can this pipe be bent for a greenhouse hoop

Asked by ridlbox September 7, 2020

Answer

It's possible, but you may want to find pipe that has UV in it. The PVC will break down over time with the UV rays. Also if you are using plastic sheeting for the greenhouse, make sure that has UV in it as well or it will all tear apart.

can I use this product for underground wire?

Asked by JM September 5, 2020

Answers

Yes, however they make a gray PVC conduit that is better for electrical. The blows are more curved which makes pulling wire easier. I use 1" or larger for pulling wire in case I need to pull more later. Depending on the use, I would still use outdoor Romex. Be sure to get the right adhesive. There are different types of PVC and ABS glues.

This 3/4 inch pipe worked great for replacing the metal frame that came with my grow tent, it, is easier to disassemble, and reassemble, without any sharp metal edges to cut the tent, I also made a light rack that holds a 4 foot 3 tube T-5 fluorescent grow light, it is 6 foot tall, and has a 32 inch base at each end, works great.

Junk. Low quality, thin-walled garbage.
This JM Eagle stuff is junk. I don't know when exactly HD switched out the other brand, but this stuff is garbage. Have a look at the photo and compare to the stuff they used to sell. I thought that perhaps this pipe might carry more GPM since there's more room to carry water, but the fittings HD sells are designed for thicker pipes, so it's restricted to that. Considering the amount of work it takes to put these in the ground, it's a very idea to trust these pipes. They're thin, brittle and can be flexed by using just two fingers. Bad product. HD, are you listening? Like I said, the photo says it all.

Undersized pipe - do not buy
As a Pro member I am very disappointed - in both HD and JM Eagle. Due to the virus and being high-risk I ordered 4 sticks of the Charlotte 3/4 sch 40 pipe for curbside pickup. Yes I know this review is for the Eagle 3/4 sch 40 pipe - bear with me..... When I got home I noticed HD had given me the JM Eagle product instead of the Charlotte product - I live an hour from the store so I started the job using it as it said 3/4 sch 40 and is the same price - and pipe is pipe right? The job is connecting the new pipe to an existing 3/4 sch 40 water line that is 2' underneath a concrete slab - basically I am chest-deep in a hole under a slab. I cleaned, primed and glued the joints as I have done for years - then as I slipped them together I realized something did not feel right - the new pipe joint was super loose in the coupler. I backed out of the hole to evaluate this, and found that the JW Eagle pipe, while clearly marked as sch 40, was slightly smaller in outer diameter. I did a test with an offcut piece of JW Eagle pipe and could pull apart joints up to 5 minutes after they were glued together. I tried the remaining 3 sticks of JM Eagle, and found that only one stick was the proper diameter to provide a press slip fit in a coupler - the rest were super loose. So I had to redo the job - digging deeper into the hole, cutting out the faulty JW Eagle pipe, etc - what a way to spend an evening. I initially put this manufacturer/retailer error down to covid - perhaps JM Eagle were short staffed during manufacturing, and we know HD's staff are super busy - so just picked any sch 40 3/4 pipe, etc. But then a bit of research found that this is not a new issue for JW Eagle at HD - someone else mentioned this in a Home Depot 1 star review in Sept 2018. So JW Eagle - shame on you for not fixing the problem in 2 years. Shame on HD - for not pulling this vendor until they fix their quality control issue. And buyer beware - I plan to stay away from this product in future - and double-check my orders before departing.
