A:  This one is only 6 ft long. The retract feature works well, but the mechanism is difficult to work. It might work better after it's been used, and it also works differently from other mechanisms.

Great product - AFTER you get it out of the packaging and AFTER you FORCIBLY unlock the strap for the 1st time!
These are great straps with superior holding capacity, BUT Husky REALLY NEEDS to CHANGE THE PACKAGING. It takes considerable force and persistence to get the packaging open to get at the tie-downs. Crazy! Then it takes CONSIDERABLE FORCE to enable the strap to be pulled out for the FIRST TIME. Subsequent attempts are a snap - the way it should be on the first try. With better packaging and ease of use for the first time, I would have definitely rated as 5 stars.

Great Tie Down but Watch the Automatic Rewind!
So many products are difficult to unpack these days and I needed a small pry bar and pliers to free these two tie downs from their heavy duty plastic packaging. It was worth the hassle though because these ratchet tie downs are heavy duty with a working load rated at 500 lbs and a breaking strain limit of 1500 lbs. The mechanisms are solid and well-made and should last a very long time. The vinyl covered steel hooks are heavy duty and the one inch wide webbing straps are great for keeping most small items in place firmly and securely. Husky have been innovative with the ratchet strap and the key to this tool is the red lever; depress the red lever and move the handle to the lowest position to enable strap movement. The strap can be pulled out from this position but depressing the red lever again allows the strap free movement in and out. When the strap is in place over the object depress the red lever to automatically take up the slack in the strap and then use the handle to ratchet the strap to the desired holding force. All this is demonstrated in the accompanying video. The object is released when the red lever is depressed and the strap slackens off. The strap rewind mechanism is strong so it is advised to control the returning strap to minimize the whip effect from the heavy steel hook. The fast rewind can tangle the strap as well so it is worth being careful and keeping the strap flat. The moderate six foot length of the strap makes it best to use on small items and avoids having lots of spare strap flailing around and getting in the way.

            Really Great Straps
Husky 6 ft. x 1 in. 500 lb. Retractable Ratchet Straps (2-Pack) These straps work very well. Getting the straps out of the packaging is a bit of a challenge and don’t be too quick to throw it away because the instructions are on stickers attached to the packaging. The actual instructions were stuck on the back of the packaging and it took me a bit to discover the figures were stuck to the front of the packaging. While you might think who needs instructions for a pair of straps the instructions actually helped in understanding where the lever should be placed. These straps can be adjusted from about 6’ down to 26”. The really nice part is the strap retracts into the ratcheting mechanism keeping things neat and preventing you from having to figure out how to thread the straps. The down side to the ratcheting mechanism is its weight, for most jobs this will not be a problem but they certainly weigh enough to cause droop and bounce around while underway. The vinyl covered S hooks appear to be very strong and work quite well. At first I had difficulties in getting the straps to release when the were under a load, the instructions simply said move the handle to position 1, it was almost impossible to push the release button and get the handle to go to positon1, I found that by moving the handle between position 2 and 3 I could then easily push and hold the button down and then move the handle to position 1. These are the best straps I have owned. Pros Quality built Great Design Cons Packaging Instructions could be better and attachable to straps

Strong and Useful - with the toughest packaging ever made!
This Husky set of retractable ratchets (Model 55561) (Made in Taiwan) is a great accessory for strapping down cargo. The size of the hooks and length of the straps is perfect for the bed of my truck, and the ratcheting mechanism is easy and strong. It's take a few minutes to learn to use the mechanism, which includes a spring-loaded reel that retracts the strap with a significant amount of force and speed. If the hook on the long end of the strap isn't connected, it can whip back unexpectedly when the release button is pushed! Once mastered though, the spring-loaded retracting feature is handy, and it eliminates the problem of excess strap flapping around. I hope the spring mechanism lasts, as there is no way to manually retract the strap without working the ratchet. Once the strap is wound back onto the reel, the ratchet mechanism quickly takes out the slack and tightens the strap. If I have one complaint about this set, it's the packaging. The hard plastic case is nearly impossible to open, and there are no instructions about it. It's too tough to cut, and the only way to “unsnap” the top and bottom is to either squeeze exceptionally hard on the depressions (where tabs are hidden) or pry the tabs apart from the back two at a time. Both options require tools. After that you have to forcefully unsnap the strap mechanism from the back of the package, where it is held in place by more tabs. The intent of the titanium-like packaging seems to be so you can remount the straps for storage – but who would? So Husky – if you read this – please redesign the packaging so this otherwise excellent set of straps will be more accessible! That might also save on costs, because this set is a bit overpriced for what it does but not a bad investment.

Easiest straps that I have ever used (video posted below)
I hate using ratchet straps because they are a pain. For some reason, my brain shuts off every time i try to put the strap through the ratchet device, but husky solved that problem for me. These ar extreamly easy to use, and they work just like a tape measurer does. just push down on the red button, and the strap will come out. Let go of the red button, and the strap will wind back up on its own! You can also push the red button and pull up on the handle which allows you to use the ratchet devise to tighten your load, That being said, these are only 6' long, so if you have a larger load, you may need to go with the longer strap. These are incredibly strong, and extremely easy to use. Husky did a great job making a basic ratchet system even easier to use! p.s. the casing is made of metal and very strong.

            Go To Tie Downs
These are my favorite tie downs. They are 6 feet long and well built. I tried them in my truck and they had plenty of length for a ladder or items up to 2 feet tall. They are great for lumber and also work well on my hitch hauler. The handle is large and easy to grip allowing you to really tighten the strap. It tightens smoothly but releasing takes both hands like most do. What I really like is that you don’t need to thread the straps before using and when you are finished the crank is spring loaded and the strap rewinds automatically making them really quick to use and store. The fixed strap is a good length making it easy to reach the ratchet - An important feature. Overall they are very nice tie downs for the price. I have them stored under the back seat in my truck so I’ll have them when needed. They are my go to tie downs now!
