Answer

Hi Gary, thanks for your question. The ideal location for the Honeywell Home Powered Flow-Through Whole House Humidifier is on the warm air supply, but it can be mounted on the return duct. Keep in mind that you might not get optimal humidification. When the humidifier is installed on the return duct, the by-pass duct should run to the supply. Hope this helps! Feel free to give us a call at 1-800-468-1502 if you have any additional questions or concerns and we'll be happy to help.

Yes. A humidistat is included in the box; the humidistat must be installed for the unit to function properly

will this or any humidifier cause any problems with my duct work

Asked by ray October 18, 2019

No because it doesn't do anything like force water into the air or duct like some kind of mister unit, it like all units let the air evaporate and carry the water in the air. Although some people notice some of their hard water minerals around the area of the humidifier. Virtually everywhere is hard water in our world to some degree, I think every humidifier should have installed an inline water scale filter, these are sold for evaporative coolers at common home improvement stores although some only in the summer. I don't recommend this humidifier whatsoever, this flow through design consumes around 6,000 gallons of water a year dumped down the drain it terrible and also a good amount of electricity for it's strong internal fan to force the air plus it doesn't humidify as much as a bypass has the power of the furnace blowing though it! I recommend a non (water) flow through so instead a bypass rolling drum design. Desert spring makes one with a multi disk plastic drum that never needs replacing like a foam does and also scale does not stick much to it instead falls to the bottom till you drain it out at the end of the season. Take care

Probably will work fine. It IS very important to have a drain line functioning for this unit to work properly. (Same is true for all makes/models of humidifiers)

Install an affordable 1/4" water inline scale eliminator filter sold for evaporative coolers in most home improvement stores although at some is only a seasonal item! Some humidifier makers sell their own exact material version of this filter (or it may be the exact same with their own brand label on it!).

The plug pulls straight out of the back connector. If you just open the front cover the plug will also disconnect. If you remove the front cover make sure the plug get re-connected after.

Honeywell HE365A 1006 whole house humidifier The unit came crashing down, leaving all six mounding screws still attached to the furnace. The plastic unit broke in all six mounting locations. Naturally past the warranty, but no doubt defective. Yet, despite the company's acknowledgment that this is an unusual circumstance, they also would not agree to replace the product.

Bought this unit a month ago. Right off the batt I noticed that if the unit had a demand for humidity it would work fine. The trouble was when it had to regulate the humidity at a certain point (say 43%), it would rapidly turn on and off causing the fan to go on and off and a loud clicking from the solenoid controlling the water valve. I would unplug the unit to let the humidity drop about 5% then turn back on until it reached the desired level and started clicking again. I emailed Honeywell and didn’t get a response until the second time emailing. The response was then do do a series of tests, which I did and submitted the results. The response was call the customer service number. Now two weeks in I call the number and was told someone would call me back. Two days later got a call and the tech wasn’t even concerned about what the problem was he just said take it back and exchange it. I took it all back apart, brought it back and got a new one. The new one is working fine (two days now) except for the humidistat needs to be at over 70% to keep the house at 45%. At this point I am just keeping it because I’m not sure if there is another option to fit in the holes I cut into my duct work. The unit is of fair quality, installation was pretty straight forward, customer service was horrible. I would not buy it again, but not sure if the other option is any better.

This Honeywell HE360A Humidifier replaces a very old Kenmore 3000 drum unit. The HE360 was the only forced air humidifier that I could find small enough to fit on my furnace duct, so I hope it works good this fall when I can finally run it. It appears to be well built and the internal fan was reasonably quiet when I tested the unit after installation was complete. I would suggest using the saddle valve to throttle the water input to the humidifier or there will be a significant stream flowing out of the drain tube. However, the solenoid does shut the water flow off completely when the unit is not running. The reasons that I could not rate this unit with five stars is because it is July and I will not know how well it works for several more months, and also because the instruction manual left much to be desired in terms of detail. Luckily there are good YouTube video's that helped (me) a lot.

Did not have room for a bypass and was battling space restrictions on all sides. This unit fit the bill and couldn't be happier. Cutting the hole sucks. I used tin snips, but would recommend a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. Had to silicone around the spots where there were gaps, but that was no big deal in the end. The only improvement I would make is to the pressure switch terminals. They are completely exposed and should be covered with either electrical tape or some protective masking. Also the PU tubing for the pressure switch could use some hose clamps. I had to get creative to ensure the tubing stayed on the elbow fittings. All in all, I'm not getting shocked every time a door handle is touched from static electricity. Would highly recommend.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. First unit, HE360, reasonable to install with mechanical knowledge and tools. Unit operated correctly for three weeks then stopped. Agent on warranty line provided case number and returned to store for replacement- no problem. Installed replacement- and this unit died in 11 days. Both appeared to suffer from overheating as the solenoid got so hot that the mounting plastic melted. This time the warranty agent provided the number for 'escalated customer service' rather than just suggesting installing a third unit. The customer service agent explained "she has never heard of these units failing so rapidly and in similar fashion, suggesting 120volt outlet must be providing too much current for the unit. They do not have the contractor support to investigate this claim and suggested I should have a contractor install another unit. I asked if Honeywell has changed their unit in response to complaints, and this was denied. Yet they have indeed changed the solenoid and changed the model designation to HE360a. I will be returning this second unit for a refund and seeking business elsewhere.

