Q:My outlet can be energized by a switch in my house. If I apply power after dusk, will the unit stay on for the preset time?

If you have it set from dusk until dawn it will stay on but if you have it set for a specific amount of time then it will turn off after that time.         Q:I?ve set my timer to be ON from dusk to dawn. When it?s dark out, the lights turn off for a few seconds every 15-20 minutes and turn back on again. This happens throughout the night. Is it just a defective piece that needs to be replaced?

        A:  It could be detecting the light from your device that just turned on. try isolating the timer so it is not near the light source

          A:  Regarding "when it is dark out, the lights turn off for a few seconds every 15-20 minutes and turn back on again", is a common occurrence affecting photo cells when they pick up a light source. In your situation, it is likely the same light source you're aiming to keep "On", from dusk to dawn, the light sensor is picking up, as "dawn". I see two choices you make: 1. set the timer to "8 hours" , or 2. change the positioning of your Intermatic 1000-Watt Outdoor Timer with Photocell Light Sensor, so that there is no direct light source to the front of it, where the sensor is located. Sometimes, this is also solved by putting a little "keep off, pesticide applied" sign, a few inches in front of the timer, to shade the timer from the light source causing the condition.Hope this helps.

            Short term solution
            This was a short term value solution for us that lasted almost 2 years. It worked well installed to control 30W worth of low voltage LED lighting on a pier, but the timer eventually began blowing a GFI breaker at the control panel. This is a decent timer, and easy to use, but I would not consider it a long term outdoor solution exposed to weather. The warranty on this product is 1 year.
