Questions & Answers

Is the mirror a true image or distorted?

Asked by: J9
Each mirror has an excellent finish and provides a very clear reflection. Images that appear across two mirrors are distorted. The distortion is cause by the space between and plain of each mirror. The mirrors makes the room appear bigger and brighter and they are very functional for dress.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice appearance but not so good door material Special order web only. One of the panels had a cracked mirror on it. The vendor does not send replacement parts so I had to return it and buy it again. Since there is a chance the next one could be damaged, I am waiting for the second set to arrive before returning the broken part. Yes I had to pay for the second one too but will be getting back the money for one of the orders. The door is basically made of glued together saw dust so the quality is average. It is also very heavy. Be very careful to not strip out the threads installing the pivot parts on the door panels. It actually comes as 2 separate 2 foot doors and a third box with the 4 foot track and floor piece. That leaves the 2 foot tracks as useless material. You also get twice the hardware because the 4 foot track also comes with it. Easy to install and does look pretty good. I just had to downgrade it for my inconvenience of this stupid process of getting a replacement door. Be sure to unwrap it at the store and inspect it before taking it home.

The instruction video on the HD site I found better then the paper instructions included. I read a few reviews with sizing issues which in my case came down to the framed opening I was installing them into was not square. This isn't much of an issue for 60's 70's sliding doors which I was removing by Bi-doors work best in square frame. The system does have some adjustment so with a few removals and adjustments I got everything happy. Few things I'll call out. The doors can be flipped as both the top and bottom are drilled but if you look at the hinge pins the flat head should go up. See picture. The instructions call for a drill but at no point does it say "pre-drill holes" When dealing with MDF I first use a snap nail set and pre-drill all holes and don't over tighten. When you set the first door in the track watch the door at the edge. If you don't have clearance loosen the 5/8th bolt at the top and use a pry bar to adjust. See Pictures. Lastly when you attach the oat plate at the bottom. pre-drill and also counter sink for the head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Door! I bought this door from Home Depot online. A company called Custom Door and Mirror manufactures and ships the products for Home Depot online. They adjusted the size of the door for me at no extra charge to fit an unusual doorway size. I had done my homework on bi-fold mirrored doors and I can say that this product far surpassed anything else I looked at. Solid, well made, quality item. Custom Door and Mirror took an active interest in making sure I was fully satisfied with the product. I had the door installed by a local carpenter who found it easy and quick to install, hence minimizing my hourly installation expense.

We changed the configuration of the room and needed bi-fold doors and I wanted the mirrored ones to make the room more elegant and create the illusion of space. I actually prefer the sliders because there are less "lines" to break the site line in the mirrors. (When you have two openings to cover, that means there are a total of six "lines" where the doors fit together). The bi-folds give you more usable space because you can open the doors most of the way, which is why we needed them. We just installed these. I'm still getting used to them. I'd have to say that so far the only thing that bugs me is this: When you have the doors open, obviously you see the inside edges of the doors, where the hinges are. That part of the doors is stark white, which stands out like a sore thumb and defeats the purpose of trying to have uniformity and elegance. I'm going to get some paint and fix it but for what I spent on these things and the amount of time we've spent dealing with them, I shouldn't have to fool with it. It looks cheap the way it is. These things were FAR from cheap.
