in the process. This seems like a design flaw. I reached out to Honda, and they stated that the mower has no design issues. I won't be buying another.
