This Intermatic 1200-watt 7-day digital astronomic landscape timer is pretty well made of heavy plastic material. My existing landscape low-voltage transformer timer had stopped working, so I needed some type of timer to control the transformer so the lights would not stay on all day. This Intermatic timer is great. It can be set to turn on at dusk and off at dawn or at set on/off times on specific days. It has two grounded outlets, one on each side. I especially like the battery backup on the device so the timer does not lose the time or settings in the event of a power failure.

This Intermatic DT200LT Landscape Timer is perfect for the set it and forget it crowd who want lights on at dusk and off at dawn. While the on and off times can be overridden to the time of your choice, the default settings of this product are on at dusk and off at dawn. The product only supports a single on time and a single off time (Intermatic makes other products that look very similar to this one with the ability to program multiple events). Setup was very easy. Pull the tab to provide power from the LR44 batteries, set the current time and date, set the Daylight savings country (Off, US/Canada or Mexico), set your state and area of the state (West, South, etc.), set your time zone and finally input in 15 minute increments the offset from dusk and dawn you want. The batteries will provide power to the timer for three months of it not receiving power from the electrical grid. The timer has a dial on the front and four buttons (only three of which are used) to perform setting adjustments. On my unit, as I turn the dial I can feel clickable feedback which should be indicating I have moved to the next setting position. Unfortunately, the mechanism on my product seems to be flawed as I had trouble with the dial. It would skip two positions with each click in many cases and it was difficult to select the exact setting I wanted (for example if I was setting minutes and wanted 7 it would jump from 6 to 8 and I had to move the dial ever so slightly to get it to settle on the 7. The three buttons are Set, Program and On/Off. The On/Off button is used to manually turn the lights on or off. Once programmed it is simply a matter of plugging the timer into your landscape transformer and then putting the plug from the transformer into one of the two outlets on the timer. The product label indicates the product is for indoor residential use only. Intermatic makes another model (DT620K) which looks identical, has the same output/load ratings, supports multiple events and is almost half the cost of this model.

This is a very versatile timer. It has an easily read digital display. It has a nice compact feature to accommodate dual plugs. This is important to us because we use it to control lighting on our indoor garden. The only negative is that the instructions are difficult to understand and need to be a little more simple. Overall it is a really good timer.

This timer is intended for low voltage transformers up to 1200W however I found it worked just fine with LED lighting strips (I use outdoors). They call it a Digital Landscape timer. It has really has two programming modes one that based on dusks and dawn based on where you live. You set current date time + your time zone, your state and the section of your state (1/9's),you then indicate when you want the lights on/off based on dusk and dawn daily in you "home" location. You can also set you own custom on or off time. So you can easily set it to come on at Dusk (+/-60m) and off at Dawn (+/- 60m) or set it come on at Dusk and off an 1AM (my choice). It found it very accurate, I already have some smart home products programmed to come on at dusk, I added the timer and it was with in a few minutes of my smart home devices (always 2 min later for couple of days I paid attention). The timer although it called a landscape timer is rated for INDOOR USE ONLY. I'm in dry Arizona, with a 10' cover on my front entrance, I'e using it in a covered outdoor area. If using with low voltage lighting, I'm assuming Intermatic expects you (fairly large transformer to be inside. I also have a single solar panel that charges a 400W power pack that drives a bunch of 5V and 12V lighting. It occured to me I could also use this timer in the area (enclosed) where I have this power pack for dusk to dawn timing in my back yard, no "smart home" programming necessary. So I do wish this timer were fully waterproof, I quickly found multiple places I could use it. But be aware is not wet rated (-1 star). I do like the features this timer supports.

I use this 1200-Watt 7-Day Digital Astronomic Landscape Timer by Intermatic to control my outdoor landscape lighting and it is easy to use. To set the on/off time is a breeze. There are even backup batteries inside the timer in case there is a power outage. The automatic daylight saving feature is certainly a plus to avoid the hassle to change the timer. One minor issue was the timer can’t be plugged directly into my covered outdoor outlet. I end up getting a 6 ft outdoor extension cord then connect the timer to it. This is a good product.

Once battery is low which last up to 3 months the indicator light appears. Operates up to 1200 watts and has 3 prongs, 3" wide, tad over 3" tall and 1 1/2" depth 3 Seperate instruction sheets in different languages are included for simple set up. The large center Sector knob is easy grip ables you to set up date, time, state, time zone and dusk to dawn and automatically resets for day light saving months. Pay attention to the A.M and P.M current time and dusk to dawn My location is Florida and options are central, Pacific, North, North West and 5. Up to 1200 watt digital timer for outdoor landscaping or Christmas lighting. Great for use with low voltage transformers. You can program for on at dusk or program for a specific time to turn on. It can do the same for dawn. A great feature includes DST or daylight savings time setting. Complete with a battery backup and on or off indicator light. The unit has a one year warranty. Black plastic housing with a digital display.

This timer is suitable for its designed purpose, but has some limitations. The designed purpose is for outdoor lighting from dusk to dawn with the timer in a location sheltered from weather. It's smaller than I expected, at about 3" square. When installed in the upper receptacle of a duplex outlet, the lower receptacle is still accessible. It won't plug into an outdoor outlet that has hinged covers unless used with an extension cord or power strip. It's not weatherproof and requires an additional NEMA 3R enclosure to be used when exposed to weather. There are only 4 programming options: 1. on at dusk (plus or minus a fixed offset of 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes) 2. on at a specific time 3. off at dawn (plus or minus a fixed offset of 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes) 4. off at a specific time. The default program is on at dusk and off at dawn. Either or both of these can be replaced with fixed times, but then I couldn't set it back to dawn/dusk. In order to modify any of these settings, including the offset, a factory reset must be performed and the timer set up again from scratch. Missing programming functions include a staying on for a set number of hours after dusk, day-of-week programming, and ability to be on from dawn to dusk (for a water feature, for example). On the plus side, it has battery backup to preserve the settings for 3 months when it's not plugged in. It has good granularity for setting the location - my state of Washington had nine choices of locations within the state, plus it has fixed offsets to fine-tune the dusk time. I was curious to see when the timer thought "Dusk" was when there was no offset. Today at my location sunset (and the start of civil twilight) was 8:17 pm. The timer triggered on at 8:21 pm.

This timer is great. The older timers were hard to set because you had to click the numbers down and you couldn’t tell if it was right. Having a digital timer is nice. It shows the time and it shows it in a nice size. Also the timer is easy to set. The timer is sturdy. We use timers all the time and and they don’t seem to last because they aren’t made that well. This timer is well made and easy to use.

I have a lot of respect for Intermatic light timers. I have one in service controlling my pouch lights that is almost 20 years old; with no problems. Having said that I expected more from this landscape timer. It would not plug directly into my standard issue, 110 volt outdoor outlets with standard issue painted aluminum hinged covers (see photo). This necessitated me needing to use a power strip or extension cord. Had I known that I would have never ordered this specific timer. It is a basic design problem that many people will encounter. Like most I'm a fan of the "astronomic" feature that uses location to calculate dusk and dawn as it changes throughout the year. I also like the 1200 watt capacity of this timer, even though most landscape lights are changing over to LED. I also tried performing a factory reset on my timer and it did not reset. Luckily you can easily change the programming by following the directions supplied.
