I was excited to upgrade to a new mower and selected Honda for all the convenient items. The mower is designed well, mows grass easily and mulches efficiently even in high grass. The overall product is well made but over priced for what you get overall. I specifically bought it for the Nexite Deck that won't rust over time. The reason for my score being mediocre is because of the cheap wheels. It should be put in the advertisement do not for mow against a wall or curb as the sides of wheels will tear and the rubber fall off the plastic hub. I have had my mower two years and for the $700 I paid now have to buy new wheels because Honda customer service said I scraped a curb or wall and that is why the rubber comes off the wheels aren't defective. I had written them a year ago about the rubber coming off the side walls in strips and they said I would have to take it to a Honda dealer for assessment to determine if they wheels should be replaced. Now they say the warranty doesn't take care of this as it is my fault for scraping the sides. So if your yard is open and no curbs or walls and nothing to scrape the sides of the wheels it should be a very good mower otherwise look for something else or be prepared to have to buy new wheels often.

After 16 years with my current Honda I upgraded to an electric start for this retired guy. Starts great but only in use a few weeks. I was surprised by the extra weight 102 lbs , 19 lbs heavier than my previous Honda because of the electric start functionality. But that is why you also need the hydro transmission with this puppy. I gave my 16 year old Honda mower away. It still was useable but needed that pull to start and a glug of oil each time. Not a bad record for Honda. I expect this one to last just as long. The tires only last about 10 years as I had to replace those (bald) on my older version...)
Did receive this mower via UPS drop shipment. The unit was damage free but could have used extra packaging on the ends to keep the unit from shifting in the box.

I love this machine. It feels like you're mowing with a precision instrument. My only complaint is that the gas tank is too small: only about 2/3 the capacity of the one in my old John Deere walk-behind. As a result, I have to refuel the Honda before I'm done with the lawn...something I never had to do with the Deere. Oh, well, I can live with that.

Product in itself is great, 4* for that - the missing * is for lack of blade speed, it could be more resounding.
1) It is manifest that they delivered me a returned product that was a bit dusty for a boxed item.
2) It came in leaking oil in my garage that I am preparing to epoxy. You who know knows what I meant, soaping that off - motor was not supposed to have oil in it in the first place!
3) Moreover or worse of, product was dropped off with a bent handle that I had to take to a local HD to be bent back. The bend was so severe that it caused local crack at pivot, which in the long run will cause failure at which point I will be out of warranty, if I get to keep it as is.
4) Package box looks beat up and aged as seen on attachment.
5) Came with only one key, and I don't think that's right - even a $5 lock comes with 2 keys.
My neighbor suggests that I return the product then take my chance and order a new one - which I believe I will after I consume off all my gas in the tank.
As long as Home Depot stops sending people crappy returned products like that, I would recommend purchasing this product.

The Honda walk behind lawn mower is a beast. I've put this thing through the paces since last September and the Honda has never failed me. The model I purchased is HRX217HZA, electric start. I know, some of you old fashioned foks love your pull starts, but hey, I'm the 'whatever makes your life easier' kinda guy! Electric start baby!
I purchased the Honda after owning a Lawnboy for about a year and a half. My poor Lawnboy still serves me, but it couldn't pass muster when it came to tall grass. My property is pretty large ( 13 acres) and yeah, there's a lot of grass, lol! But before you ask, uh, no I don't mow all 13 acres with a push mower, but some days it does seem like that, lol! Selective mowing baby, selective mowing, and power to the meadow!
This model has a neat feature that allows you to keep the mower running even with hand's off the handle bars, but, wait! there's more! There is a safety feature built in that stops the blade when you release the handle bars, but keeps the engine idling - saving drain on the battery for a restart AND saving the back from the pull cord, lol! I love it! It's great for when I'm emptying the clippings - unhook the bag, empty it clip it back on and keep on mowing. The blade start handle and powered wheels handle does take some getting used to, but it's a small learning curve.
One thing I did not like too much is the gas tank opening - I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm always overfilling, lol! Either I'm a fool and filling too fast or the gas tank opening needs a redesign to make no-spill refilling a reality. *Hint *Hint, Honda engineers!
The double blades are great and chops the grass small - makes for more and better compacting of clippings for the bag. Some folks have criticized the handle for being a tad long - and I do see that, the handle to body is longer than I'm used to seeing versus other brands. But I think this was designed to make maneuvering the beast easier - cuz the Honda is a bit on the heavier side, but man it is a beast!
This thing handles tall grass with ease and if you see my photos below, I've chomped through end of season goldenrods and tall grass and keeps on going! The high density composite plastic deck (Honda marketing calls it by some other lingo) is a breeze to clean. And no rust! So far, it's kept to the hype, this thing has chomped through tall almost pencil-thick goldenrod stems and both the composite deck and dual blades are in fantastic condition.
Puppy dog sure loves the 'secret path' mown through the tall grass !
TLDR; a beast of a machine - chomps through tall grass with ease, composite deck is easy to clean and does not rust, dual blades cut finer grass clippings for better compaction and composting

Work perfect straight out of the box. The battery actually came with enough charge to get it running. Doesn't really bog down at all going through high grass even if it's wet within reason. The hydrostatic drive works great, instant go. The height adjustments are nice and solid which is the main reason I bought this one, all my other ones seem to fail or break way to soon. I have learned my lesson on trying to save money. Buy the best the first time and you will save in the long run.

Lawn mower handle frame of poor construction
Due to very poor materials and construction the handle frame bends under its own weight so that you can not unfold the handle bars from its storage position. I went through three of these mowers within less than a month time frame. The first two became so damaged so easily the lawn mower practically had no use at all. The third one did better but I had to send it back too because the handle frame became twisted clockwise with the right side being an inch lower then the left under hardly no use too. The features are nice but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the construction of it in its present form probably couldn't survive moving it from one location to another intact. Buyer beware.

Had previously owned the HXA model for 11 years and was extremely satisfied with it. Purchased this model the HZA which is basically identical but has the electric start. Would recommend the Honda mowers as they are very reliable and simple to use and upkeep!

Easiest hand mower I have ever had!
Opened the box, connected the handle, added the oil and started it. I really like the feature of NOT having the blades turning when I am moving from one lawn to the next. I had another brand mower that I needed to empty the basket three times per lawn. Now, I only need to empty the basket once per lawn and the basket comes off and goes back on very easily. The variable speed drive wheels should be standard on all mowers. This really is the easiest hand mower I have ever had! Well worth every penny!

great shopping experience
I went shopping online to buy my daughter (a new homeowner in another state) a lawnmower for her birthday. The preferred brand name led me to Home Depot and I easily found what I was looking for. I was concerned about paying online for an item to be delivered to another person in another state, so I phoned the store near where she lives. The man was courteous and helpful so I asked jokingly, “And do you also gift wrap?”
After a pause he spoke, “If you could give us a heads up after it is delivered, we could probably come up with something.”
A week later I was notified by email that the merchandise was delivered to the store. I called and talked to a different employee. This one also served me with enthusiasm and helpfulness. The picture shows the result. My daughter was delighted. I was also very pleased. The people of Home Depot really do take the customer’s needs seriously.
