Can i trim doors to 72 inches

Asked by: Chuck
Yes and no. I cut down one of these doors to make a "baby gate" at the top of our stairs; basically a bi-fold dutch door. after cutting the top off of the door, I ripped a 2x4 to slide into the top of the door to give me plenty of material to mount latch hardware too. Because I used standard hinges on the edge instead of the regular pivots, I also ripped a 2x2 for each side to beef up the structure of the door so kiddo didn't break it down. Because I don't believe in overkill, I also filled the door with a structural foam. Wood strips are glued inside the door, as well as finish nailed, re-primed, and painted so it gave the appearance that I actually knew what I was doing. I've had a few people ask where we got such a nice child gate. Keep in mind, if you are concerned about the warranty, trimming the door will void it. If taking a lot off of the door, I would take more off the bottom than the top to make the distance from the top insert panel to the edge more similar to that of the bottom insert to the edge, but that is just my style preference.

Can this be installed on tile floors?

I plan to install this over tile floors, does this need to be fastened or screwed to the floor? Or just the door frame?
Asked by: ktd
I was inquiring about the question of how to fasten the bottom of the door to a tile floor.

The 6 panel face of the doors came partially separated from the frame. I had to use a hot glue gun to reattach. The adjustable lower hardware that came with this larger door was too lightweight, and easily bent when extended to fit in the lower track. I had to drill an oversize hole and use the hardware from the doors that I was replacing because it was much sturdier.. Finally, lots of small defects and nicks that had to be sanded, filled and resanded. Way too much rework required for the expensive price they charge for this door. Our remodel was all 6 panel textured doors so we had no choice but to use the Jeld Wen but I would certainly consider and alternate supplier. Not a quality door for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from no brace for the knob The door is decent enough. (Let's face it, they are their cheapest alternative.) I do like 6 panels better than slats, though. Quality sticklers may want to opt to order the solid versions. My only real complaint is even though they are hollow core, I expected there to be a solid strip in the center to attach the knob through...there isn't! So, you can't get your knobs to keep from spinning, unless you start crushing the center of the door. Also, because the knob area is hollow, I added fender washers under the knob's screw heads, to feel secure that the knobs wouldn't pull through the door over time.

I needed each side of the bi-fold to be 48 inches (so, two-24 inch doors on each side), but the total width was 48 (so, two 12-inch doors on each side). The description was unclear to me so be sure to read carefully. I waited over 8 weeks for delivery, only to have them be the wrong size.

It will not fit an 80 inch finish opening as claimed unless it is cut down a full 1/2 inch. Although the door can be cut down 1/2 inch according to Jeld-wen this will weaken the door. I didn't install the door but it looked decent for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unbeatable price, free & fast shipping Product provides excellent value for the money. The only complaint I have is that dimensions are not made PRECISELY clear in product description. Door length itself is ACTUALLY 79 inches and becomes 80 and ONE HALF inches (NOT 80 inches, as described) once all hardware is installed. This is a crucial thing to know and IS made very clear on the packaging once the product is in hand. Be aware that there is a 77 inch option available (for a TOTAL of 78.5 inches) if you need slightly shorter doors - although I saw no evidence of that on the Home Depot web site.

One of the door pairs doesn't close as far as the other, but compared to the two sets of warped louvered doors from a competing store and brand they are pretty good.
