can i paint a car with this spray gun

i want to paint my car...the spry gun is compatible with the car paint
Asked by: mike
Yes....u need a compressor. Why else would u buy a spray gun. And no this finis not too small nor do u need a larger one to paint a car. I'm a professional painter for collision centers. And my years of experience and technical training in vocational colleges proves that the equipment a technician uses can improve performance. But it isn't the equipment that makes a paint job is the painters know how, technical expertise, speed of application, distance to the panel, flash times between coats, correct air gun pressure settings as well as other things like degreasing, and washing the panels to be sprayed properly that makes a finish (painted result) successful or not....

Asked by: db
You will need a male fitting that fits your hose, the threads are the standard size. You can buy one or take it off one of the tools you already own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for painting house trim or your car I have been painting my wood trim in the house, but ran into a head ache when trying to paint my wood banaster with spindels. the first problem is that it was just a pain to paint with a brush, and the second was the brush marks that the very expensive brushes made. I was a bit worried that the Behr latex paint that i was using would be to thick, somi thinned it by adding 3/4 of water to a gallon can. purred it into the sprayer cup, and started going to town. the paint went on very easy, and came out smooth. The gun allowed me to adjust the spray width, and the amount of air that it was putting out. the over spray was not that bad, and no spitting from the gun. it also felt very good in the hand, and was extreamy easy to use do the the smooth trigger action. The cup is actually large, and allows you to hold a good amout of paint. I used the 1.4 tip that came with this, but they also give you a 1.8 for primer or thinner material. as formcleaning the gun. they give you a wrench to take it apart, and I just ran water through it. For an oil base, or stain, i would put some thinner in it and spray it out. I very happy with the sprayer. its built very solid, and it paints great. I 100% recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good general purpose gun This HVLP gun worked fairly well for me. Let me start out by saying two things. the first is that most paints need to be thinned properly before you can spray them, you can't ding the gun or it's spray quality because of it. the second is that this is not a 500 dollar top end gun, so expecting it to spray like one is not fair either. That being said, i was able to lay down a smooth finish painting enamel with this gun. Most HVLP guns require a fairly large compressor, this ran well off of my 25 gallon general duty compressor. The overspray was a bit on the heavy side, but I overcame that by setting up a box fan far upwind of my project which blew the overspray off of the surface. Overall this was a good spraying gun for the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I had no previous experience using a spray gun and was a bit nervous before the first use. I had read other reviews stating that this gun couldn't handle Latex thick paint, but after reading up on how to thin paint and following the instructions it worked just fine. Also adjusting the spray was much less of an issue than I had expected. There is a little bit of overspray, but not enough to complain about. Overall a good spray gun.

I was a bit skeptical about buying a spray gun from anyone but the biggest and oldest names in the business since I had used those guns for painting cars decades ago. This little gun worked quite well for spraying something called pre-cat lacquer on kitchen cabinet doors--about three dozen of them. The adjustments worked well along with the 1.4 mm nozzle to get a well atomized finish the came out near perfect. I used it with both a slightly thinned (10%) lacquer and with the full strength product for final coating. Folks who have seen the cabinets thought they were factory finished. This is the first time I used an HVLP gun and it seems like the overspray is much less than with traditional syphon feed guns. Make sure you have a big enough compressor to keep up with the spraying. I had a 3.5 HP compressor with an 11 gallon reserve tank and the compressor was on about 25-35% of the time when I used a fairly wide pattern requiring more air. I used about 32-34 psi at the compressor, which would be slightly less at the gun given the 50 feet of hose. I probably should have bought a regulator to use at the gun along with a final filter but I got lucky and everything sprayed beautifully with no contamination, orange peel effect, sags or runs. Great little gun for the money for the DIY person. Just be sure to get familiar with all three adjustments BEFORE you spray on your first pieces. That's what the Pros always do. P.S. I used Verathane Briarwood stain (see picture) from The Home Depot after sanding off the old finish down to bare wood with 5 grades of sand paper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pretty good once you get the hang of it I struggled with another CH cheapo sprayer and compared it to this one. This one has mAny more adjustable features, more holes where air comes out and is a gravity fed vs siphon, plus it comes with a lot of accessories that are very useful. All I am using it for right now is spraying primer and latex paint onto kitchen cabinets. It took a lot of adjusting and fiddling with to get a good result out of, but once I figured out I was pretty happy. The key to latex: 8oz / gallon, which comes to about 1 oz for every 428ml, and USE THE BIGGER NOZZLE. I was spraying a high quality valspar paint. The small nozzle won't do it, it just sputters and bubbles and makes you mad. Very mad. It is also easy to take apart and clean out. Comes with the tools you need. I will be keeping this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well! I bought this spray gun a couple days ago to spray paint on cabinet doors. After reading up on it and understanding that latex based paints are difficult to spray, I ended up purchasing Benjamin Moore Advance paint instead of an oil paint (I just don't like cleaning up oil paint). I added a little water to it, and it sprays perfectly fine! The paint is thinner then a traditional latex paint to begin with, and it is meant to be slow-drying so it levels out anyway. I sprayed my cabinet doors when they were laying horizontally set up on nails on a board, not vertical. I was afraid I was going to have to mask off my entire basement to paint, but, in my opinion, there was not too much over-spray. Some paint dust ended up on the floor, but I didn't have to mask off walls or the junk on my basement shelves or anything like that--just the floor. I have a 4-gallon portable compressor that I used. The compressor had to run half-way through painting each door, but I would stop painting between cabinet doors to let the compressor catch up before I sprayed the next door. I've only had it for a couple days and used it twice, but it has worked very well for my application. The instructions are easy to follow, and the unit is very easy to clean. This is the first HVLP spray gun I have used, so I can't compare it to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy! I purchased this a few weeks ago with the intention of spraying the large metal gate to my driveway. I made an earlier attempt with rattle cans and gotten bad results and flaking. I sanded again and applied the primer with the gun today and got excellent results with no previous experience. I used a cardboard box to spray test patterns and make adjustments. My Kobalt 8 gallon was keeping up just fine and on an extension cord too. Clean up wasn't bad, but keep in mind the fitting you unscrew after the nozzle is actually reverse threaded so it's something to be aware of and not documented in the manual.

