Is there a 3 x 12 or 4 x 12 white subway tile that will match the Vintage Florid Lantern White?

Asked by Gloria April 15, 2020

No, they do not make a “matching” subway tile. There is a matching one in the same shape but solid, without the pattern on it. They also don’t make “matching” trim/edge pieces. I used Schluter trim to finish my edges.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. We're sorry, but there are currently none in transit from the manufacture. This means that we do not have an expected time of when they will be back in stock. You may enter your email on our website to be notified of changes in stock if you are interested. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

Does this tile need a sealer? If so, what kind?

Asked by Ritz18 December 17, 2018

The grout used will need to be sealed for sure. The tile has a glaze and is somewhat shiny and not porous enough to allow the sealer to penetrate. So it ends up wiping off. I just used a spray on sealer I got from Home Depot. It will be by the grout.

What do I need to install this?

Look through the Reviews. I just submitted a long explanation to help with the installation Its under the name "Roop"

I'm interested in finding out which grout was used in the Home Depot pictures.

This was a white non-sanded grout.

These tiles are gorgeous, I believe they will stand the test of time. Everyone loves them who sees our remodel. We started with a full tile at the top of the countertop and barely had any waste. We laid them ourselves because the tile man was to expensive. Glad we did!

They look absolutely beautiful but not easy to install. I put up roughly 150 of the lantern tiles with half of them being these Florid tiles. I did not break one tile surprisingly, they looked more fragile then they are. A couple hints on install: Use a 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 Trowel, I did not back butter them but I did do a scratch coat, For spacers you might want to try the long fingered ones, I used the regular spacers and given the radius on the tiles I had problems with some falling out, I tried putting them in flat in places but the crappy spacers weren't all the same thickness. The 4 fingers were 1/8" but lying flat they weren't all 1/8". Oh, use a LOT of spacers. I had at least 6 around each tile. I did NOT use the "Leave In" spacers. I used both a cheapy flatbed saw and a Ridgid with a sliding table. Both were fine and each had an advantage. The flatbed didn't need much cleanup in the corners, the sliding one was easier to adjust but it left a good bit to clean up in the corners. I used a 1" belt sander to clean them up. I made a jig for the flatbed so I could align the flat part on the tile were straight. I suggest you use the sliding table and have a couple small blocks that are the same thickness I have not grouted yet but I am going to use unsanded grout and a Grout Gun ( Rubi 22 in. Joint Applicator Model# 65990) . I am thinking that grouting the normal way with just plastering it with grout then removing with a float will leave a lot in those Florid tiles making it a pain to cleanup. With the gun I am hoping I can keep the grout around the edges. We'll see. If I run into any major problems I'll try to update this. The countertop was flat so the tiles were easy to keep straight across. To keep the vertical lines straight I eyeballed using a square and also had lines drawn on the wall. I did this with each vertical row. I used those horseshoe shaped spacers for the bottom, they are much bigger and easier to move around.... plus I got them free from my brother-in-Law :) I also precut as many I could beforehand, mainly because I am not very experienced Around outlets was a bit of a pain for me. These aren't square tiles so just using a ruler was out, at least for me. I put the tiles in up to the outlets. Waited til the next day then held the tiles up with tape and spacers to layout my cut lines. Sadly, they do not have an edging for these. I couldn't find bullnose that matched the way I wanted. I forget the name of the one I used but I'll add a pic. The Florid and Plain tiles are slightly different thicknesses but don't worry about it. Really, they look and feel great together. Behind the Fridge I did not use a border, I thought it'd look better free floating. I'll add pics so you can judge for yourself The tiles cut easily and I didn't break any but I was pretty careful and didn't cut them fast. I did have a few chip out at the end of the cut but once I trued up the cutting wheel it pretty stopped. Try using tape or precut the end of the cut first if you have a problem. Also go slow and make sure the tile is supported I would say these have at least a moderate difficulty level just due to the shape. It took me probably 2 weeks but thats mainly due to inexperience and me being extremely picky and careful. I am not an Tile Installer. I have done my own home improvements for decades but I think this is my 3rd tile install in 35 years. Definitely the most complex. Looking forward to finishing the grout, sealing and onto the next project :)

This tile is breathtaking!!! I waited over two years to finally have it installed. The result has exceeded my expectations. Thank you Home Depot for carrying this beauty. I alternated the floral tile and the plain tile as to prevent it from appearing too busy. I love the quality of this tile. It is elegant and sophisticated at an affordable price. Make sure you have someone that has experience installing tile so that it is installed properly. The corner of the kitchen, in particular, took time to figure out and do just right. The result is spectacular!! See for yourself in the attached photos.
