Warning: Our incensed plumbers did not use the supplied compression couplings (which are not a standard thread): Couplings leaked after several attempts; finally received new fittings from Iheat to repair the unit. I bought this to replace a small, conventional water heater that served one shower and sink in an apartment in my house. Other brands were either too big or too small; this one was just right. I was concerned that it might not raise the water temperature enough here in Washington but it produces very hot water. Another cool thing is it's small enough to fit between the studs. The only thing is, I can't figure out how to regulate the temperature on the unit, but otherwise, it's perfect. I purchased a scale filter to go with it to prolong the life and insulated the wooden access door to prevent freezing (it's on an outside wall, as shown in the picture). Note that you will need a 220 volt, 60 amp circuit to power this little guy.

We live in Ohio in a two bedroom, one bath home. There are only two of us and have a 100 amp main with a 60 amp breaker for the hot water. We didn't figure we needed much but past experiences with tankless heaters taught us that we at least wanted to get a full flow shower. We have it with this one! It delivers what it says! Of course, if you run water any where while in the shower it effects the temperature, but it will bounce back right away. So only do one thing at a time :) With only two of us, this is easily done. Hook up was a breeze with new push fittings on the market. I gave this water heater a four because I voided the warranty by hooking it up myself. With such a simple hook up, I'm disappointed with that. I also haven't had this very long and would like to know if people are still pleased after a couple years. One last thing, we have some of the "cleanest" city water in Ohio and still need a filter before it goes into the water heater because of chemicals and sediment. Do yourself a favor and put one in beforehand and a back flow valve. This should make it last a couple extra years.

Unfortunately, these units only work for about 12 months. The the flow switch stops the units and you have to purchase a replacement. This is our 3rd unit and it is getting very annoying to replace these every year. The manufacturer customer service staff has a terrible attitude and will literally laugh at you over the phone if you just ask for a receipt of your transaction.

Good Unit But Correctly Select The Right Model
I purchased this model to replace a Bosch unit that -after three years of stellar service- literally melted and almost caught fire. Apparently, a hot leg inside the unit became disconnected. Compared to the Bosch unit that it replaced, the iHeat S-9 is solidly built. It has a sealed, brushed stainless body compared to a molded plastic one. It has no serviceable parts inside, and to open the unit would void its warranty. Further, the iHeat has an easily adjustable up/down button to adjust the water temperature. It also has a red digital display of the current water temperature. On the iHeat S-9, the water inflow and outflow is through right and left sides respectively via 1/2 inch copper compression fittings. The electrical connection is made through a 2 foot pigtail. Each of these was significantly different to the Bosch unit where water enters and exits the bottom via threaded fittings, and the electrical connections were made inside the unit itself. The installation was consequently not a simple "buy and replace" project but took some time. In addition, the iHeat unit requires that on both inflow and outflow sides, the installer use at least 36 inches of copper pipe. This was somewhat challenging to accommodate in a small kitchen cabinet where I mounted the unit. Over all, however, a DIY job lasting a day with proper planning and material, assuming you have a dedicated 240 circuit to the location. In my opinion, spend some time determining which unit to buy based on the rate of rise necessary given your typical water temperature. In my circumstance, I use the S-9 to heat water coming into my kitchen faucet and dishwasher. I live in the East Bay of San Francisco where our water temperature coming into the unit is typically about 55-60 degrees. While I set the unit for 125 degree output, I have yet to receive this temperature. Typically it produces 115 degree water; good but not exactly what I had hoped. I probably should have gone up a model as my wiring size would have supported that selection, but ...you learn. Also, given my prior experience with the Bosch unit, I recommend a 50 amp 240 volt GFCI breaker that does not require a neutral. The iHeat S-9 draws 41 amps at 240 volts and does not utilize a neutral, only two hot legs and a ground. Having such protection might preclude damage to the unit if one leg becomes disconnected, and of course, is just plain sensible.
