IS THIS TINTABLE TO A BROWN COLOR

IS THIS TINTABLE TO A BROWN COLOR
Asked by: MIKEE
Yes, this paint is tintable. But can it be tinted to a brown? Depends on who's doing the tinting. Swimming pool paint is not in the computer tinting systems at your local Home Depot. It'll be a bit of trial and error, and considering that it's a light blue, the best you will probably get is a medium brown.

can you use this on galvanized metal?

Asked by: bbailey91
No. I made the mistake of believing the first persons response. I'm a professional contractor and took the proper steps to prepare the galvanized metal surface. The paint stuck great above the water line but quickly blistered on the submerged part of a saltwater system.

Customer Reviews

RP 1 gal. Satin Ocean Blue Swimming Pool Paint is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from pool paint This is the second time in three years that we have used this product. Both times the paint has peeled from the surface. We thought we would give it another chance. The paint started peeling one week after the pool was filled, and that was after letting it dry for a week. I would not recommend this product. Of course with having a cement pool, we are very limited in the products we can use.

Some other reviews I read told horror stories of paint leaking in the box, that was not the case here. In the end, I ordered a little too much, I simply returned the unused gallon (1 of 8) to Home Depot, and received a no hassle refund. Pool looks and feels great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This paint is wonderful and looks great We purchased a house last year with an in ground concrete pool which had been neglected and had holes and surface cracks in it. I puchased this paint online and used 5 gallons with only one thick coat. The color was beautiful and went on great. I only was able to apply a thin coat on the shallow end. At mid summer, the paint was coming off the spots that were already damaged from neglect. We have drained the pool again this yr and are in the process of re-painting it again...only because we were unable to apply a second coat on shallow end and the rain set in shortly after painting and didn't have enough time to season well. If you have doubts about using this paint....don't...it works great. Yes, it is thick, but it has held up well in the deep end of the pool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Ponds I used this product to "line" a concrete pond. It dries quickly, even in Seattle where it rains constantly. Buy more than product spec indicates--I got about half the coverage. Two coats is a "must" and second coat certainly requires less product. Wear a ventilator. This product took seemingly forever to arrive, so order well in advance. I put fish back in pond 3 days after second coat, and everything is still alive. I let first coat cure for 7 days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A beautiful start to summer I decided to try this paint based on the reviews, boy I'm glad I did. This paint went down easy, cleaned up easy and had very good coverage and adhesion. We have an indoor pool so the fumes were pretty bad even with all the skylights and doors open, I haven't filled the pool yet so this review is based on the coverage and ease of use, not the durability. I will update in a few months. I applied two coats, I used 5 gallons. I masked off the tiles on the stairs and landings, in the pics the tape is still on. The key to a great paint job is prep, prep and more prep. This product is thick and separates it needs to mixed very well. Mixing by hand with a mixing stick wont cut it, I would recommend a drill mixer attachment tool, just a few bucks but a key factor on how well it gets mixed. Also mix it as you go, I mixed about every 15/20 min as I was rolling it out. Clean the surface thoroughly, let it dry. Mask off, cut in first then roll out the sweetness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product This was half the cost of other pool paints and did not require a primer. So, the effective cost of this compared to some was one fourth. We rolled it on, and it worked great. Looks great. The fifth can we opened was a little lighter color than the others, so, take that instruction to "open all cans at once and mix them" seriously. Stirring up the cans right out of the box was next to impossible, so, I took the cans to a local lumber yard and they shook them for me. So far this has been a pretty good experience. Clean up requires a pretty hot thinner. I used Xylol and it worked really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product It's been about 4 mos. since we used this product on our pool and everything is holding up great so far! Our pool is about 18 X 35 and we used around 5 cans of paint to completely cover the pool 2x. When I went to the pool store to pick up supplies to clean it the girl behind the counter told me to use TSP but by the time I got to Home Depot I forgot what she suggested so I thought "something with three letters.. Oh, CRL that must be it." Needless to say that's what we used. My husband made sure to power wash ALL of the CRL off before he applied the paint and we waited a little less than a week to let it dry. Our pool was very rough all over and had some rust spots as well. We patched them and painted. Everything still looks great! No bubbles, peeling, etc. I will say the very top step where the chlorine dispenser floats close to the surface has bleached out. I'm so happy with the way the rest of the pool looks it doesn't bother me one bit!
