It works well
I got this a few years ago and really haven't had to use it until now. I've never used a splitting maul before and it took a few times to get the basics down. The picture is today's work, maybe 2 hours worth. It's a good tool.

I really hadn't ever needed to split wood before but now with a fireplace and access to some recently felled trees, I picked up this maul and it really did the trick. It is certainly a bit of a workout, but I had a lot of logs split into usable sized pieces in no time.

    way too blunt
I can swing pretty hard and this thing will not split any hard wood wider than 10 in. It simply will not stick in the wood it bounces off the wood. I put an angle grinder to it and it still sucks. I need to grind even more. I think I can get it to work once I grind on it once more

Maul that doesn't split wood well
I read the reviews and thought "well it can't be that bad." Believe me it is more for demolition then splitting wood rounds. I had better luck with a 4 pound Michigan ax to split wood. This maul has a head that is too wide for splitting wood so you waste a lot of energy splitting a round over 24 inches. It just crushed the wood instead of cutting into it. Bought it for the lifetime warranty but if I don't use it what is the point? Bought a Fiskers 8 pound maul instead.

This is a big improvement from a standard ax for chopping wood. It is the perfect weight to be able to lift and swing and is heavy enough to come down heavy and split the wood nicely. It has a forged, heat-treated head for durability. It also has double injection fiberglass handle with soft grip protection for a comfortable fell that reduces vibrations.

This is a pretty nice splitting maul/axe that has some good heft to it. Came nicely packaged and protected. Seems well built and solidly put together, however I'm a little worried about the fiberglass body compared to wood (hopefully its stronger and proves me wrong). Honestly, what you see is what you get and overall is excellent for splitting wood. Recommended!

Grandpa always told me don't leave the wooden handled tools out in the yard and always oil them when you put them away otherwise when you need them you won't have them. well the other day it happen splitting some logs and bam fortunately no one was hurt but I learned my lesson. So a fiberglass handle is the way to go. I do have a gas log splitter but having a splitting maul when I am out in the woods so I can pick them up helps.

This is a great splitting maul for all uses around the wood pile. It's an 8lb maul, nice weight and balance with a sweet black composite handle and rubber grip. It has a rubberized cover for the blade too. I love the high grip handle and composite construction. The face is presharpened and ready to use from the get go. As usual with a good maul the back of the head is a sledge for using with wedges to get a good split. With it's composite handle, full steel head and high grip handle this should last for many many years cutting firewood for the firepit. Since this comes with Husky's lifetime warranty I highly recommend it.

This is not your grandpa's maul. This thing is an intimidating beast, it has 21st Century written all over it. Surprisingly it's not made in China, it's a product of Viet Nam. Beginning with the weight, the head is 8 lbs. and the overall tool is 10.4 lbs. The fiberglass reinforced over-molded grip is very comfortable, it's easy to hang onto and control. The fiberglass handle helps to dampen the vibrations which are more noticeable with a hardwood handle. The splitting portion of the head widens from 0 to about 2-3/8 ins. I'm not a woodsman but I would imagine this will do a pretty good job of splitting a log without the need for a wedge. My primary use for this tool will be for construction demolition. This seems to be a very well made tool for a very fair price. Husky, owned by Home Depot, offers a lifetime warranty on this maul. "If your Husky hand tool ever fails, bring it back and we will replace it free. This full warranty gives you specific rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary state to state. Makes splitting logs easy. The weight of this maul axe allows gravity to assist you in splitting logs. The fiber glass handle is light and soft to the touch. There is a nice grippy rubber handle at the far end. I used this maul for about 20 minutes last night getting some wood ready for a backyard patio fire and while heavy, the amount of muscle stress was minimal. (Meaning I’m not sore like I usually am from splitting wood with a regular axe). In terms of long term durability, only time will tell. However it is backed by the Husky lifetime warranty, so I can bring it back for a replacement if needed. I docked 1 star because I had to get my angle grinder out and add a sharp edge when the maul was new. It was pointed but not sharp. The sharp edge I put on did not dull over my use. Just wish I did not have to take the time and put on that edge on a new product. Very pleased overall and should get many years of use.
