Questions & Answers

How much can be taken off the height?

I know that typically hollow doors only have so much solid surface that allows for cutting. We intend to use these for a closet that has a height of 76". Assuming we'll need at least a 1" clearance for hardware and floor, we'll need to cut a minimum of 5" off.

Don't forget to figure in the door trim. Typical 356 door trim is 2 1/4 " and your reveal should be between 1/8" to 1/4". Cutting an additional 2 1/2" should be plenty. I always put painters tape on the door and draw a cut line on the tape before cutting. This prevents splintering. Good luck.

This is a laminated hollow door. I believe the top coat is birch. It is fine if you need an inexspensice door slab. I bought two to hang in barn door sliding hardware. Worked great but they are not high end product.

Yes it can. I hung two of them. Just remember that it is hollow except for about 2 inch around the outside edges, side and ends. Be careful tightening the cross bolts in the hollow area. Just snug. The door is light so the one bolt you put thru the edge can hold all the weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Hollow Replacement Door For The Money First, be careful selecting the doors off the racks- each door is unique. Several had nicks in the door facing at the store I purchased them at. The door is very lightweight. Also, keep in mind that the long side that has the Jeld-Wen label on it is the side that has the extra particle board at the middle of the door. This is important if you need extra support for adding the door handle with lock. The other side of the door is completely hollowed with no additional support. I purchased two of these and needed to custom size the door down to a 64" x 25" small closet door. It was very easy to do and the wood finish held up well to the saw without any ripping. The majority of the door facing is masonite board with a thin wood veneer glued on and not a solid veneer sheet. The door stained and polyurethaned very nice and dried quickly. This is a bargain priced door and looks excellent when finished.

This was the main reason I bought it. When I started trimming it, it happened to be a hollow door with 1'' wooden frame. The main panels are not even hardwood, they are cartoon. The enforcement is from cartoon as well. Sure enough, the staff in store said that they don't trim doors...

Unquestionably the cheapest and worst constructed hollow core door I've worked with. I purchased two doors and found the face veneer to be not only unstainable birch, but the veneer is so thin that even sanding with 120 grit paper will go through the surface into the masonite substrate quite easily. After the surface was wet with gel stain, circular bumps the size of pennies and quarters appeared on the surface - dozens of them. Missing glue areas? Jeldwin tells me these doors are imported - they obviously have no quality control over their overseas vendor, and worse - this furthers the notion that Home Depot is more than willing to sell cheap, second-rate merchandise to meet a lower price point. I'll be going to a lumber yard for my doors from now on.
