What all is needed to complete?

Asked by: GrammarSue2
Hammer, phillips head screw driver, glue, poster paint and a few extra nails. The kit comes with the correct number of nails, but the challenge for the 4 year old is driving them straight

6 or 7 pcs of wood?

Just picked up 2 kits. Only have 6 pieces of. Wood. 2 ends, 2 big pcs (roof?), 1 medium pc (bottom?), 1 small pc (side?). Seems to be short a side in both kits.
Asked by: BobW
Yep, seven pieces needed: base, 4-sides and two for the top pitched roof. There should also have been instructions with a picture that shows how it all goes together.

One of the roof pieces on TWO out of five were a half inch short on the width! You can either nail it at the top, or on one of the sides and be short with a gap Oh, and the same one, the pre-drilled holes on the other roof piece are right in the middle of the board, nowhere near where you are suppose to nail it together. Haven't heard yet if the 5th one has defects. The one my son put together had all correct pieces, but we had to re-drill the pilot holes because the pre-drilled ones didn't match up.

I fail to see how using clear shrink wrap packaging without any instruction sheet could save enough to compel the manufacturer to opt for this horrible choice. Be forewarned, it did not come with any hardware. Since there was absolutely no text documentation or instructions of any kind I do not know if mine were just missing or it was intended. Judging from the poor shrink wrap, it was by design. It would have been nice to know when ordering since I ordered this on line as a gift and had to scramble to guess what I needed.

I ended up cutting new pieces to enclose it. I'm not sure what the purpose of this was, but I have not seen other bird houses built like this. I also used heavier nails. Upside, my Pre-K class enjoyed building it with me.

It might have been nice to include a square of sand paper (which it definitely needed!) and a few EXTRA nails. Honestly, a child is going to bend a few nails, or have one go flying off, etc. A couple extra nails would have been a good idea.

I was disappointed in this birdhouse because the side pieces are much shorter than the picture shows. It does not offer much protection for a bird from the weather or predators. My grandson enjoyed making the birdhouse, however the use as a birdhouse is questionable .

I don't know of any self-respecting birds who would be willing to inhabit this house! The opening on the sides of the house are much bigger than what is shown in the above picture, making it drafty, insecure from predators and, not to mention, hard to heat!
