Questions & Answers

How does this work when the power goes out?

I understand the detector is battery powered but it sounds like it relies on a wifi connection for alerting. I don't understand how this is going to work in when the power goes out and the wifi goes down. Is there an audible alarm as well?
Asked by: Jeff
If power goes out then your wifi will be out and you won't have access to the unit. I installed a stand by/backup generator in my summer home in Maine figuring I'd lose power at some point this winter losing my heat etc.

Can you use multiple units on the same account?

Asked by: Randy
Yes, the detectors will have different names on the network so if you have a leak upstairs as opposed to the basement, you will know which area has a leak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Quick Install Within 5 minutes i had this up and running. Run off of battery and does not need to be plugged in. Install the app for IOS or Google play. Install batteries and follow the instructions. It can alert you via app or email if a temperature or humidity falls out of your selected range. You can set the paramters for both so you can adjust to your settings. Great for basements that are prone to flooding or even under sinks. You can lay the unit itself on the floor or if you are tight on space it comes with what looks like a headphone cord which acts as a sensor itself. So you can hang the unit and use the cord to touch the area you want to sense. You can even just lay the unit itself on the floor. You dont need the cord but i used it so i dont misplace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple. Works Pefectly. This device works perfectly and is incredibly simple to get up and running. You do have to install an app on your phone or tablet, and you will also need to make an account. After that, just plug batteries into the device, pair the device to the app, and you're up and running! It detects the temperature and humidity and also checks for leaks. If a leak is detected the device beeps loudly and also notifies you via email and also via app notification. You can also designate multiple email addresses to contact. You can also set up the device to notify you if the temperature and/or humidity exceed a specified range. For example, you can be notified if a room reaches freezing temperature. Or too high of a humidity. My only tiny complaint about the device is that you can only take temperature readings once, twice, or three times per day. I would have liked to be able to take readings much more often. Overall it works incredibly well and could not have been easier to set up. I would definitely recommend this device to a friend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't connect to 2 different 2.4GHz routers I don't know what may be peculiar about my wi-fi router installation and my neighbor's, but I cannot get the detector to connect to any wi-fi router. It finds the various wi-fi options per the Iphone app. The app prompts me for the password. I'm sure I'm entering the right password. I tried numerous times, but I keep getting a failure to connect. It warns me to check for Internet service or if my password is incorrect. I used my Iphone's wireless to open up the Honeywell Lyric information page successfully, all the while standing just 10 feet away from the router. I tried resetting the device by placing a paperclip end on the reset button. But the problem persists. Same issue when trying to set up at my neighbor's. Since I can't get the device to communicate to either of two routers, it can't do what it's supposed to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm Ready for the next time.....!!! About 2 years ago we had company over, One of the kids had used the first floor toilet and clogged it causing it to overflow directly into the finished basement, Running un-noticed for almost 3 hours filling the 1200 sq. foot basement with about 6 inches of water and ruining everything from the ceiling to the floor..Totaling almost 24,000$ in damage.... . The point is that a simple dependable unit like this would would have prevented probably 95 % of the damages from occurring, I've seen much cheaper units, But wanted something dependable from a trusted name like Honeywell, That would notify me as well as others if I wasn't home that something was going on. As long as you have an I Phone or Android you can give yourself the protection you need from not only flooding but freezing as well as excessive Humidity changes. Set up is very simple and takes less than 5 minutes on your. phone....There's also an independent audible alarm built in as well.... which is pretty loud and I could easily hear it on the 1st floor from the basement, Its solid and can be wall mounted using the included sensor or just laid on the floor near a problem area.... Well worth the money,, Think of it as an insurance policy you only have to pay for once

