Questions & Answers

are s hooks available for each end (4 s hooks per 2 pack) ????

Asked by paul December 8, 2017

Yes, kinda. Both ends of one ratchet tie down has a *hook. The hook resembles an "S" but the bottom part actually continues around until it his the middle of the "S" forming a loop. The loop keeps them from detaching from the straps AND can be used hundreds of different ways.

What is the shortest length that you can make these tie downs

Asked by crownhill February 7, 2017

Without damaging/cutting them, close to 1'.

Are they auto retractable?

Asked by Tubular January 6, 2017

Not sure what you mean by "auto retractable?" If you mean like a seat belt, No.

How do they work?

Asked by Tom December 2, 2016

When you apply the hooks to two separate points, you slide the strap end into the ratchet end and start crankin' (ratcheting) and they pull from hook to hook. They pull together similar to a bungee cord, but you can adjust them to any length and are far stronger than a bungee.

How do you get it out of the black plastic box?

Asked by Rh November 28, 2016

Try pushing out the three taps on the back of the black box. Otherwise, cut or break the packaging.

worked well for my use
Recently took a 600 mile trip and used the straps to tie down two pieces of luggages to my tow hitch carrier. The tie straps stayed in place and didn't come loose. For what I needed it for, it worked well. Did have a little trouble loosing it to remove the luggage, but nothing serious. Didn't use it to max capacity so I can't review on that aspect.

Could Be Better Designed
I found that while the instructions (see picture) advised how to thread the strap through the spool, I found it hard to get the strap to stay in the slot in the spool while you also tried to ratchet the handle. Having a clamping feature for that slot would make it much easier to use the ratchet. The ratcheting process itself was OK once you were able to get the strap to catch in the slot. I would recommend that you dry off the ratchet (and maybe spray it with a lubricant) after use to reduce the likelihood of rusting. It is just plated metal and will rust over time if left wet. Fortunately, it does come with a handy storage bag, but it is not a waterproof bag.. The reflective stripe in the straps is a good idea. The packaging was very difficult to open, so that was a bit over-engineered. So, I suggest you look at other ratchet straps that are easier to use.

I HIGHLY recommend you disregard the reviewer (gave 3 stars, with pics and ignorant review) that has never used a ratchet tie down in his life. There are THOUSANDS of different models of ratchet tie downs, yet I've NEVER seen one that has what he has described to be the reason for only 3 stars. If you don't know how to use a ratchet tie down, it's incredibly simple. I didn't know they even came with instructions, but if you have access to the internet there are thousands of pages and videos that can show you how to use them. You will be amazed at what these can do and how they can be used. These are great ratchet tie downs, but they are far from heavy duty. For a couple bucks for each tie down, you really can't go wrong. You can't even get rope for that price. After you've watched a video or two, you will wonder how you ever lived without ratchet tie downs.

Works great and easy to use.
The set of ratcheting ties are great for transporting things and keeping them secure. The metal on the hooks is very sturdy and seems like it will hold up well. They are easy to use and work great. Another plus is that they come with a drawstring bag for storage. If you have larger items that are heavier you might need a different set of ratchets with a wider strap though. I have been really happy with these so far though.

Working well
Own a number of straps and these are by far my favorite medium duty ones. The handle is long and easy to grasp, so you can really get some tension on them. Also like that the release is a loop, so it's super easy to release tension. Straps and hooks are of decent quality. The reflective stripe is a nice to have item I suppose. I do wish these had a rubber pad along the bottom of the ratchet (like some of the others I've owned) so that it wouldn't scratch whatever you're strapping down, but that's not a deal breaker. The storage bag is a nice touch!

Handy to have
Light weight ratchet type tie downs are always handy to have on hand. Simple to use and reflective stripe is a nice feature. Comes in pair (packaged as two straps), but for most jobs, probably need four straps for maximum secure tie down of items. Max rating is 500 lbs., so for most DIYers, should be fine. End hooks are coated in plastic so should last long time. Comes with storage pouch, a nice touch - most difficult thing about these straps, taking it out of the packaging!
