The IHeat Electric Tankless Water Heater Model S-12 has the capacity of heating 2.3 GPM which is the equivalent to 1 showers (at 1.5 GPM each), and 1 sinks (at 0.75 GPM each) simultaneously, or any combination which equals to 2.3 GPM. The S-12 can handle these applications in the warmer climates of the US which are Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, California, Alabama, and Mississippi. Anything north of these States the Model S-16 can be used for point of use, or 1-application at a time. A good rule of thumb is if you live in the southern states mentioned here the S-12 can power a 1 to 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home, including dishwasher and clothes washer, please keep in mind that tankless water heaters are designed to heat incoming water at a maximum output temperature based on simultaneous use and inlet water temperatures. So if your demand for hot water decreases your output water temperatures will increase, as well as if you live in the colder states this S-12 will heat less volume of water, this will cause the S-12 to be used in Point of Use applications in the colder climates.

A:  It is suppose to connect to the cleaner potable drinking cold water line if you hook it to a hot water line it probably would not even come on to much and you would still be using your HWH to heat the water. In addition the hot water from your HWH will not be clean or nearly as clean as the cold water, drinking water supply which will foul up this heater fast and yes void the warranty too. You would definitely need a really good water filter on the inlet that can tolerate hot water. In short I would not recommend it it would not save you much if any money and it might damage this heater. You can contact 800 Home Depot for more information or the manufacturer directly.

Q:Does an electrician or a plumber install? 6 gauige means a new wire needs to be pulled but it is a short homerun.

A:  It is recommended that a qualified person or people install the electric service and plumbing. I believe you can arrange that through The Home Depot too. I've used their recommended installers before and was always happy and they stand by their work. You need 6 gauge even though its a short run to handle the voltage and current and a dedicated circuit breaker.

    A:  It sounds counter productive to me. Why not just tap into cold water pipe at the 2nd bathroom? It will still save you money and you might be able to get by with a smaller unit to heat just the one bathroom. Or get a tankless heater to replace your tank heater to heat both your bathroom water supplies. A tankless heater will always save you money regardless if your replacing an electric or natural gas tank heater because it only runs on demand. And they heat up instantly. Also it will free up the space your tank is taking up. In addition these are designed to run with a cold water inlet. I read somewhere that they should never be connected to a hot water inlet. Your tank heater is still going to do most of the heating in addition to running when there is no need for hot water. Call the experts at Drakken they can give you the best advice.