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind Water and freeze sensor! My condo has a habit of loosing power, I have a 2hp water pump and a water powered backup pump. Still I always worry when it rains. Having a Wifi leak sensor makes life a little easier. Honeywell Lyric is a WIFI connected platform that simplifies home comfort, Water leak detection - my last leak cost my insurance $5000 in damage, I like being notified of a water leak while it's measured in drops rather then feet. Battery operated I don't have the additional worry of the power going out. This unit has mobile and audible alerts - notifications and/or text messages can alert me, wherever I am, while audible alerts sound when I'm at home. Temperature and humidity sensing - use to detect temperatures that can freeze pipes, and humidity that could damage valuables. Reusable - this device is reusable even after detecting an incident. Connects to standard Home Wi-Fi directly - no need for an extra hub. Very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One glaring omission The sensor was very simple to get set up. I downloaded the app for my iPhone and created a user account via the iPhone app. After confirming my email address, and supplying physical address and a location name I was able to link the sensor to my iPhone. Syncing the two together went flawlessly. The app found the sensor, and connected to my WiFi network without problem. (tip: do NOT install the sensor batteries until you are prompted to do so. If you install them too early the sensor goes in to a sleep mode to preserve the battery and will need to be reset to sync). The sensor takes 3 AA batteries, which Honeywell claim will last up to 3 years in its most conservative mode (seeing temperature and humidity readings once a day). At its most 'talkative' when sending these readings 3 times a day you can expect 1 year of battery life. I'm curious as to why there is no way to hook up an external power supply. The only method to power this is to use batteries. This seems like a glaring omission to me. I'd like the option to power by an AC adaptor, and thereby increase the amount of daily readings, and remove the limitation of the sensor only checking for leaks every minute. The device has two probes on the back that can be led flat on the floor to sense water, it also has a wire probe that can work in tandem to sense areas the probe is place in. Each wire probe is 4 feet long, and they can be connected together in a chain to form a longer lead. The sensor alarms along with the alert on your smartphone. So anyone who is in the location but does not have the app will know there is a problem. To preserve batteries, the sensor comes alive every minute to sense a leak or freeze. With a water well, pressure tank, and related ancillary plumbing in my well house, they sensor will keep an eye on an otherwise unmonitored part of my home. This is yet another IoT (internet of things) device that requires its own application. I'd like to see HoneyWell link this to the HoneyWell thermostat application and other IoT apps.

It worked by hooking up to my wifi for the first month or so then it went off line and now refuses to hook up to the internet. I have phoned customer support and they are very nice to deal with but just keep reading the same steps over and over again with no difference in the final result. They even sent me a new one but it does exactly the same as the first one. It will not hook up to the internet Honeywont App to notify you of a leak. What use is this? I have researched the web and reset my router and other items work with my router, but not Honeywont water leak detector. Do not buy this item. You will be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice This was easy to set up. First get the app loaded as this is controlled by app so you will not need a home hub etc. After you have the app loaded and batteries installed connecting for me went fairly quick , connecting to my wifi was also a snap , but make sure you know your password if it's necessary . Configuring and alarm set up goes quickly through the app , you do need to know high and low parameters for temperature and humidity which can be updated any time using the app. The mobile alert was quick since its summer I put this in the freezer and it worked quickly . I'm not too sure how this will work for my application in a vacation home since it is only powered by batteries . I've had another system in a previous home that was USB powered with battery back up. The cable included is a sensor extension not a power cable. Thought since this unit is only battery powered you can use it where you might not have a power supply. Time will tell if this can truly used for my application but it seems to be doing the job. Having it be able to work with a home hub would be nice so it could also interact with other wifi items in your house.

I gave this 4 stars because I believe the product is 5 stars and the mobile alert function in a 3 star. When I have a water leak I want my phone to blow up vs get an e-mail which is what you get currently with the Lyric. The alarm on the physical Lyric device is very loud which is great but if I am not home an e-mail is not adequate warning that my basement is about to flood. When my home security system is tripped I get an e-mail, a text and a phone call (the phone call comes from the security system and not the Honeywell app). That said, I think Honeywell needs to improve the app interface such that when the Lyric detects an issue the app creates an alarm on the mobile device that immediately gets you attention. In all, it is a great product but the mobile alert function could be much better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Couldn't reset itself after an alert We set this up with no problem, and immediately got a humidity alert. We thought it was too low so we increased the percentage of humidity in the app. The humidity in our crawl space went up to over 90% (the parameters were set for 60/80 %) but we did not get an alert when it went to 92%. I worked with Honeywell's tech support, and they determined that in order for an alert to be sent for the 92%%, the WLD would have to first register a reading 6 points below 92%. If the humidity did not go down to below 86% then it would not reset, and it would not be able to send an alert. WHAT??? I'm assuming that the cold detection would also be the same (as my pipes freeze and burst). Also, we tested the water leak detection, by pouring a bit of water on the cord, and it worked well. Sent an alert via text and email, which was wonderful. However, there was no way to reset the app, or the device. I was able to silence the alarm, but not to reset it. The app didn't go back to detect cold or humidity. We dried the cord, and pushed a pin in the hole to reset the device, but then we were unable to get it to connect to bluetooth, and the process pretty much stopped there. It was no small feat to climb down into the crawl space to access the device, so we returned it to the store. If you have to climb down there every time to reset it, then it doesn't work for up. Very disappointed. It seems that this device is just not ready for primetime. Close, but not quite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sync perfectly with my Lyric This is the perfect addition to my Lyric system. I installed the water sensor in the basement in my utility room just in case my water heater or washing machine decides to leak. Setup was easy and I was shocked to find out that the batteries (which are included) last up to 3 years. I tested the system after I installed it with some clean water and it works well. I hope I will never have to use this but its a nice piece of mind knowing there is a back up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Insurance Against Water Damage This leak detector couldn't have been easier to set up or monitor. The unit runs on batteries so it's easy to get it into areas that are subject to leaking water but may not have an outlet readily available. I'm using this in my basement and the four foot sensor wire is enough to give me feedback on a utility sink and my washing machine. After the initial sync and setup we tested the unit and it responded quickly through both my phone and the unit itself. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is concerned with water getting in wghere it doesn't belong

