After a couple years, lines of pixels have started going bad. Front plastic face plate is glued on and has started to fall off. Poorly made. Since warranty is only one year Honeywell is only willing to apologized for my inconvenience.

          Disappointed in the temperature swing
I was anxious to have a talking thermostat with a choice of pretty colors and all the other fancy options. As my furnace did not have a common wire, I had to hire someone to install this for me. I tried hooking up as the instructions mentioned with the fan power, but that didn't work for me. This thermostat does everything promised and has so many cool features - except the one feature that matters to me - the temperature swing. I was disappointed with the temperature swing since I have always had a thermostat with the option of controlling it. With all the bells and whistles in this unit, I could not believe that there is no option to change it. After so many years of having the temperature kept at a constant temperature, it was difficult to accept waiting until it got cold, then warming up too much. I got tired of trying to constantly tell the thermostat to change, so I uninstalled it and put my old one back in the next day. This thermostat has many features that most people would enjoy, but the comfort of a steady climate is more important to me than all the other things it can do.

Voice control is not as versatile as it could/should be
We got this thermostat to replace a Honeywell 9580 wifi thermostat as we liked the voice control concept. We use the thermostat to control a gas/electric roof mounted package unit. The voice control is actually quite limited and doesn't perform the most obvious task of allowing you to switch the heat or air conditioning on when the thermostat is in the system 'off' setting and vice versa. The voice commands are limited to temperature changes once the cool or heat system mode is already on which seems unnecessarily limited. I also felt that the build quality on this particular unit was not up to the same standard as our Honeywell 9580 model that it replaced. The touch screen display is a press fit onto the backplate (the backplate is screwed to the wall). The screen module on this thermostat has a much 'sloppier' fit and it doesn't take very much pressure to get the display module to pop off the backplate which could be a problem if you have children as it would be easy for them to accidentally separate the two parts and render the a/c, heating inoperable, even when its running. This isn't a safety hazard to the children as the thermostat has low voltage, however it may damage the heat/ac unit if it is stopped mid cycle. The backplate/display fit on our 9580 was much tighter and requires a sensible amount of pressure to separate the two halves. I did re-examine the backplate to see if I could see any obstructions that were stopping it from seating properly but there weren't any obvious ones and there was a 1/16" gap between the two parts when pressed fully home which isn't there on the 9580 model. Installation was straightforward, however if you're upgrading or replacing an existing Honeywell wifi thermostat, it is advisable to de-activate your existing wifi thermostat using Honeywell's Total Connect app or website. We used the website for this where selecting the 'Control Center' tab allows you to delete a thermostat from your account without having to delete your Total Connect account and re-register. The process of deleting a thermostat isn't very well covered in the user manual. Once installed it is very easy to connect to the wifi and connect to your Total Control account. Since we had already set up the screen color to match our decor on the "older" 9580 model, this process was easy to repeat. When you're setting up the voice control, the basic command is 'Hello Thermostat' however the thermostat tends to chirp up when other words are used. There is a 'sensitivity' setting which allows you to control how well it "hears" and turning this down will stop the commentators in a Sunday afternoon NFL game causing your thermostat to wake up and expect a command. Our flat screen TV is wall mounted about 12' from the thermostat and since Troy Aikman and Joe Buck managed to wake our thermostat up on a couple of occasions, expect to play with the sensitivity setting to avoid these accidental activations! Since we live in So Cal, we tend to have our a/c and heat switched off most of the time, however one of the most frustrating omissions from the voice control is the ability to switch the System Mode from Off to Heat or Off to Cool. This still involves a walk to the touch screen, or grabbing the nearest mobile phone and launching the Apple or Android Total Connect App if the short walk to the thermostat is too much! If you try commands like 'Switch System to Heat' or 'Switch System to Cool' which seem to make sense, it will just reply that "the setpoint cannot be changed in the current mode". When you want to adjust the temperature up or down, the thermostat appears to work well for this, and the device has 4 basic commands it can understand: 1 - Make it warmer/cooler 2 - Make it much warmer/cooler 3 - Make it [n] degrees warmer/cooler 4 - I'm feeling hot/cold We tend to use the third one most. During set up, the screen will display a message advising that the thermostat will record the phrases you use after the words 'Hello Thermostat' and transmit them to Honeywell so that they can improve the voice dialog over time. It's worth remembering this if you get frustrated and swear at it as some poor soul in product development at Honeywell may hear you venting! While the shiny black finish is neat (and better than appliance white), we actually preferred the silver finish of the bezel on the 9580 model as it seemed a little more discrete and it's a shame that you can only get this in black at present. Another issue with the current version of the voice control is that (according to the user manual) it only understands English language commands, so for anyone hoping to communicate with their thermostat en Espanol, this is not currently for you. Since we we're replacing an existing Honeywell wifi thermostat, the process of upgrading was straightforward and the wiring layout remained the same as well as the location of the screw holes in the wall. I had a frustrating time locating the Total Connect app in the Google Play store for my Android phone, so when you're adding the app the best bet is to scan the QR code on the inside front cover of the User Guide and this should help you avoid downloading the Honeywell Home Security app by mistake as I did. I found that the compatibility with both Apple and Android phones was excellent and we often use the smartphone app to switch our heating or air on when we're heading up the road to our home from a shopping trip, after work or from a restaurant. It is also very easy to set up and change a heating/cooling schedule using either the PC or smartphone app or the touchscreen. In summary, the build quality on our particular unit could have been better, the current range of voice controls is a little limited however the wifi function is excellent and makes it very easy and convenient to use and control via your Apple or Andoid smartphone or tablet or your PC.

