Hi Andy * AWG wire is too big for the connector. Look at the installation guide document it has all the UL Listed wire combinations the connector is rated for. As one of the community answers stated you might look at the Aluminconn connectors for your application. Hope that helped Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

What compound is used inside the connectors to keep the oxidation from attacking the aluminum wire?

Ideal won't say exactly what the compound is, but it appears to support combustion when these connectors burn up. If you want a reliable copper to aluminum or aluminum to aluminum connection, use the AlumiConn connectors that Home Depot also sells.

Do these come in a 100 pack

I believe they are available from some sources in a 100 pack, but considering the high failure rate of these connectors, I would recommend the AlumiConn connector, the only connector approved by the US Consumer Product Safety commission for a DIYer to use for a permanent connection and/or repair.

Alumicon 3-port connector or copalum crimp connector. Ideal 65 was discontinued; they couldn't recover from bad press.

You can for a temporary connection to a copper pigtail to the device, but if you want a permanent connection, use the AlumiConn connector.

what do i use to connect two aluminum wires together?

Answers

The Twister connectors are for copper to aluminum wiring. there are other styles of purple alumiconn connectors like polaris and other brands that use an aluminum block with a set screw for each wire, some are not purple but listed cu/al. like polaris but some smaller ones for 10 & 12 gauge and these are usually purple. Many electricians call any purple connector an alumiconn.

What works on #8 and # 6 wire.

I use Polaris brand I think the 6-14 is the ones I have at work , make sure you get the ones listed for aluminum, alumiconns can not Handel over 10 awg solid al stranded copper

How many do you actually get? It says 65 but 10 to package/

It is a 10 pack. The number 65 is just part of the product code.

They were the only option for meeting the code but are insanely expensive. I have to wonder how much differently they perform compared to a regular wire nut with de-ox inside it.

Response from Ron KipperMay 4, 2021
Hello doing that would not meet code and you could buy AL/CU rated switches or receptacles, AMP has a system called Copalumn but costs around $12 per wire or better yet it may be time to rewire the home and bring it up to todays code. Hope that helps Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com
