Same question as Keith. It appears as thought the screw end goes into the x-bar? But it slides thru. Is it designed to do this? Only "holding" when pressure is applied? Seems strange. And nothing in the "literature" on back about this. Please clarify. Ian on this site to get answers... or I will return it and look for something more useful. Thank you.

The cross bar does not thread correctly into the leverage bar. They machined the threads too small. So when you try to screw on the cross bar to the leverage bar, it just slips right past the threads and falls off the end. Now this issue has been mentions several times in these reviews. However, instead of acknowledging the error and correcting the problem, Home Depot reps come on here and say, "that's the way it is supposed to be." Really? I think not. The more likely answer is they have 10 million defective units in their warehouse and they do not know what to do with them. So, they are trying to pass them off as "we made them that way for a reason." So, my suggestion is do not bother buying one until they fix the problem. If they ever do, then I would be the first once to highly suggest this.

The threads do not fit into the other piece. Slides right through. What is the point of this?

Universal Lug Nut Wrench Set (4-Piece) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact Size The leverage bar and the drive bar are made from 5/8" chromium-vanadium steel. They are finished to a very smooth, bright and very durable finish. The ends of the drive bar accept the 2 included universal sockets. The sockets are thick walled and will not likely ever split. They are made from the same material as the leverage and drive bar. They are sized to fit the 4 most commonly used SAE and Metric lug nut sizes. The wrench can be used in the cross configuration or in the T-bar configuration. The end of the leverage bar is grooved and the inside of the drive bar is grooved to limit slipping of the two bars when used in the T-bar configuration. See Photos. The leverage bar is 16" inches long which will allow you to put plenty of force on stubborn lug nuts. The thing I like most is how little space this lung wrench occupies when folded up. This is great for putting it in with the spare tire in a smaller car, but you still have the power of a larger wrench. See photo comparisons.

This machining error was pointed out in many of the other reviews yet I did not read them prior to making this purchase. Although still useful, I would not risk injury, or damage to the fender of my vehicle, should the torque bar slip down while exerting pressure while loosening the wheel nuts. I intend to return this item to Home Depot tomorrow requesting a full refund. Interestingly, I called the manufacturer and was advised that they were aware of the error and..."were only following Home Depot's drawings..." ! I found this to be somewhat strange when considering that the manufacturing company would knowingly fabricate incorrect parts.

I love the idea that this will store nice and compact, yet still give you all the leverage you need to remove lug nuts. By threading the cross bar and the leverage bar you would be able to screw the parts together to make a solid T-Handle lug wrench. The chrome finish is excellent. Here is the problem. The cross bar does not thread correctly into the leverage bar. The machined the threads too small. So when you try to screw on the cross bar to the leverage bar, it just slips right past the threads and falls off the end. Now this issue has been mentions several times in these reviews.