          Easy setup and great control
I installed this thermostat when putting in a new split furnace system. The installation of the thermostat itself was straightforward and well explained in the instructions. The device connects to your network during the initial setup and then requires online registration with confirmation email (so make sure you can check your email) to complete installation. The appearance of the thermostat is sleek and the background color can be easily customized. Voice control is well done. The one negative for me is not having preset scheduling in the app (i.e. switch to Vacation mode with lower heat and higher cooling temperatures).

          Innovative Thermostat
Honeywell has developed an all in one home climate command center. With its wifi capabilities, it brings the best of both worlds together to work seamlessly. Thermostat Pros -Amazing Full Color Touch Screen -Large Icons/ Display Layout -Voice Activated Commands -Wifi Connectivity (App, displays outside temperature) -Easy Install Thermostat Cons -Voice Commands can be slow, dependent of internet connection (Personally have a higher speed that most) -Voice Commands have to be the exact phrase to work (takes a little practice, but very nice when you get the hang of it) -The quality vs cost comes in a little cheap, the thermostat is light and a little bulky for my liking -No motion sensor to turn screen on/off as approach Smart Phone App Pros -Iphone/Android App to remotely control and monitor thermostat controls Smart Phone App Cons -Have to login each time, can save password, but still have to hit login Overall the thermostat is definitely an upgrade to any thermostat. Works great and looks great! Great for first timers who want ease and simplicity packed with features!

Very smart thermostat but too wide of heat range
This is a very full featured thermostat that looks and operates great. I will go over a few pros: Installation is easy. The installation videos available by Honeywell are so detailed and make so much sense anyone can install it. Connecting to wifi and to the website for remote controlling was a breeze. There is a lot of versatility in color options too. The voice commands work great and rarely are misunderstood. There are too many program options to list. If you want it, you can do it.... It has a 5 day forecast right on the display so you're always in the know on the weather. There is accurate humidity settings for both inside and outside as well as temperature information for the outdoors. I only have one con: There is too wide of a heat range with this thermostat. If I have it set to 68 degrees, it wont kick on the heat until its 66 and sometimes 65, then heats until 70 or 71 and shuts off. So you go from being too cold to being too hot in a matter of 15 minutes. I looked all over the display menu and owners manual to see if this could be adjusted and I could not find any answers. The Honeywell website did not have any info or an owners manual available online. I assume it's done this way to run the furnace longer and less frequently for increased energy efficiency. Over all it has been a great upgrade to my old one.