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind My husband secretly believes that indoor plumbing is a bad idea because of the potential damage it can cause, and he loves the peace of mind this little gadget provides. We have it set up to notify both of us if water or cold temperature are detected. Setup was easy. Note that if you get a new router, you may need to re-do the setup of the Lyric. Also, you do NOT need a paid subscription or any other Lyric products for this to work. Not only does this sense water, but it also has a thermometer and notifies you when you cross temperature thresholds. We have a boiler (not a furnace) in an older home, and experience has taught us that numerous finicky things can cause the boiler to not turn on. If this happens while we're away, we can come home to a very cold house and a fear of frozen pipes. The great thing about this unit is that it will notify us while we're away if temps get below our set threshold, and we can call the plumber to come service our boiler so that we don't worry about pipes freezing. If you have finicky internet or wireless like we do, you will get periodic notifications that the unit has lost/regained connection - but the unit reconnects automatically and quickly with no intervention required (if you don't have finicky connections, these notifications might actually mean something important!). If the power goes out and your router goes with it, you can still hear the audible warning in the house if water or temp thresholds are detected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another slice of the "peace of mind" pie This was pretty easy to set up and sync to my phone. The required batteries are even included, nice touch. Download the app from Honeywell and follow the instructions, about 10 minutes from start to finish. I have this set up by my sump well because I have had a pump fail before and make quite a mess. If I would have had this device the problem would have been caught soon enough to save myself a lot of cleanup and potential damage. You can adjust the parameters such as the temperature and humidity sensitivity. It also has an audible alert so if something were detected just being in the house would be enough to alert someone that something is wrong.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can't setup with any of my Android devices Well it does sense water, so part of it works. But I tried to set it up using a Nexus 6P and a Motorola Xoom and neither worked. The 6P does not make the Bluetooth connection to set up the network info. The Xoom ssays a phone the Bluetooth LE is needed. The Xoom works with all the other Bluetooth devices I have. I am not sure why they choose Bluetooth as the way to set it up instead of wifi, but it seems to be a flaw. I did get it set up using an iPhone. Once set up from the iPhone it works fine. It report temperature, humidity and the presence of water. The water is sensed either by clicking contacts on the back of the unit or by a wire plugged I to it. The sensors on the back of unit just need water touching both of them. The wire needs just a small portion of it touching water . The app will alert you if the water sensor goes off or the temperature goes high or low or if the humidity goes high or low. Can also have it email more than on person too. It also keeps a history of the temp and humidity. Reading can be 1, 2, or 3 times a day. There is also a battery level indicator so you know when to change them. I have it in my garage, buy my old water heater so I can be notified when it starts leaking. I'm hoping future connection controls will allow you to turn a water supply off if a leak is sensed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Cool for the Tech folks! I am most impressed with the software and with the device! Very easy to set up and pair with the App on my phone. Just plug and play! It updates to my phone up to 3 times a day what the temp and humidity are in my basement. Then after it get several readings it starts graphing a chart to show trends over time! I can check the results even when I'm away since it updates via my wifi! I have not tested the water alarm but it is supposed to text me if the sensor gets wet, it comes with a 3 foot long sensor cable that can be extended with more sensor cables! This is I like it!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool device This is a very cool device which will not only detect water leaks but also monitors temperature and humidity. It's very easy to set up. It can be monitored using an app for your smartphone which shows you the current temp and humidity levels and charts it with daily graphs. You can set the temperature and humidity ranges on the app and it will send you an alert via email if they go out of their range. You can set the device on the floor or hang it on the wall and connect the included cable to it and run it on the floor to detect any water leaks.

I have a small leak in my boiler, but wanted to wait until Spring to replace it. So, I wanted a flood alert detector that would let me know if there is a problem whether I'm home or away. However, I didn't want a 'system' , just a water leak detector. After reading many reviews from various web sites, I discovered that these types of alarms have 2 problems: hard to set up and the wifi link failed so people didn't get notified when their places flooded. The Lyric was easy to set up and the data on the cell phone app (which takes 5 days after installation to see fully) reassures me that my system is on-line. Besides the app, I can add several email contacts for emergency notification - in case I'm not available. With product discounts, the $20 dollar or so higher price is worth it to have the daily reassurance on the app that it is on-line. I also enjoy seeing the temp and humidity readings.

This water detector from Honeywell is a good way to mitigate the amount of water and damage that it can do to your home or office. I had a great deal of trouble activating the system so I had another family member set it up for me. Once it was set up I tested it and it worked fine. It works on batteries so you have to make sure they don't go dead.
