I don't see the rating of the wire. Maybe I missed it. 'SJT' or 'SJE'? 'O' or 'W' ?? Wondering why it's not in the specs for people who like to know that sort of stuff. Thank you in advance.
Asked by: Tilber
SJTW is the correct description, the cord is designed to perform in cold temperatures.

As a maintenance there's nothing worse than trying to run an extension cord with the flexibility of a piece of rubber in the coldest winter temperatures . I took a chance with one of these very reasonably priced cords and was not disappointed. They stayed completely flexible at zero temps and I have no doubt they will perform in weather colder than I will tolerate. I have purchased several "cold weather cords" labeled as such in recent years (I go through at least four per year) and I have found in recent years that almost all cords in this price range labeled cold weather do not even begin to live up to their claims (China). These really are cold weather performers. The outer material seems to be a silicone type of material, similar to what modern spark plug wires are wrapped with; not the rubberized plastic that gets so stiff and brittle on so many cords. You will love this cord.

Returned that one and ordered this one from Home Depot. It took a long time to ship but it was as stated on there ad it is well made and does not stay twisted in cold weather like the one from another company.

No complaints here, it's a good solid extension cord with better than expected flexibility. Obviously it's rated as a cold weather cord and based on my experience with other Husky products I have no doubt it will work as advertised in the winter. But I was more impressed with warm weather usage. I was trimming some small branches with a multitool and using this cord to reach about 40' away. It was much easier to handle and move around than a normal cord which has a tougher outer covering. The plug ends were heavy duty and it's rated at 15A, the same as most outlets around the house, so anything that you'd run direct off an outlet will easily be handled with this cord.

This review is for the Husky Model 801 439 Extension Cord that I was given a chance to check out. This three-prong indoor/outdoor cord is the 50’ cold weather model, rated at 15 amps, 125 volts, 1875 maximum watts and insulated for 300 volts. It’s a 14 gauge cord and weighs 68.8 ounces. The big claim on this cord is that it remains flexible at temperatures down to -58 degrees Fahrenheit (unlike so many others). Since it’s July in Michigan I couldn’t just place it outside overnight to check on flexibility. So I put it in the deep freezer overnight - about 20 hours worth of cold exposure. I then pulled the frost covered cord out of the freezer (see photo), took it outside, held onto one end and tossed the other end toward the end of the patio. Voila! The thing flung out like it was at ambient temperature. Very nice indeed. I’ve seen other reviews on this cord that dispute the low temperature performance, but I doubt that I’ll ever get the chance to test it out at 50 degrees below in southern Michigan. At zero degrees right out of the freezer it worked pretty well. Most of my tools have long since been replaced by cordless models, but I have a 13 amp Ryobi corded lawn mower that I was able to use to check out the cord. The new Husky cord easily handles 13 amps, but the question is - would it fit in the lawn mower cord holder? My old 15 amp cord handled the load O.K., but wouldn’t fit into the Ryobi holder (see photo). The new Husky slid right in (again, see photo). It’s lighter than my old cord, more flexible - and yet handles the same electrical load. That makes this a five star cord in my book (YMMV). Although it is not made in the U.S., the cord comes with a 3 year limited warranty and is Underwriters Laboratories listed, It also has a 90 day Home Depot return warranty. HTH Regards, Jim

A cold weather version helps when you don't really want to use an extension cord or for powering those christmas lights or halloween lights. This 14 gauge 50' cable is great for working outside in the fall. With the heavy gauge I don't have to worry about my powertools having problems with it. I docked one star because... wow... I don't remember smelling such a bad extension cord every. I had to move it from my garage to an outside storage cabinet because of the raw smell. So if you plan to use it down wind, be aware.

Home Depot has three... 14 gauge cable, good for up to 13 Amps This is a medium duty extension cord. Home Depot has three brands, HDX for light duty, this Husky Brand for medium duty and RIDGID for heavy duty. This should handle fairly heavy loads (13A) for most places around the house especially in the winter as it is designed to be flexible all the way down to -58°F. So, more than adequate for Christmas lights that are up to 100’ from the power source. It could also handle a small electric snow shovel and most power tools such as drills and saws. The plug pins are fairly solid though the ground pin looks like it is hollow. The live and neutral blades won’t bend if the plug is dropped. No power indicator. It feels rugged. Solid blue color, no painted stripe. 3 year limited warranty Made in Taiwan
