Q:Why would you need a 34 inch strap if it only works on something that only has a 3 1/2 inch capacity? It doesn't make any sense

Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for your question. This wrench works on the tube with a diameter up to 3-1/2 in. Maybe you can try on bigger tube.

Q:what is the biggest diameter this will work on?

A:  I used it on a 7-1/2 in. diameter PVC screw-on top on my pool chlorinator that was stuck. There is a little stretch in the strap so I'm not sure how well it would work if you need to apply a lot of torque.

A:  The strap is 34 inches by itself. I think with the strap being that length it should easily work on 6 inch pipe.

A:  Grips pipes up to 2 in. and tubes up to 3-1/2 in.

It is that time of year again where the sediment filter for the house needs to be replaced and I could not budge the filter housing with the spanner wrench I had. The spanner wrench broke, so I needed to be able to get that housing loose. I called the manufacturer and they recommended I get a strap wrench to remove the housing. After they reviewed the steps with me, I went to my local Home Depot to look for the strap wrench. I found the Husky. The Husky Strap Wrench is a simple tool, which allows you to put a strap around a pipe, or even a filter housing and tighten down on it, then using the handle as a fulcrum, you can loosen the article you are trying to remove/replace. This was the first time I used a strap wrench so I had to work on getting it positioned right to work. The instructions on the back of the package were not clear to me, so a little trial and error and it did the job. The strap is long and more than accommodated a 6" diameter filter housing. It put the necessary grip on the plastic housing without marring or cracking it. The tool did the job. The Husky does come with a lifetime warranty, which for a homeowner is good, since the use will probably not be very frequent in its lifetime. For professional plumbers this tool may be a little on the light side of the roughness a tool like this will take. The tool is well built and a couple of rubber bands keep the strap neatly tucked together to the handle. For basic home use I do recommend this tool. It will help with your needs, especially stuck water filter housings. I rate this item 4*'s out of 5 due to the confusion caused in not being able to clearly understand the instruction from the way they were drawn. I also dinged it because the price point for this tool seems a little high. Thank you Home Depot for offering this item. You helped me fix my problem.

This a follow up on my previous review. I actually had some difficulty the next time I used this wrench, not the fault of the wrench. Must have put my whole house filter housings on too tight, even though I used plumber's grease on the rubber gaskets. I couldn't get the filter housing off. The "trick' I found out that works was to use a metal pipe, about 2 to 3 feet long or whatever is close to that, on the wrench handle for "leverage". The instructions for setting up the strap wrench was a little difficult but following the picture on the back of the package you'll eventually get it right.

Does exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s a strap wrench - nothing bad happened and I can use it again some day.

webbing strap is slick is not great for gripping polished plumbing parts. better to select a strap wrench with a rubber strap.
