Test-Pro Digital Multi-Meter with TRMS

The Ideal Brand, Test-Pro Digital Multi-Meter with TRMS is a well-made professional quality true RMS multimeter for taking accurate electrical measurements presented on a large easy to read digital LCD display. In addition to common electrical measurements this meter features maximum, minimum, and relative functions to include data hold useful for capturing variable data. There is a bright backlight for low light conditions, high quality strain relieved test leads with twist-on crocodile clips. The meter is surrounded by a protective rubber sleeve that can be removed for fuse or battery replacement, or left off to reduce the footprint and overall size of the meter. A built-in stand is handy for making benchtop measurements. Electricians, electronics technicians, auto mechanics, home owners, hobbyists and students will find this to be an exceptional meter in their careers, projects, and education.

The meter comes with both probes for pinpoint usage and alligator clips for attaching to wires to measure reading when the wire is energized without the risk of shock Recommend this meter for people who work in a field that requires electrical measuring.

This unit as some issues I don’t like, compared to my current tester. The main issue is the method of the cable connections. The end fittings have an odd connection, and they have plugs to fit in the connectors to keep them clean. Unfortunately, these small parts are easy to lose. They have alligator clips (which could be a nice feature), but they also have little plugs to get lost. Actually, I wasn’t able to make continuity with the alligator clip to the lead wire, so they are worthless. On my older unit, I made a couple jumper wires with alligator clips on them, and they would serve the same function, in addition to allow continuity testing of longer items. The temperature probe has a double terminal plug in to insert in the tester. No instructions, but I see they have a small + - stamp on the plug (if you didn’t know it, you will miss it), and the negative terminal must be in the common plug of the tester. Certainly, could have been made easier if it was color coded, or at least make the markings more prominent, and make the markings match the label on the tester. I think the basic tester is okay, but the hardware to use it is poor.

This Ideal brand multi-meter has a lot of useful features. For example, it automatically adjusts to the range of measurement rather than having you set the range manually and risk being wrong and potentially damaging the multi-meter. This piece of equipment will automatically adjust, saving you a lot of trouble. It can measure AC and DC voltage (true RMS AC voltage too), as well as capacitance, resistance, temperature, current, frequency, and, lastly, continuity with an audible tone – very useful to see if you have a short or a proper connection. It has a nice backlight which increases the visibility of the large one-inch LCD digits on the screen. It also automatically powers off to save its internal battery power. It even has a built-in stand (see picture) which allows hands free use with good visibility of the display (see picture). This really does have a lot of great design features, and it does come with test leads as well (they store in the back of the case – see picture). The leads can convert to very large alligator clips which are easy to use (see picture). The instruction sheet that is included in the package will really answer all questions about the operation of this multi-meter. Having worked with electronics several decades and having seen a lot of test equipment over the years, I highly recommend this multi-meter because it really packs a lot of features in a handy size unit!
