Can I put the twin blades on this mower?

Asked by: Mike
Yes you can. I installed the twin micro-cut system on my 21 inch Honda push mower. The cost was just under $28.

is the single speed honda as easy to push with self propelled drive disengaged as the honda push mower without the self propelled feature.
Asked by: abd456
Yes. I have had mine for nearly a year and push mine most of the time and only use the propelling for hills. I like this mower a lot but be aware that it isn't light.

Customer Reviews

21 in. Single Speed Gas Walk Behind Self Propelled Lawn Mower is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 115.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Schizophrenic Honda Make no mistake this is a fine mower. It performs beautifully and mows and handles as well as one could want. It has a superb engine that usually starts on the first try. It is light and reasonably maneuverable. It does however have some features that reek of cheapness, especially for the price and limited features. Some of the parts and applications are downright cheap. The throttle is flimsy plastic and the cables are strapped to the handle by bundle ties. The wheel rims are plastic as well as certain non-stressed parts of the engine. I guess I'm old fashioned but it would seem that for this price level, it would have a bit more steel or substantial parts. Guess it was meant to be a throw away when it breaks down. In the meantime it does a super job on a modest sized lawn and i couldn't be happier with its performance. It pulls well up the inclines and dips in my yard and has made mowing so much less of a chore. I am so happy with it, I just hope it holds up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Honda Bought new in 1999 - yes: It hit it's 14th season. I replaced her today with a variable speed HONDA - because it was in stock, and $10 more. minuses: 1. wheels - I've bought a few. 2. belts: that was the reason I was at Home Depot - belt kept coming off because it is worn. 3. "things" in rear wheels were a problem on day one - I finally fixed those myself. 4. Cables: I've been through one set. pluses: 1. spark plug (original), 2. piicked up an extra carb because it was $30 and I was afraid it was going. 3. Deck: NO RUST after 13 seasons. 4. The overall shape of the mower could be described as "lightly used", even though it has been used well. 5. Started on second pull. 6. NO SMOKE - no white smoke at all. I do this at the end of every season on all power equipment: 1. Run it completely out of gas. This applies to two-strokes as well. At the beginning of the season: Change the oil after warming the engine up. Change the air filter

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great mower i bought this mower in late march i wanted to use it for a few months before i gave a review. i want to start with saying this honda mower does what it should, it mows the grass very well i wish everything every in life just worked. it is self propelled i am 52 and have no problem keeping up with it it starts on the first pull i have almost an acre with a steep little hill and i mow twice a week with no issues. the rear wheel drive was a little different but very easy to adapt to this thing is good on gas, easy to clean just use a garden hose. not a lot of bells and whistles you just turn on the fuel hold the blade control bar give it a pull and it starts hold the self propel bar down and your off. i had been using a craftsman self propelled with a 6.5 horse power briggs and stratton motor, the honda is lighter uses less gas mows cleaner, if you need a mower give this one a look, oh and the warranty seems good. i recommend this mower, i hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mower A fixed speed mower is the only mower that works well on steep slopes and the Honda HRS216 mower works extremely well. After replacing the low lift blade that came on it with a twin blade it also cuts extremely well. The engine starts first pull and doesn’t stall in high wet grass. This mower replaced a Toro self propelled fixed speed mower that lasted 40 years until the drive was so worn it would shear the drive shaft pins. Any mower made today isn’t likely to last 40 years as those days are gone. Most small engines on mowers today have an aluminum bore cylinder and doesn’t have an oil pump which my last the Toro did. That is one reason it lasted so long and it still runs to this day. This same mower also came with plastic wheels that never broke so plastic wheels are not a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honda Mower 1-speed Pleased with speedy delivery, ease of set-up, start on first pull, self-propels well up fairly steep slopes and very easy to operate, maintain and store. I have had a couple other brand mowers over the years but Honda is thumbs up THE VERY BEST. This single-speed, no-bagger is light weight and perfect for my needs. It does excellent job of mulching using one blade and leaves no "hay" rows to deal with. Of course, secret to care-free grass mulching is to mow only when grass is well dried, which also avoids clogging blade housing! No need to use the provided side-discharge unless perhaps grass somehow got extra tall and/or is not dry enough, in which case side discharge is big help. It has option to use 2 blades if you prefer. For me, one-speed self-propelled, no bag, single blade AND in-line fuel shut off are most appreciated. THANK YOU HONDA and HOME DEPOT!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Uneven Quality This mower starts easily and runs great. It mows beautifully and climbs inclines and dips with ease. It handles deep grass very well. Unfortunately, it has some cheap plastic parts which are unexpected on a mower of its price. The throttle is a flimsy plastic lever and the cables are attached with bundle straps. Certain non-stressed parts on the engine are plastic. I have had "cheapo" mowers in the past that seemed more substantial. While I can't fault how it performs, it does seem that Honda tried to see how little they could give you for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This mower is a right fit for a residential homeowner lot. As of this review, I have used the mower 6 times cutting thick S.E. Texas St. Augustine grass. The machine has one pull starting and plenty of power. I use both side discharge and mulch capabilities and satisfied with each mode. The rear wheel drive (RWD) provides good traction. Being light weight, I can manuver this machine easily in tight areas while the RWD is not engaged. My recommendation of this product is based on initial performance only. Ask again in 10 or 15 years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Mower I have used this mover 5 times on my .75 acre lot. The mower runs well and only gets bogged down when mulching very thick and damp grass. Has a good speed on the self propelled motor but can be cumbersome to push manually. My only con is when working in tight spaces it does not move backwards well. The rear flap is very ridged and actually pops the back tires off the ground when it is going backwards. Then when pushing forward it brings them off the ground again and can not propel it self forward. I guess this is a safety feature but seems very annoying to me when using.
