The Honeywell Elite Allergen is made of a reinforced pleated media designed to capture particles down to the micro particle level. The large surface area improves the efficiency of its dust-holding capacity. The unique construction of Honeywell Elite Allergen filters requires less energy for lower energy cost. Its electrostatic charge helps attract particles “magnetically” that otherwise would pass through. Housed in a recyclable clay-coated moisture resistant frame, this filter captures particles as small as 0.3 microns. In comparison, a human hair is approximately 100 microns in size. The Honeywell Elite Allergen is effective against the following contaminants: dust/lint, airborne dust mite debris, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, bacteria, microscopic allergens, virus carriers, and most smoke and smog particles.
  • Filter performance rating (FPR): 10
  • Filters down to the micro particle level
  • Electro-statically charged
  • Heavy-duty moisture resistant frame
  • Lasts up to 90 days

Questions & Answers

What is the MERV rating of this filter?

Asked by: wantasthmahelp
The only honest thing to say is a higher number in the same rating system is better. Being in the same house for 24-years I will add this insight for whatever place you call home. Getting the evaporator cleaned is important. Using a 3M 1500 by experience or Honeywell's 8 or higher will keep that coil clean of dust bridges for years of more cooled air, better breathing, and maybe a longer coil life. One more note from my searching. Certain products like hair sprays, chemical cleaners used in the house, adhesives and new carpets, all things of high out-gassing and smelly air... will attack the coils and induce corrosion which can lead to leaks and diminished cooling... shorten expensive evaporator coil life. Use of a better filter, and using fan driven fresh air only while work is being done... will add otherwise denied life to the evaporator coil. Now you know why new home HVAC units typically don't last as long as the next unit. Going between rating systems; some marketing rep (perhaps former used car sales man) from Honeywell says it is a MERV 13, it is worthless hyperbole until Honeywell formally rates and labels the filter MERV 13. That goes for 3M. I will add this challenge... to buyers: Look at the filter in person and compare it to a competitors product of the same or greater price. Buy what you are willing to spend for the quality you think you are going to get. I think 3M's filter at 2400 is better than anyone else's, and it may even be a great idea during flu season. Otherwise I'm not out to spend $25 for one and Home Depot is 2-miles closer and $5 less expensive.

Bought these because they are somehow better than the "BEST" grade filters. Pro: seems to filter very well Con: so restrictive (even new) that the furnace doesn't run They probably stop a lot of allergens, but so would a large square of cardboard. Immediately after installing this, my furnace (and consequently my thermostat) began rebooting dozens of times per hour. These were choking the furnace to the point where it was flowing so little air, the thermal cut off sensor was being tripped. The furnace would then cool down and start over again in an endless loop. Took this out, put it a mid grade filter, everything is fine again.

Yes , this filter did cost much more than those cheap blue ones that cost like " 10 filters for $5.00!!!!! However if you look very closely to this filter's packing , you'll notice 4 numbers that are #4, #7, #9 , # 10 , I usually get the #4 , but after looking, and reading each numbers strength, & weaknesses, I decided to try the #10 because of my allergies, asthma, and dust control, along with a long list of things that the other three didn't trap in the filter.it hadn't been in but just over two weeks but I can already tell a difference when I wake up in the morning my eyes aren't blood shot from rubbing them during the night, therefore I'm sleeping better..other conclusions will come in time....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Healthy Life Happy Wife Very happy with Honeywell pleated filters. Typically use the filter down from Elite. Thought I would give it a shot. Works great. I've noticed minimal dust on the surfaces compared to other brands that allow much more dust and garbage through them. Nothing better than breathing more pure air.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good item bad shipping The product is great and we can tell a difference in the air quality in our home because of these filters. Giving three stars because our box arrived bent and then so were the filters. Shipping to store next time to avoid this problem.

I suspect I'm not the only person to NOT find 20x20x4" filters that HomeDepot used to stock and ended up buying these 1" filters instead, thinking that's what we were supposed to do. DON'T DO THIS. If you were using 4" thick filters you'll find the 1" filters do not have adequate stiffness when they load up with dirt to maintain their shape. After 2 months mine ended up going concave and then pulling out of their slot down into the ductwork, totally failing to filter. The 4" Honeywell filters don't have this problem. If you don't see the 4" filters on the shelf DON'T buy the 1" instead but go to the desk and ask for the 4". In this review I'm marking the filter down for a wrong application, but it's an easy mistake to make that HomeDepot isn't helping you to avoid. Further, needing to replace the 1" filters every two months vs. 6-9 months for the 4" is a hassle.

Unlike Filtrete, these filters are not true to size. I had to shim every one of them to fit standard returns. Otherwise, they fall and rise whenever unit comes on, making an annoying racket. I could understand this cost-cutting measure on an economy filter, but these are supposed to be their best. I will not be buying Honeywell again.
