Primary heat source
We use 4 of these to heat our 1939 home. We also have 3 rowdy boys. These have been put to a torture test, knocked over after running on high for hours, grills smashed in, January running nearly 24/7. After 4 years, we can start hearing a bearing in one fan. Will absolutely buy 4 new ones next season. If you aren't using them for primary heat, they'd probably last forever!

I SIMPLY LOVE IT!!!
it keeps me warm all night, even though i have a pretty big bedroom and it's freezing outside!!! It oscillates left and right to distribute the heat evenly!. I put the timer on before to go to sleep and I can be sure its gonna shut down. I've had this hunter heater for a month now and I couldn't be happier about it

I purchased this heater to take the chill of of my bedroom (extra large) and the other room was used in the kitchen and family room. The 24 inch worked very well. I am buying another one for upstairs. To me the best feature of this heater is if knocked over (I have two dogs, one with a heavy tail) it shuts down. I would not leave it unattended, things happen. It has been two years and I’ve been very satisfied with this product. My dogs lay in front of it on chilly days.

This is easily the BEST portable heater that I have ever owned. Not sure why I did not get one sooner but now that I have it, I realize how great it is & plan to purchase another for my office. It is ever so quiet, I love that it oscillates slowly, & the heat is ideal. It has a remote control which is definitely a bonus, & it can be set at any temperature you desire. I am absolutely delighted! Great value, Great product. Home Depot's price was more than competitive with other retailers.

I love that it has a thermostat. We left it on when the weather got icy, to keep our poorly insulated bathroom warm, and we didn't have to worry about the room getting too hot.

We bought this heater for one of our guest rooms, which is upstairs on the third floor of our home. Our house has a separate HVAC system for this floor, which is also where our master bedroom is. We rarely run the heat on this floor because it usually gets enough heat from the lower floors and we like it cool in our room at night when we sleep. Specific features I was looking for were size/shape, digital thermostat that allows setting the actual temp in degrees rather than just a dial with numbers, safety, and quiet operation.
The reason we bought this heater was because we generally keep the guest room door closed to keep our cat out of that room (otherwise she thinks that's another place she can sleep.) Since the door is closed it doesn't get any heat from the adjacent rooms and gets very cold in winter. If we have guests staying in that room they would get pretty cold as we never turn the main heat on at night.
The room is roughly 12x13, give or take and the heater has no trouble heating it efficiently. We put it on the nightstand in the corner nearest the windows and the heat spreads evenly throughout the room, even without using the oscillation feature. I'm fairly sure it could heat a larger space fairly well. Our house is newer construction and well-insulated, so it doesn't have to run long and the room maintains the temperature well.
The good:
The heater looks good, has many features, and includes a remote which is convenient.
The controls are easy to use and the display is easy to read while not being too bright to disturb one's sleep. (The display is red.) It beeps to confirm each button press, whether on the unit or the remote.
It is relatively quiet, but not quite as much as I would have hoped for. Still, I think it will be ok as it isn't any noisier than the air blowing from the central heating system. It does have a little bit of a 'whine' to it, especially when it goes into the cool down mode before shutting off, but again it's not too bad IMO. (I've had heaters that are far louder than this one.)
The housing stays cool to the touch, so it should be very safe to operate. Warm air blows out the front but everything else is completely cool.
Nice, slim design doesn't take up much space.
It has a cool down feature that keeps the fan running for a while after the heater reaches the set temp or is turned off, which disburses the remaining heat from the unit. This will likely prolong the life of the unit and helps make the temperature reading more accurate.
It's made by Hunter and has a three-year warranty. My experience with Hunter products has always been good in the past, so I'm hoping for the same with this heater.
The not so good and reason for my three-star rating:
Each time the heater is turned on you have to change the mode back to auto-it does not remember the last setting. It will always come on to 'HI' mode and you have to then press the + or - buttons to set the desired temperature which puts it into 'AUTO' mode. Once you press + or -, it does remember the last temp you have selected, so only 1 press is necessary if you want the same setting. However, if you move the heater, unplug it, or there is a power outage, everything will reset to the default setting (heater will be 'OFF' - when you turn it back on it will start on 'HI' and you have to press + or - to get back to auto and the default setting will be 75F.)
Auto mode only works in 'HI' mode (you cannot set a temperature and have the unit cycle on and off in 'LO' heat (750 watt) mode.) So it's 1,500 watts when on and nothing when off. For a smaller room like ours I would have preferred to use the low setting which pulls less power, but not with this unit.
While the thermostat reading appears to be pretty accurate, the swing (difference between when the unit shuts off and turns back on) is a ridiculous 4 degrees. This means that if you set the desired temp at 70F, the heater will run until the room reaches 72F, then turn off. It will stay off until the room drops below 68F at which time it will turn back on and heat all the way back up to 72F. Why or why?? 1 or 2 degrees would have been so much better and more comfortable.
The heater is very wobbly between the base and the main unit. This is the part that allows it to oscillate and it is like there is no support other than in the very middle. It wobbles in every direction. The crazy thing is that Hunter makes a similar unit that also oscillates but has mechanical controls and it is rock solid, so why wasn't this one made the same way? Even if everything else about it seems to be of nice quality, this one flaw makes the unit appear very cheaply-made.
There is no visual indicator on the display to show if the oscillating mode is on. Not a big deal, but just thought I would mention it.
All things considered, I'd still recommend it for anyone looking for a heater with these features at this price point. While I'm really picky about stuff and there are things about it that annoy me, I'll probably keep this as it should suite our needs fairly well.
