Answer This Question

A:  Yes and no. I connected 1/2” pex around the drain fitting by heating it with a heat gun until it would expand enough to go over the drain fitting and then used a hose clamp to secure it. I also then added a shut off valve a few inches behind the machine because the directions said not to operate in heat mode with the drain open. To be able to tighten the clamp I had to cut out the part of the rear cover just below the drain fitting. You may or may not want to do that as I have no idea how that would effect the warranty. I have not tried running the unit with the valve open but only needing to turn a valve to drain the unit really simplified the draining. Also keep it mind that the more humidity the unit pulls out the cabin the less frequently you will need to drain it

Wouldn't cool after the first 12 months
The unit wouldn't cool after the first 12 months. Honeywell was no help. Home Deport was no help and now they have discontinued the unit. The unit was upstairs in a converted attic space and used every so often. We determined it cost use about $50 every time we turned it on. Not happy!

Used the unit to cool a back bedroom where the sun shines. Worked well. Used the unit to heat my 30' Fifth-wheel. The weather was raining and so the unit required regular draining of water, but the heat function does not allow continuous draining. Also, kept temp. about 68 when it had thermostat set for 61. Unit does take time to finally turn on when temp. is cold.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to you because of this unit. When you are using the portable air conditioner in heat mode, the exhaust hoses must vent outside the room.
This unit uses Heat-Pump technology which reverses the air conditioning cooling cycle by
transferring heat from the outside into the room – this is more energy efficient than traditional
electric heaters that generate heat instead of transferring heat into the room. These properties
make this heater ideal for use in autumn or spring when outdoor temperatures are not severely
cold, or as supplemental heating in colder rooms of your home.
When heating mode is selected the indicator light will shine. Heating is activated only when
the ambient temperature is below 25°C (77°F). In this mode, the desired temperature can be
set between 16°C- 25°C (61°F - 77°F). The Heat pump draws moisture from the air which then condenses into the internal water tank. The unit will pause operation when the tank is full and will restart when the tank has been emptied.
It is recommended to use the heating mode in a room with 50% humidity or lower. Avoid operating moisture-producing products or appliances such as a humidifier or a kettle when using the unit in heating mode.

Carefully measure your space. Between the length of the vent hose and the extension cord, finding an effective space for the unit is challenging. I had to purchase additional equipment to use this unit productively

Just got mine 3 weeks ago. Works as expected. Cools down my 600 square feet room like a champ. Normal like all portable units drain water every so often. Heat works on point as well. Fan is amazing It’s a hair louder then I expected but what AC unit isn’t loud. It’s worth the price. They could add a longer vent hose I mean another foot makes a big difference.

Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear you're satisfied with the performance of our Honeywell Portable Air Conditioner, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. Like any other electrical device, this unit will create some sounds when operating, due to the powerful compressor working to cool the space you need it to. The length of the exhaust hose is determined, keeping in mind the amount of air it can expel. We do not recommend lengthening it. You could place the unit on a raised surface, if the hose does not reach the height of your windows. please feel free to get in touch with our customer support team at usinfo@jmatek.com for any other assistance or query. It is spring time now so there has not been a high demand for heating or cooling but I did run the temperature up one day to help relax the curve in your office chair, floor mat, and it made the room toasty, rather quickly. Be aware that the heater has a condensation drain plug separate from the ac drain and that it is not designed to have a drain line attached to it. You are expected to slide a shallow pan under the back and drain it into the pan to be carried away and dumped. I modified a fitting with tubing, a hose clamp and a shut off valve because apparently the drain is not to be left open while operating in heat mode. The ac/dehumidifier drain is much simpler. It is designed for a garden hose to attach. I still recommend the unit. Just a heads up in case (like me)you are planning a semi permanent insulation with drain lines run out to make operation simpler and not have to deal with the unit shutting itself off because the condensation tray is full.

            Good Performance But it Reeks!
When first installing, everything went well. I bought brand new from Home Depot and set it up with 2 cardboard pads below it to cover the entire box of the design (to keep it off the carpet). About a day after setting it up and using the air conditioning features (and setting the temperature to very low), I randomly had started smelling horrible odors coming from the vents. I had shut it off to make the smell to stop being emitted from the vents. It's unexplainable from where the smell comes from because It's brand new and the smell comes and goes when using it. It seems as if when you first turn the air conditioning part of it and the temperature is 76 for ex, when the desired temperature is 62 there is extremely good performance with cold air blowing out but as the temperature of the room meets the 62 it starts blowing out the horrible odors again.