Went out this morning to get some more work done on some lawn furniture and no paint was coming out. Turns out the plastic (crap!) trigger tabs that "grab" the brass piece of the needle to pull it back are bent outward. If they couldn't come up with a better needle mechanism they could have at least made the triggers from metal to prevent the tabs warping. This one is going back and getting replaced with a Kobalt, which has a metal handle. The gun sprayed fine when it worked, but having such a weak trigger is a huge issue and the reason I'm giving this item one star instead of four or five.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked good for me Ok, I am nit a professional. I bought this to paint a small addition. I used it with my 8 gallon Husky Compressor with another air tank in line for more air capacity. I was spraying an exterior enamel paint that I thinned a little. It worked flawlessly. I used the 1.8mm tip and the results are very good. Don't be afraid to buy this gun, you will have to work with it a little to get the spray pattern you desire, but you have to do that with any gun. I have received a couple compliments on how well the paint job looks. If I can do it, you can do it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sub-standard 'O' ring and plastic parts. Bought this as an emergency substitute as the hvlp gun I normally use for spraying oil based lacquer on furniture had been loaned to a family member. As usual for most store bought spray guns, it included the ubiquitous, nearly useless 1.4 mm tip. That tip size is way too small for properly thinned paint, and slightly too big for most kinds of wood finishes. Whatever, that much I expected. As with all spray guns I've ever used to spray lacquer with over 25 years, I placed it in a bucket of lacquer thinner for a few minutes during a break from spraying. When I resumed use, it began leaking enough air from around the air pressure regulator valve (which is plastic) to render the gun useless. Upon disassembly and investigation, I found that an 'O' ring had swelled up which was causing the air leak. Unbelievable that the manufacturer would use parts that are overly sensitive to a solvent as common and mild as lacquer thinner!

This allowed me to use a HF 21 Gallon air compressor. I couldn’t be happier with the gun! It comes with both a 1.8m size tip for primer and a 1.4m size tip for the base coat/single stage paint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great results with waterborne finishes I don't use this for paint, but I do use it to spray smaller woodworking projects with waterborne lacquers. Unfortunately my 20 gallon compressor is not quite up to the task to use this gun continuously for larger furniture items without pressure drops resulting in fat edges. However I did know that going in and use this for smaller items It's a basic sprayer that really couldn't be more simple to use. If you are new to HVLP spraying, practice by simply loading it up with water and spray some large pieces of cardboard. I cannot comment on it's performance with thicker coatings such as paint, but it is adjustable in every way an HVLP gun should be and I don't see why you couldn't get decent results with the necessary fine tuning. I have used some lower cost guns that are similar and the fit, finish, and performance of this one is far superior.

Poor quality control at the factory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressed Honestly very impressed with this 50$ hvlp gun, i used it to paint a few bumpers with solvent based paints/clear coats and they turned out good. Iv used top name brand guns like devilbiss etc some ranging from 300 to 600$ and the results come very close when you compare prices. I was very skeptical but im glad i gave this gun a try. The gun does have a cheap feel and knobs are not smooth but it works fine, wish it came with an alluminum cup though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! You have to know how to use the gun people!! The paint has to be thinned with water or paint thinner depending on what the base is for the paint. Plus you need a big enough compressor to get enough air to the tool or of course it won't work. Set the pressure to run at 40PSI and adjust the nozzles/spray patterns to your liking and boom it works like a charm! I have used this to refinish furniture and do multiple projects around the house. Works perfectly!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good, but poorly documented I purchased this spray gun and used it a few times until one time I was unable to clean the paint out of it. After an entire weekend of lost work trying to clean the paint out, I decided to start disassembling it further. After consulting every last word of disassembly instructions in the manual (hint: there isn't any), and looking over the replacement part breakout diagram, I started by removing the needle, the air cap, the nozzle, then moved on to the nozzle bushing. However, the nozzle bushing would not give, which I thought was probably due to dried paint and possibly internal corrosion. Using the tool that came with the gun, I attempted to rotate it both ways (just in case) without success. I then tried taking it off with my 40 ft*lbs impact driver with no success. I then used a socket wrench and applied a great deal of force until it budged, at which point it became evident that it was reverse-threaded. On a device where every single thing is using standard threading, and without a single mention of this anywhere in the documentation, you put a reverse-threaded piece on the spray gun. Because of this, I now have a broken spray gun and will be far more hesitant to purchase Husky products in the future.