Honeywell Sets the Bar Even Higher
This Honeywell thermostat replaced a earlier Honeywell WiFi model I bought about a year ago. With my old thermostat I was excited about gaining Wifi control. Two models later and Honeywell has not only made the device more aesthetically appealing, but they have added a color display, many more options, and now voice control. This thermostat appears to be compatible with many different types of heating and cooling systems. The most important thing to note is that a C wire is needed to power the thermostat. Once you have everything wired up, the thermostat provides very clear menu guided instructions to get everything running the way you want. One thing that is not apparent from viewing the thermostat online is its size. This thermostat is thinner and significantly smaller than many previous models. The important thing to note is that the screen is nearly the same size. Honeywell packing in more technology while decreasing the bulky frame found on many other thermostats. I think the best thing about this thermostat is the insane amount of options it offers. You can adjust background and text color. You can set up a schedule for each individual day or numerous days. You can set a schedule for the fan. You can set a reminder for the filter. You can set it for a vacation. You can even set it for days you are going to come home late, early, stay home from work, etc. You can also set it based on peak energy prices of your utility company. Lastly, is the voice control. I have a 2,800 sq, ft. two-story home. I can use voice control from any where downstairs (except the garage) and that is without yelling. Voice control takes a few seconds but it has worked very well so far. I've found it most useful when cooking. There's no need to stop to turn up the AC, I just tell the thermostat I'm feeling warm and keep going. It's pretty awesome. Now comes the obvious, the price. This is probably one of the most expensive residential thermostats out. It looks good and does a lot. Personally I feel its worth it. Honeywell makes great products. I did contact them and suggested they expand the voice control options. Voice control for things like the time, outside temperature, and maybe even a weather forecast would really put this over the top. Nonetheless I highly recommend this thermostat.

          Excellent Talking Thermostat!
This thermostat is really awesome. And yes, it really does talk to you! She doesn't say much at this point but I'm hoping with updates she may say more in the future. The install was relatively easy. The book suggests watching the installation video online and I think it's a good idea as they walk you right thru it. If you have a heat pump system like me, the wiring will be a little different. There is a page in the book that tells you how to wire it for your system. The appearance of the thermostat is very sleek and attractive. It is smaller than my old one, so after I removed the old one, I did have to hunt around for matching paint for the wall area that would not be covered. It is programmable with wi fi capabilities so you can adjust it from anywhere if you go online. Also, it will tell you the temperature outside and the humidity. You can change the colors of the screen and fonts. There are soooo many different colors to choose! I took some pictures to try to show you the different pages for programming. (I have not removed the protective plastic yet.) It works like a charm and the voice command is awesome. If you don't want to talk to it or it goes off line for some reason, you can just use the touchscreen. I have set it to a schedule and so far it is dead on. No problems. I also believe it is more sensitive to the temperature than my old thermostat was. You can tell the thermostat to make it warmer or cooler or how many degrees to adjust. That is about the extent of the talking part. I really love it. Only one thing bothers me. It goes off line more than it should. I don't think it's my router because my other things stay online and I have a really good router. It still works and sticks to the schedule when it is off line but you can't talk to it and of course, you would not be able to access it away from. To fix it I end up having to go into the wi fi setup page and just search for my wireless connection and enter my password again. That puts it back online. Overall, I think it's pretty awesome and I bet with updates it will end up being perfect. I absolutely LOVE it and highly recommend it. Also it makes the house look more updated and in my case it matches better than the old clunky one.

I bought this thermostat for my husband when we moved to our new home. Installation was a breeze, the instructions were easy to follow. I was not thrilled about the price at first, but it is a top of the line Thermostat that was worth every penny. The voice control makes it so easy to manage temperatures and the mobile app is Amazing. I can manage the temperature from anywhere. I definitely recommend this product to anyone.
