Product Overview

72 inch x 25.5 inch x 1 inch Acacia Rustic Kitchen Countertop. Acacia is species of wood that is found in Vietnam and Australia. Our countertops are Forestry Stewardship Council certified (FSC) which means the wood is harvested from sustainable, renewal plantations. It is naturally water resistant and is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. It is important to note that acacia should be conditioned with wood oils that are food safe for wood preparation areas. For the first month the conditioning oil should be applied weekly so that any water left standing on the surface just bubbles up. Once that has been achieved then it's just a matter of re-applying the conditioning oil annually to maintain the wood surface for a lifetime of use. The 72" x 25.5" x 1" size is standard counter depth so it fits standard kitchen cabinets. Acacia can be cut, drilled and routed easily with standard wood working tools so that it is possible to fit them to any countertop configuration.
  • 72 inch x 25.5 inch x 1 inch Solid Acacia Hardwood Panels are Easy to Install with Standard Wood-Working Tools

  • Final top-coat natural wood oil sealant required before final installation

What is the difference in a island or standard finish?

Asked by mini26 November 29, 2020

Answer

Hi Mini26. Thank you for the question. I am not sure what exactly you are asking me. Our standard finish is with hardwax oil in clear or with a colour added. An island is in the center of the room and all edges are exposed to be seen. Our countertops are used as a standard countertop but also as an island countertop. We have great videos on installation and maintenance at www.woodkitchencontertops.com. Linda McKinley Interbuild Customer Service 506-688-3478.

Answer

Please see our installation and care instructions at https://woodkitchencountertops.com/installation. You can sand lightly, but this can remove some of the color if you go too deeply. To mitigate this, use Interbuild Hardwax Oils (Available on HomeDepot.com) in the color of the original top to ensure the color remains. Follow the finishing instructions. 180 Grit finish sandpaper should work well.

This type of wood is supposed to be very durable, but with regular use as a desk I would seal it. Better safe than sorry.

Does it matter which side goes up? Is there a top and a bottom?

Asked by John October 21, 2020

Answers

One side is much smoother than the other, and the rougher side also had quite a bit of smearing/blotchiness with the stain. Doesn't look like it was conditioned before the color was applied.

Does this need to be sanded before installation?

Asked by John October 21, 2020

Answer

Hi John. I think you will find that each piece will be different. We are hearing from some they had to sand and from others they did not. Linda McKinley Interbuild Customer Service 506-688-3478.

Any issues cutting it to size and cutting holes for sink?

Asked by Brittrose October 9, 2020

Answer

Hi Brittrose. You will not have any problems cutting it down to size or fitting it for a sink. Please be aware you must seal all edges and that includes the ones cut for the sink. We have great videos for installation and maintenance at www.woodkitchencountertops.com. Linda McKinley Interbuild Customer Service 506-688-3478.

is this a flat slab of wood or is there a 90* angle of wood, like a backsplash, along one edge of the slab?

can you join two pieces into an L shaped counter? are the edges eased?

Putting 2 together in an L will be just fine. No easing on the edges. I'm doing that myself and decided to cut a 45 into each piece there they meet.

Poorly put together. There were several joins of the smaller pieces that had noticeable gaps so the surface was not flat and smooth. The stain work left quite a bit to be desired as well. The color was also much lighter than pictured and some areas were very blotchy. This would have benefited from a wood conditioner before staining. Would not buy again.

Hi Unhappy. Thank you for the review. We take every review seriously. The thing about wood is there will always be imperfections. A light sanding can fix most of these imperfections. Acacia wood is a natural combination of blended colour. We have put one coat of colour only on our product which is why we state that it still needs to be sealed. Working with the blotchy colour means adding more of the hard wax oil with the colour in it while you are sealing the product. I am sorry that this was not a good experience for you. Installed this product as the counter top for our basement dry bar. Easy to cut to fit and finish with Butcher Block Oil. Used 5 coats and sanded between coats with 300 grit sanding block. Beautiful piece of wood. Took off one star for minor damage to the surface from inadequate packaging.

Cheap Price = Cheap Product
This butcher block is nice, though I would spend more money for a quality product. I oiled the product according to manufacturer's directions. After 3rd application, the product begin cracking. Manufacture would not honor the 1 year warranty.

I ordered 2 of these..They were both easy to manipulate with some homeowner tools and installation went very smooth..Very happy with the results and finished look of the countertops..Very detailed instructions and information included with the item which is nice that I don't have to search the internet or visit a website to get this information.. I would suggest better packaging to protect the item..

Beautiful wood top at a reasonable price
This countertop works perfectly as a desktop in my office. I used this in conjunction with IKEA Alex drawers and it completed the look in my office. Comparing this to the IKEA countertops they have, it's clear that this is the winner since it can be cut, the corners can be routed, and the surface can be stained. IKEA uses veneer which is stuck at the size you purchased. I have had this desk setup for almost a month now and it has transformed this entire room. There is one blemish on a side where the wood fibers have split from the edge, but I put it on the bottom backside and will forget it even exists. A final note: If you can read the title you'll see that the surface is 6' long by 2' 1.5" deep by 1" tall. Sorry to the guy that seems to think the 1.5" was the height, but he wasn't paying close attention. It is very clearly 1 inch.

Nice but looks nothing like the picture
The color looks nothing like the picture. There was also a large notch missing in the side. Maybe where there was a knot in the wood. Not the best quality at all, not worth what I paid.

Nice looking countertop but inconsistent finish
The countertop met expectations except for the finish. The oil finish was applied heavily on one side but not the other. A clear line can be seen with the inconaistency The surface roughness was also much more rough in the middle of the countertop. I will go back through and sand/finish it
