Questions & Answers

Would it look homogeneous with fescue grass lawn?

My lawn is fescue grass. I see this product has a mix of rye and fescue. What if the rye seeds of this mix grow? Would it blend well and look homogeneous with the fescue grass I have? I just don't want to end up with multiple different patches across my lawn. My other question - would it hurt to put this mix in areas with brown grass? Thanks much. Eliyah
Asked by: Eliyah
Hi Eliyah, I'm Travis rom The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. The idea behind grass seed mixtures is to increase the odds for successfully growing grass. By combining different seeds that grow in a variety of conditions, you will have better success with a blend than you would with one type of seed. Ryegrass germinates and grows faster than fescue. This provides quicker results, especially in cooler weather. The fescue will germinate a week or two after the rye does, and the fescue will tolerate summer heat better than rye. Fescue is also tougher and will tolerate foot traffic better than rye. An expert eye will recognize the difference between rye and fescue, but both are tall growing, non-spreading grasses that can coexist in the same areas of your lawn. This grass mixture is intended to repair patches in your lawn, so plant it in the bare patches and dead spots in your lawn. For best results, rake out the dead grass and scratch the soil surface to prepare it for overseeding. Thank you for asking, -Travis
