Questions & Answers

What kind of paint can I use with this kit?

The description says that these guns are not suitable for latex paints. I am trying to paint interior walls inexpensively - what kind of paint can I use?
Asked by: mrshlrn
I just bought this product myself. when you open the package it clearly states do not use with latex paint. However, I called the customer service line and they put me in touch with the paint technician who was extremely helpful. He said that this sprayer can be used with latex paint but you must contact the paint manufacturer to learn what the thinning ratio should be. He also recommended being thorough in cleaning the unit afterwards. They also have a 1.9mm needle kit available which is better suited for latex that they sell online. It was less than $15.00 for the kit. If you have any concerns reach out to the customer service staff. They were really helpful.

Gun/Air Compressor HELP!

Does anyone know if I could run these guns with just a simple 6-gallon pancake style compressor (150 Max PSI)? If not, would the Huskey 33 Gal that they sell at HD do the trick? I'd buy the 33gal $299 Huskey if it would allow me to use the guns for my laquer and automotive paint and top coats. Problem is, I keep seeing people write about how you really need a gas powered 2-5HP compressor to really used these types of guns effectively. Any truth to that? I know it's really just more of a CFM and tank size question, but I want to paint my car with professional grade results. I also want my laquer to be fully atomized so that the finish comes out awesome! Can anyone chime in with some wisdom one way or the other?
Asked by: mikejonce
You need available air ,that means large capacity and for auto paint you need a dryer loop A couple of 21 gallon minimum tanks joined together .It is working for me.

Can this be used for exterior house painting?

If so what sprayer in the kit would work? Or should I just go with an airless sprayer? I'd hate to have to buy one for interior walls and cabinets and one for exterior.
Asked by: Riley
NO ! You need an airless setup for heavy latex paints.

HVLP and Standard Gravity Feed Spray Gun Kit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 131.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for the price I have only used the HVLP gun in the kit so far. These are NOT technically HVLP as they require 20 to 40 psi to operate. True HVLP runs on 10 psi or less. Be that as it may, this spray gun works well and puts out a nice fan. I used it to paint a very small part approximately an 8" cube. It atomized the paint sufficiently and did a nice even job. I am spraying Sherwin Williams Polane catalyzed paint. Clean up was easy and the small cup that I used came 99.9% clean with very little solvent. The best part of this gun is that you can spray virtually 100% of the paint in the cup. There is no waste or need to mix a little extra. This is far better than siphon style guns. I have an Accuspray $400 true HVLP (5psi) gun and this new gun will be replacing it as it lets me get closer to the parts on a table because there is no can hanging under the gun, as well as its efficiency and ease of cleanup. One other thing that is needed is a stand for the gun. There is no easy way to add paint to the gun and put it down between jobs. I made my own from some wood and it works perfectly. Pictures included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Threw a nice spray I bought this to do a paint job on my car and when my initial painting method didn't work out I needed a gun in a quick pinch. I initially wanted the Devilbliss kit however I did not have time to wait for shipping so I went and picked this gun up at HD and the 15 gallon Dewalt compressor. I used acyrlic lacquer car paint and threw the primer, basecoat and clear coat through this gun without any issues. I was impressed by how simple and easy it was to work. I don't quite understand all the knobs on the gun and they dont seem to really do much of anything that i noticed so i kept them at the factory settings. I cleaned the gun with lacquer thinnner and shot it through just like the directions. We will see if this gun will stand the test of time I like products that will last and not need to be replaced so only time will tell. As of right now this product gets 5 stars

So far the only project I have done with the spray gun is repainting my aluminum patio furniture. It worked like a charm. The finish is very consistent and it was easy to do. My only wish is that it was easier to clean. I think a good idea would be to have a disposable cleaning pouch that contained a cleaning/lubricating fluid. When finished, you would remove the paint reservoir and screw on the cleaning pouch, and squeeze the handle. Viola...gun internals are clean and lubricated. Remove pouch and discard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Latex needed thinning or larger, 1.8mm aperture nozzle (optional through Husky Parts Dept) I bought these guns to spray latex Glidden Gripper primer and latex satin enamel on kitchen cabinets. I filtered the primer through fine mesh cone filters before filling the gun cup and used the gun filter which was included in the kit. The gun would not spray the primer until thinned by about 20%-25%. I called the Husky parts line at 1-800-654-0688 and ordered the 1.8mm tip and needle for both guns in the kit. Cost was about $16 each with shipping for a total of roughly $32. I have not yet received the larger aperture tips but I suspect the additional .4mm will make all the difference in the world when trying to spray thicker latex finishes. The gun did an excellent job spraying the thinned primer and left a smooth as glass finish but i'd prefer not to dilute by 25% for obvious reasons. The knobs for the fluid control, fan size control and air control are all plastic so be careful not to cross-thread! As much use as these knobs will get they should be metal and therefore 4 stars for my review instead of 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding for interior Latex paint I rarely write reviews for products but I went out of my way to come back to the website and write about this gravity sprayer. I bought it five months ago and I have been working this tool HARD. I first used it to spray interior bannisters and hand rail on stairs (big project, mostly for all the masking work), later to do kitchen cabinets/doors/drawers and more recently to stain exterior adirondack chairs. There is a lot of ambiguity about using latex paint in HVLP sprayers but let me be clear that this sprayer laid down latex paint beautifully without clumps, chunks or drips (no I did not dilute the latex paint in any way). A few key recommendations for using latex paint in this sprayer: use the larger aperture nozzle (included), warm paint to room temperature for several days beforehand and use mesh straining cloth to strain out any chunks as you pour paint into the sprayer reservoir (mesh straining cloth available in any paint department). I ran it with the adjustable air input and paint input settings dialed as high as possible with compressor at the recommended 40PSI. When you are ready to spray, spend a few minutes dialing in settings while spraying on test material. Cleaning the tool takes 10 minutes once you get the hang of it. Really pleased with this tool. High quality and it comes with extra parts which is a plus. This is my first Husky product and I would definitely consider their other products in the future based upon this experience (see attached before and after shots of bannister).
