Answer This Question

A:  Just make sure that what you are applying these tiles that the surface is leveled and clean so that it adheres well. You may need tile nippers, utility knife and a straight edge.

A:  Hi Rickey The weight is approx 1.7 pound per tile, but even if it sticks very well on a wall, we don't recommend that you use on a shower ceiling Thank you INOXIA TEAM

Q:Can I install these over top of a smooth, flat granite tile fireplace surround? Will I need extra adhesive?

A:  Hi Cwgal, Thank you for your interest in SpeedTiles. Speedtiles can be installed on any clean, smooth and leveled surface. You should not need to put extra adhesive on to do your project. If you wish to install SpeedTiles around your fireplace, be sure to leave an edge of at least 3 inches from the firebox opening. This edge should be in a non-conductive material. In the hopes we were able to help you. Wishing you a great SpeedTiles project and we look forward to seeing pictures of your project. The Inoxia Team

Good product but some install caveats to consider.
Definitely watch the videos and make sure you use soapy water during install. It can be challenging to get the gaps to near zero when fitting subsequent tiles, but levering them in on an angle and starting at the bottom of the tile helps. You may get some small splintering..and the edges are sharp! If you do get some gaps, don't despair. White sanded grout worked great to fill gaps, using a grout float and some patience. Taping off the edges and grouting them with a final finger smooth made for a very nice install. I also picked up some tile sealer to ensure the back splash does not stain.

            Looks pretty good
Watch the youtube videos and go for it! Before removing tile backing we also checked first that the new tile being fit in aligned correctly. Highly recommend using the suggestion to coat back of tiles with water and dish soap to improve mobility to gain a couple extra seconds when attaching to the wall. After backing was removed Husband right angled the new tiles to be applied to the tile on the wall for correct interlocking placement. Once the puzzle part of the tiles was aligned correctly then he gently laid the rest of the tile against the wall a little at a time until the entire tile was down. The tile is fragile and there were many broken edges that could not be scene until the tile was unwrapped. But we found that when we had to use the cracked ones as long as they were snugged up to the next tile, the cracks didn't show. The overall appearance of the tile is very varied so flaws hid easily.

A great weekend project! Install goes pretty fast once you start sticking them! Definitely recommend a sharp blade on a wet tile saw and the diamond coated blade for a dremel to make any small/ precise cuts. Overall quality of the product is 9 outta 10. The draw back is some of the small tiles come "cracked" already. I noticed on some of mine that the cracked pieces appeared to have been glued back together (I assume at the factory since the plastic was sealed). When cutting to fit around outlets or trim in, sometimes the small pieces will want to chip (so make sure you're using a sharp blade). Overall at $15 a sheet, it wont be cheap -- but if you factor in paying a professional to come tile/grout backsplash, in our case, the cost was about the same (but we wanted to DIY and avoid a contractor in the house). Last piece of advise - buy more than you think you will need. Some sheets have imperfections and it'll be up to you if you want to use them or put them to the side for a return/exchange. We had 32SQ FT of wall to cover, but ended up using 46 sheets of this material - the reason being is to keep a pattern / seam that you cant see on the wall. Sometimes that renders half of a sheet useless - so buy PLENTY the first go around. Plus HomeDepot is great about returns if you haven't opened them!

                Worth the effort
I tiled over 48 sq ft and love the results. I also used a sanded grout, did not like the cracks I could see. It is time consuming, patience required.

                  Quick and NO mess.
Speed Tiles were quick and easy, no mess at all. Used the dremmel to make any cuts, I wish I had a bigger cutter wheel but still did the trick very smooth lines. Tile nippers were horrible, made one snip and that was a NO. I think next time I will use more soap and water on the connecting pieces so they slide into place better, was a bit too sticky, and 1 or 2 spots are not 100% flush where they join. Overall speed tiles are a great alternative to the standard motor and grout tiles, I am very satisfied.

Buyer beware! The tiles themselves are great. Just beware how you buy them. Learn from my loss, I bought them by the case, by the end of the project had 5 individual tiles left over. So about $75 I can get back on my project cost, right? Wrong! I tried to take them back to Home Depot and they said because I bought them by the case and did not have a full case to return I was stuck with them. So, if you want to be able to return the left over materials from your project buy them individually. That way you are not stuck with a $75 paper weight like I am.