It took a few hours to install and online videos helped a lot. We have had about a 20% increase in humidity levels. The house is now around 45%. There is a noticeable difference throughout the entire house. Saw it on sale at another store and the Home Depot matched the price plus took another 10% off. Out the door under $200. Feat product it has worked well.

All parts needed to make this work came in the box, except for a hole saw needed for the pressure tubes. Easy install. Took me about 4 hours to do it because cutting the sheet metal in the duct took the most time, otherwise, install instructions are easy to follow and clear. There is a Honeywell video on how to install the unit that should be followed carefully more so than the manual that comes with the unit. Humidifier is working great, as air quality is much better now. The area it is humidifying is about 5000 sq ft. Highly recommended for any DIYer.

My experience with the product is as follows: Taking my time and being really picky how I installed everything start to finish was about 4 hours. I don't think this is long time, and if I was installing another one I would be much quicker. I found the written directions and 10 minute long dvd to be adequate to installing the unit. The one thing I didn't notice is that some of the parts weren't in the bags the I thought they would be in. My advice look in all the little parts bags before running down to the hardware store for the part you don't think is included in the kit, its probably in there some where. I mounted it to the supply side of my natural gas furnace. Everything went together well and worked (turned on, water ran, fan spun, etc...) My experience is similar to others on here that it really doesn't raise the humidity level in my home very much, maybe 10% at best, which is a disappointment. I will say that I have tapped this both into the hot water and cold water lines to see if that would make a difference, it did not. Both water temperatures resulted in about the same humidity level. One thought that I had was maybe my house wasn't big enough for the unit to work properly. My house is 1600 square feet. It doesn't take to long for my furnace to heat my house up. Now this unit is rated for a 4500 square foot home. If the furnace was trying to heat up a 4500 square foot home it might have to run longer causing the humidifier to run longer. I would be great if people that have problems with the unit not raising the humidity would specify their square footage. I do remember one review of a condo owner stating having trouble with his and the condo was 1500 square feet. Overall if this did what it was supposed to do it would be a slick little unit and easily worth the money. I really wish it worked better though.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We have a few things we recommend checking. First, does the water go through the distribution tray and drain out correctly? Second, confirm the distribution tray is secure in place and installed correctly. Third, check the "tightness" of the house. An open fireplace and ventilation can have an impact on humidity. This unit will only operate when the furnace blower/fan is on. Given your house heats up relatively fast, we suggest turning on the system fan/blower by itself to activate the humidifier more often. If you give us a call at 1-800-468-1502 we’d be happy to talk through this. We’re available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST on Saturday. and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST on Sunday. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Honeywell

Smooth Install & So Far So Good

I just installed the HE360 a few days ago so I can’t comment on reliability or various quality problems others have seen. So far it’s working great but I guess time will tell. I will comment on the install process which went very smooth. It was a BIG help that really everything needed to install the HE360 comes in the box. I have a “highboy” install in a very congested area so I had to be really careful not to ding the A/C coil or piping. Also it took a while to figure out which side of the furnace was best (the humidifier should blow air on the slope of the air conditioner “A”, not the part that looks like a triangle (see picture). Also forget the tin snips for cutting the duct opening – even if you have the patience and stamina, your chances of damaging the A/C coil are pretty high…. Do yourself a favor and buy the bottom of the line Dremel 200 (I paid about $60 for it plus the attachments I needed). With the Dremel I easily (and neatly) cut the required opening. And as a bonus the kids thought the sparks were cool. The duct template that came with the HE360 was spot on, but be sure to check before you cut. After making the cut-out you need to drill (6) mounting holes. I used the duct scrap as a “shield” to protect the A/C coil from damage when “punching through” the duct. After that the rest of the physical install was easy. I sealed all around the unit with high-temp aluminum duct tape – probably not needed but looks like a more professional job. I had no issues mounting the pressure switch or taps. I have all fiberboard so didn’t need the rubber bulkhead fittings – just poke a hole the right size and insert the plastic elbows (and secure with more of that aluminum tape). As others have said the wiring info provided is a little unclear. The diagram in the manual shows a transformer, but the DVD provided clearly states the HE360 does not need one. The instructional DVD was basic but helpful btw. It doesn’t matter which wires (red or white) go on which terminal for the pressure switch. At the humidistat attach one red to each of the black wires connected to the stat, then connect the two whites together (you will have a total of 3 wire nuts in the humidistat). Again, the order the the red-black connections doesn’t matter. Also I mounted the stat in fiberboard so again just cut the hole, stick it in, and secure with tape no mounting screws needed). One note on the drain connection: my A/C & furnace condensate drain is all piped with ¾” ABS black plastic pipe. Fittings for this are not generally available in smaller than 1.5” size, but CPVC fittings are very close dimensionally (not PVC), so I just tee’d into the ¾” ABS using a CPVC tee and couplings and CPVC cement. So far, no leaks.... All-in-all the install went very smoothly. If you enjoy a project and have some basic mechanical/electrical skills, this was a good one.

Great humidifier with a weak link.
I purchased and installed the HE360 5 years ago. No issues with the installation and it has ran perfectly since. One item I highly recommending upgrading is the water supply line. The pvc line overtime will dry out and fail. Ours failed recently where it connects to the solenoid and we came home to a flooded basement. I recommend upgrading the supplied water supply line to the 10 ft. Braided Stainless Steel Hose with compression fittings when you initially install the humidifier. This upgrade will provided you years of peace of mind.
